Clearing up some confusion: Though this plant is commonly called "Mimosa tree" it is not a true Mimosa which has very different compounds... 😅 This tree is in the genus Albizia. Many articles and videos talk about using this tree as a "mood booster" but they fail to mention the potential adverse reaction that some people experience. I made this video to talk about that so more people will be cautious their first time trying. I'm working on an article which will talk about the traditional uses in more detail soon! The related video goes into much more depth on the subject and the extensive testing that I did to arrive at my conclusions.

@@FeralForaging Oh, thank God you cleared that up. Would you consider doing a video about the benefits of powdering and ingesting castor bean? There’s a number of your viewers who I know would just love a dab in their new mimosa brew. 🍵👌 Toxicity doesn’t matter. Apparently they just want to “try new things”. 🤷‍♂️ @tarajoyce3598 ⚰️

If you can identify the cause of this reaction and tie it into a medical issue, it might become a diagnostic question. For example, anesthesiologist now ask about natural hair color because redheads might require more sedation. This reaction might inform a medical practitioner that there might be something else of note. Or it might be just a curiosity with no practical application.

Can taste very nasty, as described. In western culture, it has been described as leading to more 'manic' phases in bipolar/manic-depressive people. My favourite recipe for mimosa (hostilis) is: grind up the inner root bark and basify in sodium hydroxide solution, pulling out the non-polar alkaloids into solution, then mix naphtha to pull the alkaloids into an aqueous phase on top which can be pipetted off into a glass tray and straight into the freezer to precipitate said alkaloids - n,n-dimethyltryptamine & n-methyltryptamine.

the wood grain is very beautiful in mimosa i discovered. it's also dark brown in the core and white on the outside. quite hard and durable. I've made nice things from but it does have an irritating oil in it. when I saw it, any microfine dust that gets into my nose doesn't irritate my sinuses per se, but it is very good at clearing the sinuses. it opens my head right up. it's why you don't burn certain types of wood because there are toxins in the material. like you never burn laurel tree wood. that has irritating oils in it too. you don't cook over it either of course.

It is incredibly messy; it produces thousands of seed pods, each of which has 7 - 8 seeds which disperse on the wind and proliferates like weeds. I have never heard of these trees being illegal, nor any preparations for them being so. All Southern meemaws would be imprisoned because this is one of their favorite trees. I just smell the flowers and enjoy the brutal, top speed hummingbird battles over the nectar.

Around here, those are called “trash trees” if they are growing anywhere around your house, they get removed as soon as they sprout. Yes they are very pretty when they bloom but they are so messy…
@alanunruh7310
@alanunruh7310 Ай бұрын
Nah they just require alot more maintenance than most Americans are used to is all. But if your into bonsai and check your trees daily or every other they are actually AMAZING trees. Especially do do large earthgrown bonsai!!!!! No it's not traditional but I have two right now in my back yard that are both just under 15ft tall. Both of which have me in them everyday trimming to shape and keep them at that height. They put on massive amounts of blooms since they are big trees but have only its main branches to focus growth on instead of the dozens they will usually do. So the growth focus much more on the blooms than it does new sprouts all over.
@Avarrocka
@Avarrocka Ай бұрын
@@alanunruh7310they don't "require maintenance" at all because they're invasive and shouldn't be allowed to spread.

This tree became a nightmare in my yard. It's so invasive. it's crazy. It grew and stuck into the foundation of my house, even though the tree was so far away. It has long invasive roots. It's always trying to come back even at a tiny root left behind by pulling. Nightmare, I say❗️❗️❗️

I would imagine that for someone who's going through a lot, going through too much, and is feeling down in the dumps, that unpleasant acrid sensation from the Mimosa bark tea may be considered by that person a small price to pay if it can provide some much needed relief for at least some of the more unbearable anxiety, depression or other emotional distress that he or she is suffering from.
