Just remove wall and if house collapse then it’s load bearing wall

Rafters provide a certain amount of shear protection in the parallel direction. Walls that are perpendicular to the rafters are more important for shear resistance.

There's a lot of factors that affect racking (lateral forces) such as maximum wind strength for your area, pitch of roof, height of wall, stud spacing, type and thickness of wall board, nail spacing and gluing, shrubbery and other buildings in the immediate vicinity, etc.

A structural engineer told me that the newer the house, the more open the floorplan, and thus the interior walls are increasingly minimized for the absolute minimum one can get away with and still bear loading. Not sure if that's entirely correct, but it's interesting to consider that older houses were likely overbuilt (in some regard).

The fewer the interior walls you have the more important they become..

Another good informative video....Slightly less, ( but only slightly, as these too need shear/lateral resistance), applicable to the UK (where I live) as most older houses are of brick construction...but the newer builds are a brick outer with a timber inner leaf....so, useful to all. One question ...did you ever complete the 501 constructor tips series of videos?

Any issue with the freestanding load bearing wall around 6:06? Does it need any sort of bracing or is being tied to the ceiling joists enough?

I bought a 86 yr old house, it has a butler pantry and a really small kitchen, the wall that enters into the kitchen from the butler pantry I want to remove to add more cabinets for the kitchen, in the attic there is 1 and only 1 stud which I believe is some sort of support for the roof, how can I remove that 1 and add the support to the load bearding wall 3ft away? Thank you no trust system either in the house

What about replacing non-load-bearing walls with beams? Could a beam sufficiently replicate the lateral support? Maybe with bracing or brackets to really fasten the beam to the ceiling joists?

Yes, if it would work like a moment frame. The beam can transfer a lateral load, but usually won't provide additional lateral support.

Thanks. I recently expanded non load bearing opening from 8 ft to 12 ft on my 1 story 10 ft old home. Did not add a footing on basement. All my handyman did is to add 4 by 12 by 12 ft beam and 2 posts each 4 by 4 which attached to 2 by 4. Not sure if it is enough. Can I send you a couple photos?

why are the ceiling joists broken 2 or even 2 times in the mid section? If they break only once in the middle, like the right side of the house, that will make 2 more walls non-load bearing. Will the house be more stable?

I don't know how much it would help, but it seems like it the fewer breaks you have the stronger the ceiling would be.
