You forgot the most important part: that this bike fits in elevators and studio apartments and permits inner city dwellers to get out on the cheap. I could ride this thing from my Manhattan apartment to a Long Island beach and store it safely in my foyer. Crazy. No wonder Asia loves mini bikes. The sound of the bike is superb. Great video overall. Thanks!

I bought this as my first bike back in Feb. Brilliant bike for newbies and anyone looking to commute. It does 180 miles per gallon, so I literally spend a fiver a month on fuel. Only downside is 60mph max speed, but if you're commuting that doesn't really matter. Plus it's just so much fun!

I weighed about 185 pounds at the time, and could only get a little over 45 mph out of it going up McGovernville Rd. It's a great fun bike, but the thing that keeps me from having one for myself is that I need something I can ride to New England once a year or so. It would be a second bike for putzin' around, and I'd still keep the PCX scooter for my main riding. The PCX has more storage and mine is tuned to do 75mph if needed. The Grom isn't about that kind of thing...That said, I'd love to have one, it would just be a toy, not a tool like my scooter is.

Having been a rider since age 14 (50 yrs) and with bikes #9 (an FJR sport tourer) and #10 (450cc dirt bike) currently in the garage, I'm starting to look very seriously at a Grom ABS. Just wanting to downsize back into carefree fun with lower seat height, mass and center of gravity, having both feet down at stoplights, etc. My preference is country roads anyway, so 45 mph will work just fine. (Proof: The FJR is covered in gravel road dust and putts along happily at 45 mph/2000-ish rpm in 5th gear when I'm by myself on the backroads. It does quickly get wallowy in thick, loose gravel though, so have to be watchful for that.) This video made me laugh out loud when you said the Grom is a great addition to one's fleet of bikes, but not as an ONLY bike. Replying to the question someone might ask about riding motorcycles and saying to them "I have a Grom" not being an acceptable answer cracked me right up! Thanks for the Bible verse too. I'm one of your brothers, friend. Simply hoping to meet Lord Jesus by not awakening one morning in my bed rather than having brought a motorcycle to a car fight. Been close a couple of times. Always wear all the gear. Buy ABS if it's offered. Random oil slick at a stoplight and invisible sand on blacktop can quickly/surprisingly wash out a front tire contact patch no matter how careful one is with the right hand lever.

I've had mine about 3 years, great bike for busy city commuting. It's quite forgiving but stock tyres are garbage especially in the wet, get something like Michelin city grips instead. Also the short wheel base makes the handling quite quick but also not that stable under hard braking (abs might be different). Also have an R3 and the grom is definitely better around the city - R3 is a bit frustrating in heavy traffic and power is at the top of rev band so youre constantly thrashing it in 1st and 2nd which gets a bit tiring. Neither would be good on the highway!

To be honest..its uncomfetable seat is a dismal fail..it has you sliding into the tank..hard work flogging the gears to stay ahead of traffic. Its big attraction is ease of handling eg parking, lane splitting ..loading onto pick up etc. The horn button smothers the indicator button , indicators dont self cancel, rear brake is not great. And aftermarket pipe helps cars hear youre pressance and half the wieght of the original spark arrestor monstrosity pipe. Light is pathetic..and permanantly glowing front indicators confuse both rider and traffic not in a good way. Wished Id bought the Kawasaki auto version lighter easier. Ps Rear fender wieghs a ton..def buy a "tail tidy"

So i was a missionary in Brazil for many years. Small cc bikes dominate the market there. I had a 125cc honda cg, which is similar to a grom with "regular" size tires. In the same way as the grom, it was fun, sipped gas, and the engine was unbreakable. When i actually did break something it was ridiculously cheap. I cracked the turn signal lens on mine when it was parked. I went to a corner store and bought not just the lens cap, but the whole turn signal post, bulb and lens for $2.50! Top speed seemed to be better than the grom though because i could easily do 110km/hr (65 mph ish)

I once got a ticket in NJ for "accelerating faster than required" in my 1970 Plymouth Fury 440 magnum. I did not spin the tires nor break any speed limits, just accelerated too fast for the officer that wrote the ticket's tastes. Went to court and, of course, the Judge agreed with the officer that I accelerated too fast even though it was a bright and sunny day. It had stock exhausts, was not loud and none of that mattered so, you can get a ticket for acceleration even with no wheel spin or wheelie involved.

I wouldn't care about displacement. I'd just ask for more HP. More displacement would add more weight which would ruin part of the bikes fun factor. A better idea is to improve the engine and add more gears to the transmission. Kawasaki makes a 125cc Ninja for Europe and the UK that has 15hp. Why can't honda put DOHCs and 4 valves on the grom with a higher top rpm. You could change the bore and stroke to be more oversquare and add a 5 speed at the least. That is all I would do to the grom's stock arrangement.
@joemann7971
@joemann7971 3 жыл бұрын
@@theq4602 There no easy way to add more power to the Grom without adding more weight. The Ninja 125 you mentioned... guess what? Its liquid cooled. Adding liquid cooling to a currently air cooled bike will add more weight, even if to keep the displacement the same. Honda had a CBR125R, which is more or less like the Ninja 125 you mentioned. It generated around 13.8 hp, and that was also liquid cooled. Im sure if Honda wanted to, they could get the Grom up to 15 hp and add more gears, and such, but all that would make the bike more expensive, and maybe Honda wants to keep the price lower as a more entry level bike. That might be why.

The Honda Grom is not the best beginner motorcycle from a financial point of view: it's too expensive for it's size (is around 3500$ with paper work), low performance, and 4 gears only. That engine could be stretched quite a bit more and still last a very long time. From a technical driving point of view, is one of the obvious choices for beginners, i agree with that. Driving that i almost like driving your mountain bike with wide snow-tires and a 100 pound backpack on your back. For a low performance, low price, 5 gears-speed, i would choose a 1000$ cheaper bike, like the Benelli 125 TNT. You guys, have a great week! ;)

On a side note, I know there are Chinese clones of the old bike, with bigger engines, electric start, etc. Noodling around, it seems the Lifan Trail Buddy has had some good reviews. They can be bought new for as little as $1200, but I’m a bit concerned about quality and repairs. I’d love to see SRK do a review and test ride on a new Chinese Trail clone.

Keep in mind this bike is a 2018. The video was posted 2 years ago. $3,000 is a four-year-old quote , take a look on the internet today and feel free to post how much a brand new 2022 would cost . I guarantee it's nowhere near $3,000. I didn't look, but I'm sure it's much higher. Not only that but if you do a little research you will find that the first question out of every owner is how do I make it faster? The answer to that question is don't purchase something this small in the first place. If you're looking for Speed it becomes a money pit. Go for at least any Japanese 400cc bike to start. Then you will have no problem on the highway and it's also not too big and not too small. My first bike was a Honda 400 Hawk used, sold it three years later for the price I paid then stepped up to a brand new Honda 750.

I'm going to be doing a review on the Benelli vs the Grom and why the grom is the better choice, but ultimately it does boil down to reliability, availability of parts, and cost of labor. Now if you're doing all of the wrenching yourself, you're confident you can fix and source the parts needed for repair, and for whatever reason you like the styling of the Benelli better, than I suppose that would make sense. Also the fact that all age groups recognize and are excited when they see the honda badge, its a great conversation starter and gets more looks than the Benelli.

Holy crap bro I was not expecting to recognize everywhere you went. I’m from the same area, go to the nook everyday. So I’m looking for a new commuter, new to bikes. I love the verses and short message you put into your vid, keep up the good work :)

Wish there was not a huge up charge on them here in Guam. It would be great for the low speed roads and close distances coupled with high gas prices.
