The main reason I watch your wonderful tutorials is not so much for the subject matter, but for your "pearls of wisdom". Tony Couch also said to "paint it as dark as you want the first time", but that is easier said than done. The advice about using a light touch is something I must remember more often to avoid disturbing layers. For payne's grey vs. neutral tint, if they are made with PB15 (thalo blue), the pigment will stain. BTW, we just spent some time in Canada - St. Anthony, Cornerbrook, and Sydney. The Emporium in Sydney harbor had many handmade items by local artisans. It is a beautiful country, and the citizens are so polite and welcoming. My husband says when he grows up, he wants to be Canadian! 😍

From Waterloo, Ontario. This is lovely, so inspiring and instructive. I’ve been a bit scared of reflection on water but will certainly give it a try now. Thanks again for your generosity.

So glad I stumbled across you here, Shelley. I've watched a few of your vids and they are the best on here. No they really are- watching has made me able to flex my watercolour muscles properly again at last. (I got back to wcolour last year after not doing any painting at all for over 20 years.) I am now a HUGE fan.

Oh, I am from St John’s, the island of Newfoundland, which is a province of Canada. We are a relative newbie. We joined Canada in 1949. Before that we were at Dominion a Canada that went broke. 😅This is my first time commenting, even though I saw one of your other videos. I really liked that video and so I am now looking forward to seeing some more.

Hello from Australia. I’m wondering if this tutorial could also be used as a guide for painting dappled light under trees or do you have another tutorial for that technique? I am a newby to watercolour and loving your teaching. Thank you so much
@shelleypriorfineart
@shelleypriorfineart 4 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. Dappled light is similar although shadows are different than reflections. They would be in tree trunks and branches as well as on the leaves themselves. Unlike reflections, shadows will be softer and not the colour of the casting object but a darker version of the surface colour. For example, a green tree doesn’t make green shadows on rock but it would be a darker version of the rock itself. It would also follow the form of the rock. Think of how snow shadows fall across a road - they go up over the snow bank at the edge and then straight across the road and over the next bank again. They are not just flat.
