Being a Grandpa myself, I love that fact that you are using and appreciating his tools passed down to you. I'm sure it would make him happy that you are carrying on the woodworking tradition. Teach safety first.

Really like your flip table. Nice touch staining the 2 X 4’s, looks great! Nice one car garage shop. Well thought out. My only suggestion would be to add LED light strips in there. They don’t cost a lot. Eazy to hang and the light is awesome. I used the daylight color and has made a huge difference in my 3 car garage shop. Best wishes young man 🤙🏻🤙🏻

I have since upgraded the shop with super bright daylight led bulbs and it does make a huge difference. It’s much brighter, colors are better white balanced too. I think before it was too warm and colors were off.

Hi, William! At the beginning of the video, I said to my wife how nice it is that many of the North Americans normally learn about woodworking very early (correct me if I am wrong about it). Then, you showed pictures of you learning with your family and also a cabinet made by your bother in the high school. I'm from Brazil and I've been learning woodworking by myself for a year. I'm doing something crazy that is setting up a shop in an apartment bedroom at the 13th floor. It has been funny but very tough, because they're a lot to concern about (especially about not disturbing the neighbors and dealing with the tiny space). So I'm looking for ways to make it possible and this kind of videos and knowledge sharing helps a lot! Thank you for the video!

Thank you for the video. Here’s a tip for the DIY woodworkers just beginning this fulfilling hobby: Resit the temptation to buy a/every tool you THINK you MIGHT need IN CASE you have to do whatever. You don’t need that far-flung jig or tool designed, for example, to hold a screw in place. If I knew then what I know now I’d own 50%-75% less of the tools I own currently that have little to no use. There I said it. I feel better.

You're welcome! I agree with you, there's no need to buy every tool until you need it. Another thing I would add is don't buy an expensive tool for one singular purpose. I have a few tools that I have purchased to complete a single task on one project and then haven't used the tool since. Think about work arounds with the tools and machines on hand, home made woodworking jigs are your friend in those cases!

I am so glad to have found your channel. The shop tour was an eye opener; I especially appreciate the miter saw build and the table saw unit. I have a picture of my grandfather in my one car garage shop too. He didn't pass on any skills but my love of wood and woodworking started with watching him work, sawdust on glasses and cigarette butt behind the ear. His grandchildren have special pieces he build just for us from lumber sourced from where he lived.

That is a nice setup. And great to see that you never let the size of your shop stop you from building what you want. That fence on your bandsaw was very interesting. I know a lot of those smaller units don't have fences. would be interested in a video on your bandsaw fence!
@_Shopfix
@_Shopfix Жыл бұрын
Sometimes you just have to make do with what you have and design the space as efficiently as possible so the small size doesn't become an inconvenience! The bandsaw fence is an aftermarket accessory that didn't come with the Delta bandsaw. You can purchase similar aftermarket bandsaw fences from a variety of companies. However, I don't recommend the bandsaw fence as much as others may. A bandsaw fence is incredibly difficult to use because of bandsaw blade drift. Unlike other machines where the blade is fixed such as a table saw, the band saw blade moves quite considerably. When you rip with a bandsaw fence more often than not the blade will drift and the board will start to create its own path off of the fence or the blade will end up not parallel to the fence. If you setup your bandsaw fence to accommodate the blade drift (setting it at the angle of the drift) then it works better. However, I prefer to freehand everything on a drawn line.

Good video! I have the same oscillating spindle sander, but I bought it used as an add-on in a used bandsaw purchase and I did not spend much time checking it out before the purchase. Since I've had it, I cannot figure out how to change the spindle drum. I'm not sure if I'm totally overlooking something or if the machine I bought is broken or otherwise missing a spindle lock. Would you mind elaborating on how you change the size of sanding drum on your sander? Thanks!

Great setup! I'm going to incorporate a lot of these ideas into my workshop. Quick question for you: Do you have a video on how you made the flip-top table? I've seen a few others, but I love your dowel-rod idea the most. I'd love to see a walkthrough!
@_Shopfix
@_Shopfix Жыл бұрын
Thanks! On the flip top table I simply got a 3/4ths threaded pipe and mounted that into 2x4s on either side but only after adding 3 boards onto the pipe to build out the box that flips. Then I added the top and bottom piece of the box after mounting the pipe and 2x4s onto the legs. Then you’ll want to drill your holes for the dowel rods that keep it into place and you’re ready to go.

🙌🏼 I enjoyed this video. 3 ideas I will most likely adopt is the larger box dust collection on miter station, the 2x4, 45° construction lumber rack, and the flip top jointer/planer table is an excellent and very practical idea. Love that. I wanted to know if you were happy with your Rikon jointer… is it the helical head 6” and how do you feel about it’s fence? I’ve been looking at the 8” Wen and a 6” Grizzly with spiral heads. Both with cons (or bad reviews) about their aluminum fences, but Rikon makes a 6” helical head for a little bit more $. Amazon has 2 left in stock without the ability to read the 4.5 star 167 reviews.

Glad you enjoyed it! 👍 The miter box is a huge plus especially with how much I utilize the miter saw in my shop. Practically every project passes through the miter saw at some point. Flip carts seem to save the most space in a small workshop. I did a full review of my Rikon jointer here :Rikon 6 Inch Benchtop Jointer Review - Model 20-600H kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNF5jahor9HaiGw.html

You have an excellent workshop! But please avoid using that can of WD40 on your woodworking machines. It leaves a sticky residue that will attract dust just make matters worse. WD40 was formulated as a water dispersant, which it does exceptionally well. Before the days of electronic ignition, if a car stopped because of heavy rain, we would simply spray WD40 into the distributor cap and onto the HT leads, and the car would run again. Magic! But there are much better lubricants and dismantling fluids. The great success is that WD40's marketing department has led us to believe that it is a universal panacea, a cure for all ills. Which it absolutely is not. But, yes. There is a can of WD40 in my workshop, too... 😞
