Many of you know I listed my 1997 Lincoln Towncar Limousine on Craigslist while I was looking for some new 4 wheeled toys. A brake shop in KS called me one day and said "We saw your limo on Craigslist, we'd like to do Gambler 500 with it, would you be interested in coming?" I said I might (I've always wanted to do Gambler) and they offered to buy the car. They mentioned having Pontiac Fiero 2M4 that was bought with the same purpose and they didn't need it anymore. Well here we are! They bought the cheap limo for $500 and threw in the Fiero, a very very rough Fiero.

The Fiero was maybe the last Pontiac made inside the city limits of Pontiac. The plant was right next door to One Pontiac Plaza and once was the headquarters of the division. John Delorean was instrumental in building One Pontiac Plaza to be the division's new headquarters. Yet he was moved over to Chevrolet and never had a office at the Plaza.

I have an 84 2m4 auto in red. 110,000 miles. No clear coat failure. Also I have the same rims and you cannot find factory size tires for those. They’re all trailer tires, so if you wanted to keep those rims then you’ll have to go with 185/70r13. They’re about 4mph off. I’m driving mine threw the winter in south of Chicago so it is surely going to be fun. Enjoy your Fiero.

The Fiero and the MR2 (Original) were my favorite cars as a kid. They stopped making both by the time I was in high school, but every time I saw either I started drooling. Those two cars still hold a special place in my heart! Cool Video!

I had a Pontiac Fiero 2M4 in 1986. It was a decent car, EXCEPT, in the year and a half I had it, it was in the dealer shop 6 times for the same issue. Then, on the sixth time, they finally admitted that it was on a Lemon Law Recall List and I returned the car and got me another vehicle! Was a lot of fun to drive, well, except for the recurring issues!

My brother purchased a first year production Fiero as his first car. It was a pretty good car for the most part and he basically drove the wheels off of it in just over a year before being hit in the rear by a drunk driver totaling that Fiero. He then went out and purchased a new, late second year production Fiero and discovered it was a "garage baby"....It there was a heavy fog or it rained, even a light rain, the car leaked. It used oil at an incredible rate....And the electricals failed on a regular basis. He had to invoke the Lemon Law on that car before it was over with and has not owned a GM product since then.

Just remember, if you need parts, Chevy Citations (X body) are your drivetrain and rear suspension. I believe the front suspension is Chevette (T body). Be very careful with the body parts. They will be very brittle. Sadly, Pontiac would finally rectify all the problems in the last year of production.

You should have traded your 21' limousine for another 21' limousine, namely an early '30s Bugatti Royale. It weighed about 3175 kg (7000 lb). Ettore Bugatti planned to build 25 Royales. Unfortunately, the car was $43,000 in 1931 ($560,000 today), and even royalty couldn't afford that during the Great Depression. Only 6 were built, and only 3 of them were sold to customers. A 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Royale "Kellner" Sports Coupe sold for $9,760,000 at a Christie's auction in London in November 1987. The Bugatti Type 41, better known as the Royale, is a large luxury car built from 1927 to 1933 with a 4.3 m (169.3 in) wheelbase and 6.4 m (21 ft) overall length. It weighs approximately 3,175 kg (7,000 lb) and uses a 12.763 litre (778 cu in) straight-eight engine. For comparison, against the modern Rolls-Royce Phantom (produced from 2003 onward), the Royale is about 20% longer, and more than 25% heavier. This makes the Royale one of the largest cars in the world. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Royale Million Dollar Cars - Bugatti Royale kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p553fKaW3tydZac.html

Hi guys, love the videos, I'm a UK subscriber and I always loved the look of the fiero, and I'm not sure about the 4 cylinder but understand at least the V6's had a tendency to set on fire, it would be nice if you could verify this for me. Most car hear in the UK in that era tended to be a little bland to be honest, unlike with a lot of your cars in the US.

*i've had 3 fieros back about 2005 - 2007 i had an 85,86,& an 87. All of them were the 2M4 there are remarkably sttill a lot of parts floating around for them and that iron duke is rock solid in those things. never had a minutes problem out of any of mine and they were a blast to drive. and yeah ours got confused with ferrari's and all different manner of other sports cars that looked nothing like that. never heard DeLorean though thats a new one. Want a funny image? iam 6'5" tall and i had to fold up pretty much in half to fit in the fieros but once i was in i was good. getting out was the chore. i had to roll out of it and stand up as i was rolling or fall flat out on the ground on my back. but i loved driving those little suckers bought our first one from DC then the second one from Oklahoma City. and the 3rd one from BFE ohio. i would like another one but this time to modify. i'd like a GT and drop that Anemic 2.8 out and get the adapters to put in an LS THAT would be a hot little ride at that point*

Only issue with that 2.5L Iron Duke engine is the fiber timing gears are a known weak point on these. If you beat the shit out of this engine, revving it to it's limits, that gear can sheer off teeth. The gear is hard to replace but even if timing goes off, no damage happens because of this engine being non-interference. It honestly probably runs fine, this was a very dependable engine, but gutless at 92HP when new. Also, the red line is 4400RPM, so it's a very low revving engine. I own and drive 4 cars with this exact engine setup, no differences at all, and they're gutless, and they always sound like they're in pain, but they go go and go

Hell yes! A FIero! And a "notchie" to boot! Here is some important info if you are new to a Fiero... Did you say it was an 84? If that's the case, that's not a 5-speed. (Unless it had been modded) 84's came with either the 3-speed auto or 4-speed manual. And no you won't see bare metal on the roof. That's similar to fiberglass. The body is made of glass reinforced, SMC (Sheet-molded-compound) and RIM (reaction-injection-molded) urethane panels. The soft, lower door-skins and bumpers are the RIM Uretane While the rigid bits are SMC. All of which are bolted to a full space-frame of steel. There is no metal in the exterior body except for the two cast aluminum panels that are missing on yours. I also think the decklid on yours has been swapped. 84's have a center grille above the engine and the panels to the sides are solid. IF you do fix this up, be sure to get the slotted side panels. That engine needs to breathe. Those shiny trim pieces aft of the side windows are glass, even though they don't go into the interior at all. Don't pry on them. Finally look inside the rear decklid for a small sticker about one by 2 inches, and/or a plaque about 4 by 8 inches that might be just ahead of the shifter. It looks like this. (link) ↓ gafieroclub.org/pics/misc/fireplk.jpg Or even a updated manual or additional service manual. This is evidence that this car was in the recall and has been fixed. You may even be able to look up the VIN and tell if it was in the recall. If these are not present, DO NOT abuse or drastically over-rev that duke! A few of the 84's had bad connecting rods that would let go under heavy load. (with other contributing factors). NOT saying yours has bad con-rods, but it's a slim possibility. Plus you can not just dump coolant in and go. There is a particular fill procedure to "burp" the air out of the system. Since the radiator lines run under the doors (seriously watch where you put a jack!) air can get trapped in there and cause the car to overheat and fry the engine. I'll outline that below. Improper coolant filling, bad con-rods and abuse caused the drastically overhyped, engine fires in less than 1% of the 84's. (no sir. they are NOT deathtraps! They were owned by morons who beat them. It like your EXP. Basically a sporty looking economy car. 1 Open the radiator cap (front) 2 Open the thermostat housing cap and pull the thermostat out. (rear, on engine) 3 Fill through the t-stat housing until coolant begins to appear at the radiator. 4 put the t-stat back in, and close it all up. 5 Run it for about 10 minutes or until warm. 6 Let it cool and open the radiator cap and thermostat housing cap. 7 top it all off again and repeat 4 and 5 (maybe up to 3 times) 8- After the rad is full, only open and add coolant to the t-stat cap until the system is full. 9 maintain coolant level at the thermostat housing cap. If you have any doubts, check the Fiero clubs on facebook. In fact, Please do check them! The best one is a group called "Fiero" run by Matt Snell and Matt Bach. Group link: facebook.com/groups/2204429635/ I suggest joining it and asking about any concerns or questions you have about it there. Plus they can locate and sometimes sell you any part you may need, and put you in touch with companies that make aftermarket parts and upgrades etc. There is also "Midwest Fieros" closer to your area. P.S. I own an 84 Fiero 2M4 SE, 151 cid (2.5liter) "Iron Duke" with a 4-speed manual. And I love the darn thing!

OH! A few other things that get missed: The park brake. It pulls up and will drop back down. That's not a malfunction. To release it, just pull up, HOLD the button until the lever is back down again. The front hood (Frunk) release is quite hidden.. It seems yours doesn't latch so you might have not had to find this... See the air-duct nearest the drivers door? Feel under it and there's a handle. ...AND The fuel cap release. Sitting in the drivers' seat, look over your left shoulder... There it is.. ☺ Yeah it's an odd car.. But totally enjoyable!

You would love a gen 1 MR2 SOOOO much more. Fieros were nice looking, but shit underpinnings. Only in '88 did the reality meet the dream, where GM promptly cancelled it in their infinite stupidity. '84 or '85 (I can't remember now) and an '87 prior owner.
@Cammi_Rosalie
@Cammi_Rosalie 5 жыл бұрын
@@goofyleo3869 GM cancelled the Fiero after the 88 model. You are right. Pontiac did finally pull it together after 87. In the 80's when few were getting anything right, trying to go smaller and "greener" and friggin' metric bullshit.. Few cars showed real promise while doing it. Fiero was one of them. They will feed you the bullshit about "Fires burning them all up" and "Dismal sales, " Both are horseshit. The fires happened in less that 1% of the 84's due to the reason I mentioned above, with the coolant and a bad batch of rods. The sales figures DID go down a bit but not drastic enough to kill the line. Nah.. According to someone I talked to, a former worker in the Pontiac Michigan plant, Here's what really happened... The 89-90 Fiero prototype was put to the test track. Have a look. www.fiero.nl/uploads/DSC00006.JPG and www.fiero.nl/uploads/DSC00004.JPG Looks familiar huh? Yeah, the 90's TransAm, Fierbird and Camaro took their styling from this. The Fiero had a bigger v6, twin turbo, much more power, even better suspension, vastly improved drive-train.. Yeah They got it all together with the 89-90. It surpassed the numbers of the big-daddy bad-ass muscle of GM at the time, the Corvette. The 'vette guys were like "Nope! No little mid-engine Pontiac is going to de-throne the Corvette as top dog." And the guys in charge who controlled the money anyway, easily agreed. So The prototypes were crushed (most of them, a few managed to get out.) and the Fiero line was ended to preserve the status of the Corvette. I love the Vette, by the way, But it's a shitshow that it had to go like that. Ever since then, the Pontiac line was neutered. Just left with the Grand-ma and Grand-pa(Prix) Until The Pricks at the top beheaded the whole line. along with Buick and Olds. We got Saturn.. the inbred rape-baby of the company, instead.

My next door neighbor was one of the designer’s of the Fiero! Looked great terrible handling! We had one of the new ones! I heard one of the later ones were better! My mom went spinning round and round on the icy roads and that car was sold quickly. I lived in MI ad if you hit snow or ice just stick your head between your legs and kiss your butt goodbye! Sorry for being descriptive the fiero was terrible!

Looks like an 85 base coupe or sport coupe, fifth digit in the VIN will tell you the model, E for base or M for sport. Those 13" wheels are rare (but not desirable).

The 5 triangle 'swirl' rims off an 80's Grand Am is a good-looking upgrade, if you can find them. An added bonus; the rumor is they make a sound while spinning that scare away deer. Bodyshop guy back in the day said he never had a car with those rims come in with deer damage. Just my $.02.

The first thing that tells me it’s an 85 is that the engine compartment doesn’t have the large center metal grill. Just on the sides. 85s have that hump. I much prefer the 84 over all other years.

Good luck. I love mid-engine cars but this is the worst one made. I've owned the 4cyl and V6 GT and they are both JUNK. Only thing worth keeping are the seats with the speakers in the headrests. I saved the driver side from my last one and turned it into a game-chair about 15yrs ago. Still have my MR2, X1/9 and 914, however; no more Fieros for me.
