The free 1985 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 is home and I can't wait to get it started... but I'm not buying a $100 car battery for a free car. I don't have any 75 series batteries laying around either. So we're going to clean it out, see what is left, and try to get it started off a set of jumper cables!
------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s the gear and camera equipment I’m using!
Helmet: amzn.to/2zaSAAm
Gloves: amzn.to/2zbAIFH
Camera: amzn.to/2hS3PKy
Tripod: amzn.to/2hLX3Ta
---------------------------------------------------------------
Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Fury, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make KZfaq videos and work in enterprise data storage.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

I loved my '86 2M4, even with the quirky rear suspension and low powered 2.5. It was comfortable, cheap to fix and fun to drive. I'd own another in a heartbeat. I wish someone would give me one. With that much starting fluid, you probably dried out the cylinder walls and stuck the pistons. Put a small bit of oil and tranny fluid mix in the cylinders and let it sit a couple of days before trying to tow start it so the rings and pistons will have some lubrication. It will also help compression for starting. The fuel pump relay has a connection to the oil pressure sender. If the sender is bad or oil pressure is low, the fuel pump won't stay on. It is easy to test the fuel pump by simply running a jumper from power to the pump wire in the relay plug.

Almost got one of these at the auto auction , but went high than I was willing to , while looking it over , my son and I noticed a vaccuum line to the carb off , but it back on and the car started , so we took it off again , cars pulled through always sell cheaper lol . After auction the guy that got it came over and wanted to know if I wanted it for 50 bucks . Said he was only buying it for his wife to drive around . She was with him and looked kinda sad . So my son lifted the hood , put the vaccuum line back on . And the thing fired right up , the glee in that gitls eyes was priceless . She got her runabout and we got kisses lol .

Fuel-cap release: Sit in the drivers' seat. Look over your left shoulder, just behind the window, Little lever. Don't just pry it open. The front hood release is hidden too. It may be missing in yours though. But it is supposed to be directly below the far-left AC vent, almost flush with the bottom of the dash. Just look for two cables on the floor or something. One is the main hood release, the other is a back-up in case the main one breaks.

It was cranking real uneven with pops n hisses, not a good sign. I bought one years ago with a bad head gasket, a lot of people don’t know how to service the cooling system and many have been overheated (consider the engine is in the back and the radiator is up front AND lower than the engine). $6 NOID light from the parts store will show if injector is getting signal, sometimes you can pull them out and spray with carb cleaner to unstick it if there is signal and no spray, jumper wire in the relay plug to manually run the pump to see if it’s working. Gas tank is in the middle of the car (it’s the reason there is a transmission tunnel in the interior), you have to drop it to get to the pump, not too hard. The little 151 “Iron Duke” isn’t a power house but it’s pretty tough, it’s not an anvil however and can only stand so much mistreatment. These are quirky little cars, easy to work on (until you start pulling the engine) and fun to drive. Parts are cheap and if you can get it going, I think you’ll have fun with it.

So, I visited the Don Garlits racing museum yesterday and besides the collection of all the race cars, there is a building full of classic cars from Garlits personal collection. Amongst all these amazing old cars I was stunned to come across a Pontiac Fiero. I couldn't fathom why it was there at first until I read the little sign near it. Turns out it was an experiment done by a friend of his. They converted the power plant over into something called a, "hot vapor" engine which netted them over 50 mpg. Not insanely impressive by todays standards, but cool never the less.

Again I say.... All that fire crap was blown WAAAAY out of proportion. It was less than ONE percent of only the 84's. The main culprit was a batch of bad connecting rods, and a contributing factor was owners who didn't know how to properly maintain the coolant level, and who thought they had a Ferrari, and whooped the daylights out of that poor duke while the coolant was barely, or wasn't flowing.

their is a fuel pump relay in the back you can try directly running power into it to see if the fuel pump will run. if it does then you can run it to the fuse box to a hook up that only gets power when the key is turned on. I had to do that to the 1988 i had. not sure what was wrong with it but i had to hot wire the fuel pump to get it to work.

As a long time fiero owner and honda k series swap pioneer, I agree with what's been said in the comments. Ditch the Duke. The l67/l32 are great engines and really give the fiero a much needed power and reliability boost. However, the 3.8sc is HEAVY. My 88GT running a l67, GT4067 turbo and w2a intercooling was properly fast but you could just feel how upset the weight balance was. Now, I want the power I had with the turbo 3800 (500whp) but I want it to weigh less than the original 2.8v6. Shouldn't be a problem considering I pulled the complete k20 long block out of the trunk of my Fiesta by myself and walked it over to the engine stand. Try that with a 3800. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Check the ignition timing does the Fiero have a distributor? If the timing is to advance the motor will crank slow like that or if it's timed just completely wrong
@rwdplz1
@rwdplz1 5 жыл бұрын
ECU is under the center console, so is the ALDL connector if you want to check for codes, or short terminals A and B to set timing. That starter does NOT sound happy. Check for spark, I've replaced two of those coils now.

They make a coyote kit car out of these here in Texas. Sell it to them. They pay top dollar for fieros. Since you put fuel in and it didn't drain out, do you think someone would take the pump out and put the gas tank back in without a pump? I wouldn't. Varnish in tank probably has the pump locked up.

Oh man it was so close it sounds like it almost started. If you could figure out what locked up the engine... I had something similar happen to a car that was sitting a long time. Not sure what causes it to happen.
