Travel around the world to visit some of nature’s most incredible snakes: vipers, and find out which are the most dangerous.
--
As of 2021, there are 368 species of viper worldwide. The name comes from the term viviparity, which means giving birth to live young. Vipers are often highly venomous, with two hollow, extra long fangs that unfold into imposing weapons when the viper prepares to strike. So, which are the most dangerous? Andrew Whitworth travels around the world to visit some of nature’s most incredible snakes.
Lesson by Andrew Whitworth, directed by Billie Baxter.

You shouldn’t be, snakes don’t like to waste their venom on something they can’t eat, and only one snake species has been reported eating someone (and it was starving anyway) it was a reticulated python, which is non venomous. Snakes bite because they are fearful, not because they want to, they feel like they need to. And in most cases, a healthy person will survive a snake bite with treatment. So honestly, they are not that scary

most are so pretty, cute, and plenty in the wild wont even bite. I probably got bit by 100 snakes this summer doing research for the chicago park district. They were all sweet and calmed down eventually, and none of them hurt 1/10th as much as getting bit or scratched by a cat or dog. they are really the sweetest, and working with them taught me a lot about myself and how to overcome fears and brace yourself for situations.

It depends alot on the snake. I personally own a cornsnake, he’s lovely and cute, but sometimes if i hold him a bit too fast after feedingday he will bite. It just feels like velcro, though. Most snakebites are way less har,ful then bird, cat or dogbites. I’d much rather be bitten by a big pet snake than a small dog

As someone who used to be afraid of snakes to someone who loves them now and is actively seeking to care for one, i think it is very fascinating that my desensitization came from just knowing how snakes act and react- mostly from channels like snake discovery who shed a positive light on snakes. It really is fear of the unknown, because things like tarantulas and millipedes hardly scare me anymore either. I wish more awareness was spread because often human reaction to fear is the unknown which caused a lot of endangerment to animals, especially with snakes :( for anyone who comes across this video scared of snakes i hope you overcome that fear because snakes are very awesome :D

I've never had a fear of snakes. But I recently read that rattle snakes are evolving into rattle-less snakes. The ones you hear are the first ones killed by man or hunted by predators. Those rare anomalies, born without the noisy rattle live to bite another day. And they are breeding with each other. We are literally forcing a species into a quick evolution via their deformities.

I really enjoy that this video doesn't forthright tell you to simply NOT be afraid of snakes, but educates you on them so you know more about the thing (snakes) you are afraid of, and that knowledge in turn could make you less afraid of them.

Ummm….not gonna lie when I clicked on this I thought they will show me how the fear of snake is irrational and how I should NOT be afraid. But this video is like 100% the opposite.. now I can go on being more afraid of snakes… THANKS Ted Ed

Yeah, i thought they would say facts about non-venomous snakes. Those puppy noodles. Only 15% of all snake species are considered dangerous to humans, with the majority not even able to do us any harm at all. Like, i have a cornsnake(he’s pink) and he will never be dangerous, he simply doesn’t grow big enough. These kind of facts are more fear-reducing then “let me tell you all about those that CAN kill you” That is like “Scared of dogs?” And then a video about how many dogs kill people and how(i got attacked by a dog when i was younger and still can’t trust them, so i used an example i could relate to) or most dangerous dog species or something like that… tell about how harmless most can be, not how dangerous the few are

I am terrified of snakes; like to the point where if I see one, I’m gone sooner than you can say “coyote and roadrunner”. The art is so cute but the fight or flight instinct was still ringing a danger bell. Great information and great vid!

That was younger me and dogs haha. I personally have a pet snake(he’s pink, and such a sweet boy. He never bites, never hisses and just cuddles) but i still have a hard time being in the same house as small dogs. It makes me sad that other people bring their dogs to places, but if i even dare to think i could bring my snake people yell that i’m selfish 😓

I actually love snakes a lot. just clicked on the video because I saw snakes. I love them so much, they feel awesome when you hold it. Snakes are so cute and you can pick up any snake at least once so its worth it. Sadly where I live is too hot for snakes to roam about normally so they hide in borrows a lot. Its hot enough for them to die in seconds after touching the surface layer of dirt.

Vipers have a tendency of wiggling their tails, it's like a featured trait they all have. Whether it's a rattle, a spider-like appendage or just their tail in general.

I worked with wild snakes this summer. I own cats and have owned dogs. All i will say is, I have always known when a snake is going to bite me, and it never hurt 1/10th as bad as a dog or cat bite/scratch. They are chill creatures.
