I stalled a check valve in my drain hose. Also, I replaced the fittings with stainless because the plastic ones kept coming loose. I made the mod mostly to keep water from going into the bilge access hatch not really about the plug cavities.

I wonder if a reed valve would be good to have on that drain hole?.. where the water only goes one way.

Thank you Jeff. I had the same question, but now feel better about it. Do you have any recommendations for fixing seat fabric? It is coming apart at the seams of the engine bay lift gate. Thank you sir for your time.

He Jeff question have an sx230 what happens if one of those pop out while driving the boat can it cause major damage?

No major damage to the pump or engine. But maybe it could crack or dent your clean out hatch lid. Remember the plug is located before the impeller so depending on what speed you are at(water being forced into the pump) will determine how much force is going to shoot the plug up. Typically, nothing bad happens unless you are at max speed (50mph) and the plug pops out.

Hey there Jeff..quick question. Do you have support blocks in the clean out plug area to support the hatch from breaking?

No I do not. We run a 750 pound ballast bag on it too. But I can tell you these AR/SX 230 models are known for the clean out hatches to get soft spots on them. I rebuilt mine do to a soft sport and have a whole video series on it too. If you hatch is in good standing condition, you do not need to support it with anything.

Hi Jeff, new to your channel. I have a new to me 2007 Sx230. I always have water in my ski locker. When plug is out in the locker compartment I can actually see water bubbling in. When I take boat out of the water and pull the plug I have a lot of water that drains out. confused on all the plugs in engine bay and locker. I get there will be some water from passengers getting in and out of boat, but not as much as I seem to have. Do you experience this? Normal? Thanks

Stuck clean out plugs that haven't been removed in a long time are a common problem with yamaha jet boats. There are tons of videos on how to remove a stuck plug.

@@JeffDoesThis I applied marine grease to the side 360 degrees of the plug to make it smoother and easier to remove.

Hello Jeff. I just bought my uncles 2007 ar230 with only 5 hours on it. So I took it out on the lake for about 5 hours. When i took the drain plug out alot of water came out and I have very little in the middle of the engine compartment. Any advice for me. Thanks in advance.

I would bet your scupper valve has a crack and is leaking(very common). On the trailer, open your clean out hatch and unscrew the plastic access ports and drop a garden hose down there and start filling it with water. Make sure to tilt your trailer up to max height in the front and watch out back for water to run out.

It won't drain when the boat is in the water. That's the water line.

Hi i have an 2017 sx190 and igot an issue past weeknd, my boat starts taking in water to the engine compartment really bad while moving (driving) as soon as i stop the boat it stops taking in water. While being anchor not water takes in. Any idea what i have to look for? Thanks in advance

Dealing with the same issue yesterday. Looking at whether the seals on the clean-out ports are weak and allow water to come in while travelling at higher speeds. Another thing that I was told is that it could be the scupper valve. :(

When the switch is on it will activate the bilge pump every 5 minutes and if the pump senses a load(water) it will run until the water has been pumped out and the load is no longer on the pump. So yes, it's kind of automatic and yes you should turn it on if you keep your boat in the water overnight and will pump the water out. Also I have left my boat in the water for 3 days and didn't use it and it did not drain the battery.

Yes, to both, you have to have the battery on to supply electricity for the bilge pump And then you have to also turn the bilge pum on.

@@JeffDoesThis have you ever done any sort of comparison of the 2? My family and I just bought a 2021 AR195 and that thing is very hard to steer at low speeds. So I've been trying to do research on which one I should purchase for better low speed handling.

No I have not done a comparison. Just give it time and the boat will be easier to drive. Think about the first time you had sex, you probably sucked at it and over the years you got better(hopefully). Just like anything, waterskiing, wakeboarding and driving a boat with a different drive system it takes a minute to get use to it. After a full season you will become a pro.
