Great content! It really explains why I have been telling people for years to split the case and clean it properly versus flushing it out.

Good luck! If you have any mechanical experience, engine rebuilding isn't that difficult. The proper shop manual and a few specialty tools and you're good to go. The only big issue is if the cylinders and or block are damaged.

I like me a good dip now and then! The best part is all the extra wear is from the Polaris Tech telling me to run it to let oil warm up and then before changing each time-but the damage was already done just made it worse

Hey question. I have a 2021 850 and was in a puddle a bit too deep today, i was able to actually back out of it but once out i could tell it was running rougher and sounded different. I stopped it on a hill and pulled the belt housing plug and some water came out then i checked the air box and it had not gotten water into it luckily. I let it sit for a bit and then went to start it and it would run rough then die. I eventually got it to stay running and then drove it in low and then after a bit of riding it would run very similar to normal. Do u think that all was related to the belt being wet ? Since the airbox and filter wer dry and all i would hope no water got into the engine but with it running rough i am nervous. Any idea why it would act like that
@ADVENTURESThisWay
@ADVENTURESThisWay 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrMythingy1 it’s likely one of the spark plugs was wet, causing to run poorly. Could be other things but that would be a good starting point.. some dielectric grease on the plug boot will stop that from happening again

@@rogerfuller7876 no I’ve never had any starting issues ever. And I had original battery. My starter is completely covered in a hardened rubber. Seals it very well. I have heard many people with starter issues unfortunately, it would be frustrating ☹️

@@ADVENTURESThisWay I just take a wood handle wire brush the best I can and it starts right up. I also need that inline fuse before the box. Gonna miss seeing a Polaris on your channel. If you become unhappy with Can am you should look into a 16 450 sportsman. Just a flash and it’s a 570. Can run 27’s with factory suspension.

I got a little water in my engine, I kept cranking it, eventually it slowly idled to running speed. Should I worry about anything? It runs completely fine but I don’t know if there’s any other problems like water in oil or anything

You got water in the air intake? Is it a Polaris Twin engine? Yes you should be concerned, did you check the oil condition?

Great breakdown of the engine. night to know.. but something i feel you didnt touch on enough. so i tipped my quad in the water. belt box had less then a cup of water. air box nothing. but my exhaust was filled and i had to remove plug, tip the quad drain the exhaust. etc etc . not i have milky oil. according to your video my only option is take it all apart. i watched your video twice. now. just to make sure i did not miss anything. you say people do this and people do that. but then you went into a long thing about your engine. you said you road on it then it stopped. mine was towed and pushed into my garage and only thing i did was after draining exhaust and plulling plug was run mine for 5 mins to heat it up and burn out rest of water in exhaust. im finding a bunch of info about just change oil a few times but as a fellow polaris owner you know thats expensive. is there any alternatives. you would reccomend?
@ADVENTURESThisWay
@ADVENTURESThisWay Жыл бұрын
The real issueis the engine is a monoblock. If there is damage to the case, you are screwed. With other engine styles you can purchase new cylinders, monoblock need a whole new engine case. The best course of action is to disassemble the engine and clean it.

@@ADVENTURESThisWay just seems a bit excessive for a engine that has its 1st lil bit of water in it. all the stuff i can find. seems just changing the oil a couple times till it goes away with some sea foam added may be best solution for now. im surprised this isnt alot of information on this topic. aside from people with honda's LOL

@aubreygagnon78 you asked, I told you, do what you think is best or easiest...water definitely got into one of the cylinders through the exhaust valve. Spend a few hundred dollars and some labour now or spend thousands later. A Honda or Can Am send it...

@@ADVENTURESThisWay yeah . i finally found some more info on the topic. i ordered enough supplies to do 4 oil changes to it and going with using seafaom as a mild engine flush. that polaris oil isn't cheap lol. btw its a 450 ho eps. @@ADVENTURESThisWay water was reaching the intake, so I cut off the engine like I should, but buddy was having trouble winching me out, and I felt “pretty sure” my intake was well enough above water at that point, so tried turning it over to assist, but it just cycled without starting, then just stopped turning over. Just click/clunk. So it wasn’t high rpm, just as much as the starter would give it. But pretty sure it sucked some water in and tailpipe probably took a drink too. Towed it back out and actually tried to turn it over after that and it turned, but I didn’t push my luck. Need to start pulling it apart and draining things tonight. Just expecting the worst.
