If you are a beginning artist and doubt that you can paint these motifs, I want you to know, they are easier than they look. Each of these illustrations is made up of several simple steps that when combined result in an image that looks more complicated than it is. I have never done watercolor and have been watching tons of you tube videos in the past month. I found you tonight. I truly enjoyed your video! I have not seen tube watercolor paints previously. Do you need to mix these paints with water or do you use them straight out of the tube? TIA for your help

Hello, Cheryl! Welcome to the channel. Excellent question. Watercolor tube paints are meant to be mixed with water. The amount of water used will determine the transparency & flow properties of the paints. Ideally, squeezing small amounts onto a palette and allowing to dry overnight first is the best way. In a pinch, I will sometimes squeeze tiny amounts out and use (with water) immediately, but it's easy to get too much when it's in this ultra creamy state and that causes waste. GREAT illustrations. What did you use as a reference for the artwork? Did you use real objects (like a real mug/ 3d tree) and draw from real Life? Or Did you use photos and 2d images as a source to draw from? Many thanks

Thank you so much. Actually, I did not use any references. I've painted these kinds of items for years, so they are kind of a bunch of things from memory. I guess maybe the mug is a simple version of one I have though. I didn't really look at it while painting, it's just one of my favorites, so that probably influenced me. But, by all means, painting from references is a great way to do it! I do use references often, I just didn't for this particular lesson.

Do I have to use Watercolor paper? I plan to try your designs since you make it seem as if I actually can do it.

If you are painting with watercolors, then yes. Other papers may not absorb the pigment well. These could also be painted with acrylic. In that case, any sturdy paper would work. I’m sure they’ll turn out beautiful! I want to paint more this week with different designs. If I can make that happen I’ll post pics in the community to give a few more ideas. Thanks for watching! 😃

Many thanks for your speedy reply. I do have acrylic paint as well as water color. I have regular blank card stock so I'll give it a try. I imagine I won't get your lovely blending as easily. I'll probably order some watercolor paper anyway. I'll look for your new designs. I loved your teddy bear stocking, Happy Thanksgiving! P.S. Could you include a parcel or package motif?
