New firmware is out. I updated over the weekend and it's good to go. Going to try to make a quick video over lunch.

I normally never do, but the new features had me pretty excited, lol. I'll keep an eye out for the new firmware version and make a quick update video when they do release it without bugs.

Honestly loving the video features in this update. I don't even care if they don't fix the C1 thing at this point, just tell me it isn't going to brick the camera so I can update my other one or hold off if it will.

I'll take an update on it not being an issue outside of the custom modes until they roll something else out at least.

Tried it. No bueno. Got my hopes up too because I didn't think of doing this prior.

You don't have the pixelshift stuck on?

@@omarknowsphotos it was 1.4.1 , and the strange thing is that the guys from the service didn't let me finish my sentence and they already new what is the firmware number that killed the camera.

@@omarknowsphotos luckily I wasn't shooting any paid event at that time but still.. 2 weeks old :| . I was waked up by the firetruck stopped next to my building for an alarm.

@@stefanpaulslavila287 Oof. I remember last year this being an issue with the R3 and R5 and they had to pull the firmware. Crazy that it happened again. I haven't updated the cameras at my job yet and will definitely be holding off. Please keep us updated on this!

I use it for social content mostly. It's handy, but a dedicated piece of equipment would be infinitely better unless you're talking about having it as a monitor for short clips or repeatable shots out of convenience. It's hard to beat for something like that, but I absolutely cannot recommend it for all day shooting.

I agree, but the thing is I'm not sure if it's compartmentalized to custom settings or if we can somehow accidentally trigger it to appear on standard manual mode and just not know how to disable it. It's a little bizarre.

I updated firmware too and took my camera out for a day for a car photo shoot at a cars and coffee. Took photo and video and ALWAYS just shoot in M mode. Got home took pics and video of my kid around the house and didn’t notice this or have a “busy” warning. I’ll look closer tmw when I’m messing around with the camera. I WILL say I am still LOVING this camera and clog 3 looks great still … wish we could get clog 2 even on an external recorder or ProRes RAW 4k or 4.5k or something just to have more options. Lastly I’m really digging the digital tele converter. I only have the 24-105 and a 50mm now and man that 24-105 becomes insanely versatile that I can get it up to 3x. You do LOOSE face detention on the tele converter from what I’ve noticed but I think it’s a great feature and I can still achieve human AF focus and other subjects pretty actually in those modes.

Nah. Multiple people reporting now. Genuinely wonder if they swapped it out and kept the version number the same or something since it was quick? Tempted to try updating my other one to see.

Coming back to this, it seems like there was a minor hardware change between ship dates because my other one updated without issue and I eventually figured out a way to scrub the pixelshift mode. So odd.

Anytime. The video side of things is perfectly fine. Used it all day yesterday.

@@omarknowsphotos I use my pair of R5Cs for both photo and video (one for photo, one for video, with each other as backups), including the custom modes, which are set up similar to yours. FWIW, this is why I don't update firmware often. I prefer stability over features most of the time.

@@loudandclearmedia Yeah. I usually never update immediately, but the fast transition time got me excited and I opted to do one. I'm going to shoot all week with the updated one to see if there's an issue beyond the custom mode. So far since I made this, manual seems fine but you do lose your C1

How would this be any different from your standard locked off shot at a low shutter speed?

When did you update? Maybe they already fixed it?

Same day it was released on Canon USA website. I would imagine their Configuration Management would give it a different number if they fixed it. Ive been trying to get it to fail like yours.

@@michaelhampton2688 Enter C1 mode and it's automatically there. Its been popping up for some people in the Facebook groups now too. No option to turn it off anywhere either, it's pretty annoying at this point.

@@darrylpanchyson4201 you actually gave me the idea for a fix that seems to work. I pinned at as the top comment for others to find, but you clear it and then overwrite it with settings from another mode and you're golden. What's odd is that I updated my other camera with the same file and it had no issues. I'm thinking there was a hardware change during the supply shortage and anyone who has the issue probably got theirs around April 2022 after they were backordered for a few months.

This is a company that sells pro-line equipment for work, so yes, it is a big deal.

@@contentm3893 I spent $35k investing into this system for pro work last year. There is no avenue of contact that will get a response from Canon other than raising awareness that there's an issue with a pro-line product other than getting others to speak up and at least guarantee us that we're good to use the other modes without this issue somehow creeping or glitching over. Their social team didn't respond and their service email hasn't either. I don't believe in brand loyalty. I want my equipment to work as advertised, especially if it wasn't an issue prior.

@@contentm3893 Bodies, lenses, cages and accessories, power, monitors, recorders, cards etc. Buying into an ecosystem isn't cheap. I rent the one-off equipment and buy whatever is regular use.
