One of the St Helena Cloud Forest Project’s goals is to link priorities for restoration of biodiversity, with priorities for rain and mist capture.
The principal source of the islands water supply is from mist and rainfall recharge, in the Peaks.
With up to 60% of the freshwater on St Helena estimated to come from mist capture, and with endemic vegetation proving far more effective at this task than invasive species, like flax, it is clear how important the restoration of biodiversity is to improving water security.
This film highlights some of the Project work underway, in early 2022.
