To The Top Crane
In this video, I use our Tadano 180g-5 to remove an out of service water tower. The tower was 120 feet tall and had a diameter of approximately 8 feet. The tower sections weighed approximately 20,000 pounds each.
The crane was configured with 79,000 pounds of counterweight, 158 feet of main boom length, full span outriggers and both winches.
I had to use the main and auxiliary winches together in order to lay the pieces on a truck for disposal.

I've been running an NBT 45 boom truck for a year now. Still an amateur, but I've learned a lot. If I have to wait more than a few minutes, I use my function lock out switch so I know I won't bump anything while cleaning the cab or something. Sure, I can't react quite as fast, but it's insurance the way I see it.

Nicely done Jimmy! Very smooth on the first pick. I understand your concerns with demolition work. I have removed quite a few trees over the year (with out a crane), and dynamic loads can break things in a hurry. Ron

Many thanks for watching! It got pretty slimy, pretty fast. I'm glad it froze overnight. Otherwise, it would've been a disaster trying to get the crane out of there.

This is maybe a stupid question, but can't you wedge the thing with some small wood wedges and take like 10% to 20% less weight of the structure? You could tape the wedges to the structure, so that they don't fall once you do lift it. I'm not a expert in either craning or higher construction. I usually just did stuff up to 10m/30ft and with weights, which you could handle without cranes if it was needed. And Wedges and ratchet straps and everything like it were our best friends.
@stevespence7608

Nice job. As you said, demo work can be very hazardous due to the unknown weights and center of gravity of items to be removed. You may have pointed out the fact objects being lifted in a horizontal position with two lines are very resistant to being rotated out of line with the boom, as when you were lowering onto the trailer. There is some advantage having long boom deployed with long hoist lines. I'm looking forward to sharing the seat with you again...brings back memories.

When the water towers are in use is there only water in the top part of it? Did this get hauled in for scrap or were they going to do something else with it? Nice to see a video again. Missed the livestream the other night. I might watch that one tonight.

Hey there I have a question.. when you have to setup on very un level ground and the outriggers don't have enough stroke even when you've put all the cribbing you can under them when they are fully retracted how do you get it higher? I've seen pictures of it done but I don't know the technique. Thanks

It's not good practice using the 2 hoist together when lowering the tube cause the angle and pressure on the single fall Is big.
