Recent restoration/remaster of the partial NBC Broadcast (first few innings) with Curt Gowdy, Lindsay Nelson and Toni Kubek was recorded and digitalized off 3 VHS pre recorded tape versions for the most complete and best quality I could find in my archives VHS tapes I've had since the early 90s, the VHS tapes were later transferred through a DVD burner (cir.2003) the Original NBC also includes the pre game show 'The Baseball World of Joe Garagiola' with series Highlights and interviews and special guest Reggie Jackson and a look at the MLB umpires around the league
Game 4 starters are Ken Holtman for Oakland and Jon Matlack for New York as the Oakland A's have a 2 games to 1 lead as we head into game 4 from Shea Stadium as the Mets are looking to even things up
Also Includes: the official MLB 1973 World Series film recorded and digitalized right off the original commercial VHS

It's amazing...Staub hits a 3 run HR in the 1st inning and there's no showboating. He just runs around the bases like a professional should.

it was a different world back then. players didn't make that much money and pro sports wasn't given the coverage, attention, and importance that it is given today. technology changed all that

Mike Andrews batted as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, receiving a standing ovation before and after his at-bat, which resulted in a ground out. It was his last major league plate appearance.

The Shea Stadium PA announcer in this game was Loren Matthews. He took over on April 18, 1970 when his predecessor (Jack Lightcap, the Shea PA announcer during the 1969 World Series) had to enter the hospital for cancer treatments. Lightcap died on June 29, 1970.

@@pheniafilmsthemlbarchiveso9229 Ah yes, I STILL remember the friendly voice of Jack Franchetti at old Shea Stadium. He was the PA announcer when the Mets last won the World Series in 1986. Here are a few of his trademark calls: "Here's the Mets Number One........Mookie........Wilson!" "Mets first baseman..........Keith..... Hernandez!" "The catcher..........Gary.......Carter!" When announcing the starting lineups: "First, for [visiting team's manager] [name of visiting team] " Followed by: "And now ladies and gentlemen, for Dave Johnson's Mets!" :-)

It wasn't Finley who dismantled the A's. It was Bowie Kuhn and his favoritism towards the NYY that caused the destruction and then the AL East to enjoy the former Athletics riches.

That is an amazing, prescient interview with Seaver and Catfish at 14:40 ripping the 'egotistical, publicity-seeking owner' (Catfish harshly criticizing his own boss for the Mike Andrews fiasco) 2 years before 'Boss George' and the Yankees Clown show started to take off. Ironically, George tried hiring Dick Williams who quit the A's but couldn't reach an agreement with Finley to let him go out of his last 2 years of his contract

Matlack pitched two great games against the A's ... but it seemed that Holtzman getting knocked out in the first might have been a blessing because he was a lot fresher when he came back in Game 7.

In the third inning, Matlack catches fire. At this point in his career, Trumpbour had a 2-pitch repertoire. His fastball was always there, and the home plate mic catches him grunting on delivery of his smoke. What really mattered with Jon was the curveball. If he couldn't get it to break or throw for strikes, he was in danger of getting bombed, as batters would wait for the fastball. If he had both pitches working, #32 was one tough customer.

Chances are slim that Bill Shea would be on a bus going anywhere are slim. NYC behind-the-scenes power broker, who's interest in sports led him to be an influencer in MLB, AFL/NFL, NHL and NY political circles. Not surprising that his name and not Robert Moses was picked because of his contributions and a far less caustic persona. Moses tried to force Flushing Meadows stadium on Dodgers which led to their move to LA. Moses had an ego as large as Charlie Finley's and was just as reviled by those who had to deal with them.
