The biggest reason people disliked this series is not that it had romance it is the fact that the romance is done so poorly that it becomes cringe. Excluding the fact that half the relationships are unhealthy and toxic the romance itself is just not done well.

@@supernovaskies5044 I never liked that troupe where a several hundred year old character falls in love with a teenager. That is just pedophilia but since this is fiction and it is something that can never happen in real life I can forgive that to an extent. What I can't forgive are the other equally terrible troupes like the one of oh this person is clearly a terrible person but since he is good looking I will tolerate it and my love can change them. It does not matter how dangerous they are to me and those around me my love will make him better. Add to that the fact that the relationship may not be consensual since humans naturally feel a desire to serve and love vampires a fact that is brought up by the books several times. Ruff tried to defend the cringe by saying most teenagers are cringe but that does not explain why the 100 year old vampire is acting more cringe and incompetent and childish than the teens.

@@nabinoorshahil2715 I was wondering: do the books ever state or imply that the mental uhhh.. state? Age? Maturity? of vampires stays fixed at whatever age they were turned or not? I think that was one of the assumptions some ppl made, and even the dudes in this reaction seemed to think, regarding the ethics of a 100 year-old vampire falling in love with a human teenager Personally, I never cared myself but I also never thought about it-- I suppose it really would be considered pedophilia of some kind And I wonder if whether or not the excuse of 'mental age/maturity/state' matters if Edward still has 100 years of experience existing on Earth, in human society for the most part? What exactly defines pedophilia in stories like this? Or just in general, I don't know Reminds me of the messy situation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Steve Rogers kissing Sharon Carter in one of their movies--- noone really talks about it but when u think about it, it's about as weird as this romantic scenario A 100-ish year old adult super soldier who was frozen in ice and time for 70 years knowingly developing a romantic interest in the normal-aged adult niece of his dead initial romantic interest (Peggy Carter) from World War 2 I think they probably let that scene happen as pay-off to their interactions before he'd known she was related to Peggy, or perhaps as a wink to their relationship in comics but... oof

For anyone who was curious about the part that got cut off, here you go. Alice had visions of the future even as a human, and because of the time period she was committed to an insane asylum. James was hunting her, and in order to save her, a vampire who happened to work there turned her.

@@leahscontemporary I mean, to me some of Edward and Jacob's behaviors are not something we should normalize and teach people is romantic. They are both very controlling of Bella and will lie and manipulate to get their way. Edward snuck into Bella's room at night to watch her sleep BEFORE they were even a thing, without her knowledge and consent. That's some real stalkerish behavior. And Jacob literally does not take Bella's no for a no. "If she says she doesn't want me, I will just try harder. Even if she already has a boyfriend." I found all this to be very romantic when I was younger which made me accept behaviors from my own partners that I probably shouldn't have. That is kind of my point. But I also agree that there are things that happen in books and movies that are fun to fantasize about, even though if it were to happen in real life it would be a problem. :)

Well it's a good thing vampires and werewolves aren't real. Anybody who takes paranormal relationships to base on their real life relationships is stupid. Vampires stalk, werewolves assert dominance any human would have some difficulty navigating that, but that's why it's fantasy and to take it out of context to put it into real life is stupid

There is more to the sparkly skin thing than just how earlier day humans perceived and interpreted it - which would then become vampire lore. There is an actual biological explanation of why their skin reflects light. During the change process, their entire body from bone to skin were crystalized, becoming harder than diamond. Because of this, light does not penetrate their skin, only reflects. I think its cool to see different variations of vampire lore.

They actually do go to prom at the end of the book, and Jacob shows up, but instead of talking to her outside on a bench, they dance together inside and have fun together before he tells her his father will be watching her. Then after dancing some more with Edward and talking to her friends from school, Edward takes her to a secluded bench. When they sit, Bella asks if tonight is the night Edward's gonna turn her, which he flat out refuses to ever do that, which upsets her, and they come to an impasse where Bella has decided she wants to be turned into a vampire, and Edward will not turn her.

My general opinion on this movie is that the "behind the scenes" is a more entertaining watch than the finished product. Because most of the first film's actual budget went towards marketing and actor salaries, the budget leftover for production is rather shoestring, and as a result there's a bunch of kinda genius practical effects going on, even if some of the corners they had to cut made it look like shit. That being said, I do have a soft spot for this movie. I don't hate it. The soundtrack exposed me to a bunch of music I wouldn't have listened to otherwise. I went to see Mutemath live in 2011 because of this movie.

I've given in-depth discussions about this on my Twitch channel before, but my biggest issue with this series (movie or book) is that there was GREAT potential, and it was executed poorly. Minor spoilers... The lore is insanely cool, and if expanded upon, it could've kept me regardless of characters. There's so much emphasis on the dangers of vampires, Quilluete (sp?) wolves, and European lycans even, but we get an extremely vague or dialed back version of the horrors of it. The characters were forced to behave in ways that were out of character for themselves, and it ruined the whole endearing aspect of them (apart from the G himself Charlie). Edward was meant to be an idealized husband with traditional values, but he was forced into a teenage drama. Jacob was meant to be the great take on a childhood friend who missed having someone as weird as them around, but again was forced into being a love interest even though his most natural scenes were just platonic towards Bella. BD part 2 is the best movie to me because it gives us a taste of what we could've had as far as intrigue, action, and world development. But Stephanie Myers was scared to go into the gritty stuff for fear she would lose her audience or the chance to hypothetically expand. In the end, she never did anything but rewrote things from a different POV. In short, a genre change, just a change in target audience (aging things up or writing over a longer period of time so the characters could meet and interact organically over years), or not fearing to make permanant decisions with characters would've made this series far greater imo. PS: Personally, I would've loved to see more traveling and interaction with vampires across the world, hearing their stories and seeing more on the lycans so many vampires fear. And more Bella being a normal high schooler and casually going to hang out with the reservation kids and finding out about them in a more natural setting to help them through it.

They actually didn’t change Victoria until Eclipse. I’m glad you mentioned the whole Alice/James thing. You didn’t mention, so I’m not sure you know, but Robert Pattinson sings two songs in the movie. During the restaurant scene when he explains he can read minds and in the ballet studio when he has to suck the venom out of her. Those were RP songs. I was and still am a diehard Twilight fan. I was actually in my 40s when I took my teenage daughter to see Twilight and I wound up seeing it more than she did. I didn’t read the books until after watching the third movie because I am the kind of person who can read the book before I see the movie because then I compare them too much and get upset about what changed or was left out. In Twilight a lot is left out. The back stories of Alice, Esme, and Emmett just to name a few. Even though we know a little about Edward’s backstory, they didn’t let you know that his father had already died of Spanish influenza, his mother, and he were in the hospital dying, and his mother, big Carlisle to save him. She didn’t know exactly that he was a vampire, but she knew there was something different about him. Edward didn’t resent Carlisle saving him because he read in his mind the conversation that Carlisle had with his mother. But he didn’t rebel against the restricted diet.

Hman, I also listen to the music all the time, I legit think they're all pretty good. "Uniquely entertaining" at the very least. Also, the director had a very specific aesthetic vision for this film. Cinematically, the first film is the worst out of all of them, each film gets much better "overall." ALSO Also, I would love to see y'all react to the rest of them, they really do get better and since you guys love lore so much, even though it's not as detailed as in the books, (almost) everyone gets their backstory explained at least briefly in the films. What I would love to see is the author, Stephenie Meyer, write a book chronologizing EVERYONE'S backstories IN DETAIL, and then perhaps a mini-series (tv or KZfaq) detailing each (important) character.

Hi guys. First time the watching your channel. I appreciate you doing these films. I haven't looked through all the comments but I will say that, the first film was considered low budget around 37 million I believe and grossed over 400 million. I'm the typical Twilight band. I love the books because they came out when I was working at a library and I read them and just happened to watch the first film and enjoyed it and actually own all the movies and the books now. I wasn't a teenager. I was late 30s or so I am understand getting frustrated when a book is different from usually the books are always better but I didn't mind these. These books were very successful and the author had a lot of say in them. You know, screenplays for movies are changed a lot, typically from the book making, just how it is. I know everybody gets up an arms about the toxicity of the relationships, I feel that's mostly younger generations. It is what it is. It's a movie and fictionional. I don't even know how some are these people that get so up in arms over things they don't consider politically correct? Would handle horror movies from the '80s and '70s etc like if.

there are more powers in the family.. they just are not thing you'd think of as SUPERpowers. Carlisle's power is his love of humanity and his ability to be around human blood due to his overwhelming desire to help others. compassion is his power. Rosalie is drop dead beautiful..im taking the most beautiful person on earth. in the books her beauty is talked about much more. Emmett is super strong and athletic, with a willingness to defend his family physically, using his strength to his advantage. Jasper has the best one Imo, he can influence people's moods and emotions to his will. Esme is the only one who 'doesn't have a power' but that's not true either because the Cullens say her power is to love whole heartedly and be a true mother figure, protecting and guiding unconditionally, beyond the capabilities of any normal woman. the movies force a spotlight on Edward and Alice's powers in order to drive the plot forward, but the books give you more context.

Before Twilight came out Robert Pattinson had only done some TV movies. The only well know appearance he had was in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory. Kristen Stewart had done The Safety of Objects, Panic Room with Jodie Foster, Catch That Kid, and Speak. As well as Fierce People, Zathura: A Space Adventure, The Messengers, The Cake Eaters, and Into The Wild before she was in Twilight. She was in a bunch of other things, but I only named the most well-known films she was in.

22:07 I'd go back. I didn't love everything, but I'm struggling with my university courses right now and I'd kill to go back to the days of highschool drama. It was like a second family for me. Also H man knowing THIS much is really ridiculously funny to me. My best friend is obsessed with the books to and I just don't understand why, but these movies are hilarious to me😂 27:23 also I'm dying of laughter, like damn, I did not expect that

I'm with you there Hman. I am also a huge vampire lore fan. I've read and seen so many different vampire stories I doubt I could name them all. And this does include Twilight. I love the books! I saw this first movie with my cousin when I was 19 and loved it. I quickly read all the books and loved them more. But it can be weird telling people that you're a fan because Twilight gets so much hate. Criticism from people who have read the books or seen the movies and just didn't jam with them is one thing. The outright mockery from people who have never read or seen it and who base their entire opinion on the memes and jokes can be hard to take. Honestly, I could leave or take the movies. The amount they leave out or outright change paired with the awkward cringe factor allows the books to far surpass the movies. I still find them an enjoyable watch don't get me wrong, but the movies leave out some pretty important character and relationship development. In the books, they really got to know one another and when through all the good and bad parts of a relationship. The movies fast-tracked everything and played up the problematic elements, leaving the context and growth out almost completely. Not to mention the world building and background stories of each character. Holy moly there is so much more to the world and the characters than whats shown in the movies.

Dang I'm actually interested in reading it now knowing the movies weren't the best adaptation of the book series Personally, when I first saw Twilight, I enjoyed it as much as the next movie but I did tend to stick away from trying to get into it much cuz at the time, as a kid, it seemed like it was more of... a 'girl's thing' that lots of girls were into Sucks that ppl hated on it just cuz it was the popular thing to do-- I definitely experienced a bit of that with other movies or shows that I enjoyed Weirdly enough, even now, the reactors were talking about the bad effects of the movie and everyone seems to talk about the cringe/awkwardness.... idk I must have a weird sensibility/tolerance, cuz I never really noticed the effects or cared(?) much about the awkwardness... it never seemed like a big deal to me, I suppose Anyways, it makes me wonder how a new, more faithful adaptation of the series would look Maybe someday!

Okay. Uhhh, it could be just me but... 1:02:42 Is she the author? The woman with a computer in a diner (common place for writers to work in) with her first name mentioned? Is that the author, whether its legit her or an actress?
