That, and they probably realized that changing the design would have made more money than leaving it the way it was. After already making a solid story with some pretty good humor, it would have been such a waste.

Yeah but he wanted sonic 2 to be his last movie unless a " really good, sent from high,script" promts him to return. The third sonic has a new villain.... [SPOILER!!!!!!!] ....Shadow.

The fact that Sonic addresses the villain as both Dr Robotnik and Dr Eggman comes from the differences between the Japanese and English instruction manuals of the early Sega games. In Japan, he was always called Dr Eggman. But in the US, his name was Dr Ivo Robotnik. Later on, the US versions adopted the Eggman name.

Not only that, But japan acknowledged the "Ivo Robotnik" as either his true name (Eggman being a nickname given to him by sonic and he simply taking it in stride) OR in some versions Ivo Robotnik being Eggmans Grandfather, who created Shadow.

I was honestly shocked with this movie. Based off the trailers and the controversy on how he looked, I was not hopeful. But man, this movies just really fun. Nothing too special, but nothing and either. I have no past history with sonic, but this movie actually encouraged me to check some of the games out.

I was there from the very beginning playing the original Sega games as a kid, so this is an evolution of how far Sonic has transpired towards many generations!

Honestly, this movie was a very important moment in my life. Sonic The Hedgehog has been a huge part of my life since I was five. When my family broke apart and we were fighting and hurting each other, I didn’t have anyone to look up to. But every time I saw Sonic and his friends, they were my heroes and they brought me happiness through every hardship. They inspired me to become someone kind and selfless who helps and protects people. So seeing Sonic make his way to the big screen was very important to me.

I’m glad that the creators redid the design of Sonic in this film otherwise, it would’ve failed miserably. I’m relieved that this first Sonic film was successful enough that it got a sequel(which is much better imo) and that a third film is pending! Honestly, one of the better video game films to date. Really glad to see you react to this film, Nick, and very excited for when you get to Sonic 2 when it’s released!

I'm still amazed by that huge transition from the horrendous first trailer to the final product. If Paramount hadn't redesigned Sonic, then it wouldn't have been the critical and financial success that it is now.

The character at the end credits is Tails. He is introduced in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video game and is Sonic’s sidekick and best friends in the series. His real name is Miles Prower but is nicknamed Tails for his two tails. Back in the day he was the competing Player 2 character to Luigi from Super Mario.

My sibling is a big Sonic fan who could play through the OG game faster than anyone I know. And our family has played it so many times that we can remember what soundtrack goes with which level. 😁 To see a production team actually respect our childhood made us so happy. 👏

I'm glad they actually listened to the fans for once and made Sonic a fun, adventure movie. I saw Sonic 2 last month in theater and it was an awesome follow-up to this. I really hope Sonic 3 will also be great and Sonic will have both a great game AND movie trilogy.

I've been looking forward to this reaction all day, it's really a fun movie! I had the privilege of seeing the first and second movie in theaters when they were released; completely worth it! The whole cast is great, especially Jim Carey as Robotnik! Though I'm no Sonic expert, you can tell they put in a lot of care into adapting the franchise, and it shows even more so in the sequel. I'd definitely say Sonic 2 is even better than the first, so I'm looking forward to it!

I remember seeing this in theater with my mom. My mom knows pretty much nothing about Sonic other than who he is. And she ended up really liking it and so we made sure yo see the sequel together as well. Glad you had fun though Nick and can't wait for you to see the sequel!

I grew up with Sonic and I was also skeptical about the movie but afterwords I noticed so many references I loved it. The second one went beyond expectations. It’s awesome.

I think this might be the first video game movie that I really enjoyed. My favorite part of the whole movie is when Dr. Robotnik first sees Sonic and screams before getting punched in the face! Also, when Tom goes to retrieve Sonic from the bar and tells the bartender/waitress that he is actually 43 years old, that was a tongue in cheek joke. Sonic is canonically 15 years old. Add that to the fact that the first game was released in 1991, and you get 43 years old. (Technically 44 if you use the release year of 2020, but the joke was more than likely penned in 2019, when the math added up)

If the original design for sonic was the stuff of nightmares, I'm pretty sure Tails' design would be atleast 23 levels lower than that.

Hey Nick, long time no see! I have so many memories with sonic. My older sister introduced me to the original game for the PC, I used to watch the Sonic x cartoon every Saturday morning, and now in my twenties watching the first and second movie it was such a great experience seeing part of my childhood come to life on the big screen! YES!!!! Love this movie! The original trailer drew a lot of controversy as the new design of Sonic did NOT look at all like the video game character. Fans had signed a petition to have Sonic redone a few months before the films release.

Nick, the first three-four Sonic games for the SEGA Genesis are so good, as is Sonic Adventure and it's sequel for the Dreamcast/GameCube/PC. This movie surprised me so much as a Sonic fan -- and yeah it doesn't introduce all the characters yet since we gotta introduce the audience to Sonic and Robotnik first and build things up. The second film is even better in my opinion! The first film is very roughly based on the first game, which has Sonic beat up Eggman/Robotnik and save animals. The second film is based on both Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles, which introduce Miles "Tails" Prower and Knuckles The Echidna respectfully.

Sonic The Hedgehog will always be my favorite video game character I grew up playing Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations all the time on the Xbox 360 I was so pumped I got to see both movies in the theaters!! Also glad to see you react to the movie!

Sonic 2 is good too! PS. The 2 tailed fox is named Tails (Miles 'Tails' Prower) and it's a he but is voiced by the voice actor from the game and tv series since 2014, who is a she.

nick if you ever did want to do video games, either as a video lets play series, or as streaming it live, that would be really cool and i would definitely watch! not that you have to or should feel like you have to! because setting up to record gameplay, either on pc or console, is a whole different animal compared to regular video reactions, and would probably be kind of complicated to do for the first time. but if thats something you ever did have a genuine desire to do for yourself, i know your fans would be supportive, and would have quite a few games to recommend for you 🤣 thank you for another great video!!

To quickly clarify, in case someone hasn't already, Tails is a boy 😂 he's just little. Several years younger than Sonic. But I really enjoyed your reaction!! I watched this (and the sequel) almost a year ago and absolutely fell in love. The movies are sure different from the games but that's totally fine with me! I ADORE the found family themes through the movies and the slightly different take on Sonic's story and personality. I've watched them both probably ten times by now and have explored the rest of the franchise since, and it's been a total blast!

If you want an other great movie with Jim Carrey, I strongly recommend "Dumb and Dumber". And Jim Carrey shows more of his personality in this movie than in Sonic. Funny from the start to the end!

I think you’ll REALLY enjoy the sequel! The movie is full of Easter Eggs out of the games. Let’s be honest though- Jim carried that film! I totally agree though- even as a hardcore long term sonic fan, my boyfriend and I both said it wasn’t a GREAT film, but it WAS a lot of fun to watch. Looking forward to your take on the 2nd film.

Didn't play much Sonic and originally saw this because I love Jim Carrey so much, but it was surprisingly good considering many videogame adaptations end up bad. Still have to see the sequel. The McDonald's commercial for it was so good. The fox is a he by the way, but not to worry. Many people get the gender wrong 😅 Speaking of which, do you play many videogames? I'm curious to know what kind of franchises you're into if you do.

Actually…There’s a super fun Sonic mobile game called Sonic Forces Speed Battle and sometimes they have special events in which you can get special themed characters…One of those characters is Excalibur Sonic (which usually sometimes comes whenever they feel like doing an event revolving around him) and the other character is the Warehog (which usually comes around October-because it’s a Halloween themed character) You should really check the game out as they have so many other fun characters including some of the lesser known Sonic characters and some Sonic movie characters as well and they are even doing an event with the Sonic movie characters right now!

I promise hook 1991 is next it is directed by Steven Spielberg starring Robin Williams as Peter pan Dustin Hoffman as captain hook Julia Roberts as tinker bell and Bob Hopkins who played Eddie valiant in who framed Roger rabbit as mr smee and with the music by John Williams.

I Freaking Love this Movie,it was the Last Movie I watch before the Pandemic,I Love the Characters,Jim Carrey is Fantastic,and there's alot of Funny and Emotional Moments,this is a Perfect that's a 10 out of 10.

It was the third to last movie I saw in theaters before the pandemic caused all of the theaters to shut down. The last one I saw in theaters was Onward. I thought both of them were great.

@@westerfrost3701 Onward was also my last film in theaters before lockdowns began and my experience was very surreal. I went to see it on its second day of release and the theater was eerily quiet, making me have an uneasy feeling to it. Then literally a week later theaters began closing. Never did I imagine that I wouldn't set foot inside a theater until the following March when I went to see Godzilla vs. Kong.

I hate video game movies uand don't know much about sonic from the video games but I love this movie and the sequel. So much fun. Great reaction.

As a movie based off a video game they did a good job. In my opinion the first one is better than the second one, the second one is good don't get me wrong but it has some scenes that fall flat. As opposed to the first one where all the scenes were fun to watch.

What character in the sonic franchise interested me the most is Chaos 0 he is a mutated chao that use the power of master emerald and chaos emeralds and he is known as the god of destruction he’s described to be humanoid water elemental demon that when he use 7 chaos emeralds he turns into a kaiju like water monster which it happened in sonic adventure 1 on the Dreamcast
