I love old baseball. I've been binge watching all-star games since the corona scare began. Started with the 1982 A.S. game and I'm up to the 87 game. I watched the 94 game a few weeks ago and that's hands down the best so far.😃👍⚾

I love this thank you...you have class. 1972 was my baseball wheel house. To defend my generation, we were able to focus and know the count and inning without having Fox tell us.....we also easily sat quietly in school and listen without complaining about being bored. Fun fact: The Oakland A's owner (Charles Finely) made a fortune in the Insurance business. He bought the Kansas City A's and wanted to write off expenses to reduce taxes on his insurance profits. Thus, he spent a fortune on scouting, and his scouts fund the bulk of their talent on this team doing the extensive scouting.

The "old people" watching these games were aware of everything. They grew up listening to games on radio. They knew how to STFU and take it in. There is a logic to it all, a web of interlocking patterns - there are always surprises, but the underlying structure has cohesion (like Bach or Beethoven) that allow the knowledgeable spectator to orient herself quickly (and that reorientation is pure joy). It is a conceit of every younger generation to think the preceding generation was "slow" (just as it is a conceit of every older generation to think the subsequent generation is flaky). Love your videos.

No one that was around then to watch this wishes it was more like baseball is today. 1972 isn't jealous of 2020. Bring in one of the players from that game on the phone or to the studio to get them to enlighten everyone on some things. Find Tony Perez and get him on the phone and ask him about the way he played first base. I'm afraid that some of your audience is taking this as looking at the past and comparing it to now and not in a good way. The games of 1972 stand on their own as great games. The ratings of the World Series games have been going down since 1978. There was something that attracted people to watch the games on TV back then, even if you think you could hardly tell who the teams were.

@@T.C.Clarien No, they usually only told the count when the count changed. Same for outs, they usually only told you how many outs there were after a play or at bat ended. The score, you could be waiting a few minutes before they told you the score if you started to view the game mid inning.

You guys are pretty funny, but have some respect for your elders! We knew what was going on in the game at all times, and if YOU had been listening to Curt Gowdy you wouldn't have been wondering whether Morgan was on the move on that scoring play in the 8th. (He was.) Also, the TV picture, while horrid by today's standards, was something your brain adjusted to. We thought it was great at the time. Overall, great stuff.

Video recordings weren't as good as they are now, and what they are watching has probably degraded over time nd gotten fuzzier. During the live broadcast in 1972 it would have been clearer. People would have been able to read the names on the back of jerseys. Though probably 1/3 to 1/2 half of the people saw it in black and white, not everyone had color TV in 1972..

Same thing with hockey back in the old days. (like 80s and older) There usually wasn't a time clock in the corner, so if you weren't paying close attention the only way you knew how much time was left in the period (or in a penalty) was if the announcer said something or when it went to a commercial. Maybe they would do a "frame in frame" of the arena clock for the last minute of the period.

I'm old enough to recognize the voice of Curt Gowdy doing the play-by-play. And I wouldn't swear to it, but I think the color guy is Bill King, who remained a fixture of Oakland teams' radio broadcasts through the 80s (yeah, I grew up in the Bay Area).
@MrHumbleHero

Definitely not Bill King. I think it's Monte Moore. Back then they would take one of the home team's announcers and put him on the national telecast as the color analyst, or third man in the booth.
