the show is best when viewed as a separate entity from the books. the show is good on its own without all the comparisons. the first season got bad reviews mostly due to low budget and a bit of rough acting. but the second and third seasons had a much higher budget and got much better reviews. it’s really unfortunate that it was cancelled though :( the fanbase was really strong but it was an expensive show to produce. definitely worth a watch!

Alec and Jace are parabatais which basically means they fight together as lifelong partners, bound together by an oath. Their bond is reflected in their closeness and willingness to lay down their life for eachother but also if one was to die, a part of the other dies with them and there is no greater pain for a shadowhunter than to loose his or her parabatai And Alec always thought he was in love with Jace but he was confusing this brotherly love with romantic love Hes been closeted his whole life, knowing how the shadow world and his parents, would view him if he came out (hence why he looked so miserable in the first episode) He met Magnus and then you really started to see a change in him He became happier and calmer Matthew Daddario (Alec) really did an incredible job portraying that

The line "that made me sad, now I need some milk" really cracked me up. In all honesty, this show is better then most give it credit for. I'd definitely recommend watching it, even if you decide to not make reaction videos

23:20 "Do they get married in the books?" Yes, but it took a lot longer and it was a whole thing. They didn't get married in The Mortal Instruments, but in the sequel series The Dark Artifices, which is set five years later. They agreed to get married a lot earlier than that but wouldn't do it until their marriage would be recognised in Shadowhunter society. Not because they're gay, but because Shadowhunters marrying Downworlders is permitted, but not in a Shadowhunter wedding ceremony, and it's not officially recognised by the Clave (the governing Shadowhunter body). But Alec is elected Consul (basically Shadowhunter president) and changes the laws as one of the first things he does, and then they get married. By this point they have already adopted two kids. So very different from the show.

I didn't expect to like this series either due to the reviews but once watching I couldnt help but binge it all! Definitely worth giving it a watch even if you've now seen the first and last episode 😂

My opinion, I thought season one was pretty bad, but after that it got much better, each season got better then the last and the final season was really good.

I love Shadowhunters so much - I really think you should watch the whole thing! Your reaction is amazing and hilarious lol! I didn't watch Shadowhunters live (I saw it in 2020 or 2021) but I do know that it's not suuuuper faithful to the books lol. It followed basically the same concept, and some plots were the same or similar, but some were different. The show was doing vaguely a book per half season, but when it was cancelled they squeezed the last book into the rest of the third season, so even though it's good it's a bit rushed. Also I died when you said Alec looks like the years relaxed him - the timeline is so funky, especially between all the relationships, but the show is assumed to take place over about 3-4 months start to finish XD. I personally stretch it out as long as possible in my head, but that's only till about 5 months lol. Anyway, the first season isn't as good as the other two, and it has cheesy moments or some weird acting in every season, but it seriously is really good. And I mean, you better expect some cheese if you're watching a show about teen/young adult monster hunters lol. Sorry this got so long lol! I just love this show a lot XD. But yeah, I definitely recommend it! Even though you know the ending lol. And if you wanted to post reaction videos, I'd definitely watch! Besides there not being enough shadowhunters reactions, I loved your commentary here, especially the meme clips XD

I didn't read these books so I didn't have the same problem as most of the commentors. Love the show, though. Honestly, I started watching it because I saw the movie and wanted to know how the cliffhanger went 🤣 Stuck around because I really liked it... and it's (obviously) one of the few that I watch reactions for. And my favorite, like many people's, is Magnus. He went from a really fun scene-stealing side character to one of the best scene-stealing main characters 😄 and really made the show.

OMG! I want to explain so much to you! A few spoilers below... Maureen went away early on. That new girl is Maya. She's a character from the books. Both Johnathan and Clary are Jocelyn and valentine's children. When she was pregnant he did experiments without her knowledge. He gave Johnathan demon blood and Clary angel blood. She called Luke dad because he raised her....Luke, Jocelyn and Valentine were all friends when they were younger. Luke used to be a Shadowhunter. Jocelyn lives in the books. In the books Alec and Magnus do get married but first they adopt two children. An abandoned baby warlock and an orphaned Shadowhunters child. Simon is turned into a vampire in the first season/book. It takes awhile, but he and Isabelle do eventually become a couple. There's so much more going on. Between the show and 13+ books, this isn't even the a scratch on the surface. So happy you picked this show to cover!

So Happy more people are watching Shadowhunters!!! It can be a lot or confusing at times but the characters are great and the world is so creative. Definitely watch the rest of the show. There are ALOT of things different from the books, certain characters that didn't die in the book does in the show, and vice versa. Some people are different species, the ages are different and alot of plot points as well PS. Seelies are fairies
