Watercolor Rock Tower Demo with Daniel Smith Graphite Gray: Join me as I paint in real time a rock tower using Silver Brush Limited Ruby Satin brushes featuring Daniel Smith Graphite Gray Watercolor. These versatile brushes and unique color made this painting enjoyable and gave it a flow all its own. The Graphite Gray has an interesting dry shift, drying lighter than it appears wet, and transforming into a matte yet not chalky finish. This color paired well with another matte color, Lunar Earth, and chalky dull-lightful Raw Sienna. In the end this painting was full of a variety of exciting color blends, textures, granulation, and finishes.

Note: this rock cairn was built at a rock supply yard and not in nature. In the wilderness we are instructed to leave any existing rock towers alone, as they often are built as markers to trails for navigation, not to add to or take away from. Building decorative towers while meditative and an artform in itself it should be practiced on your own property. Please keep in mind wilderness ethics, here is a great article regarding "leave no trace."

Her way of putting small plates not a pallet reminded me to mix color on paper not in the pallet! It was wonderful to see this tape after more than 3 months of not doing at all, gave me a motivation of doing it again, to paint. It’ll be fun! Fun again! Thank you.

Hey Buffy, I wanted to come on here to say I just watched your Daniel Smith demo and I was so surprised and excited to see you as a featured artist. It was actually one of my favourites because you got to demonstrate your talent, your kindness and your beautiful vulnerability to a different audience. I’m so happy for you

Missed catching up with your channel, so was so happy to see you on my watch list tonight. Been busy moving and have yet to unpack my painting supplies. Did however manage to pick up some more paints, brushes and paper. Oops didn't need any but what's a girl to do when they are on special. Actually picked up my first sticks of DS and W&N that were on clearance so was glad to see one way of using them. As usual an absolutely brilliant piece!

It was an enjoyable and relaxing watch, thank you Buffy💞 I have a great love of the outdoors and live in a very interesting area in New Zealand where beautiful schist rock and big tussocks dominate the vast landscape just half an hour away in one direction, and I have limestone and some very interesting volcanic formations at my nearby beach. I'm fairly newly retired, new to art, but for decades have harboured a yearning to learn watercolour and paint what has fed my soul throughout my life. I have a wee haul of Daniel Smith Mineral Marvel paints currently winging its way across the world to me 😃 Dot cards are such a wonderful resource for us newbies😃 I have a few tubes already - my favourites being Sodalite Genuine and Hematite Burnt Scarlet Genuine. Among others in my coming order is Sugilite - a very sparkly mineral paint which will be great for painting schist & river rocks. Why do you think your rocks appeared quite matt - was it the colours you used or the paper, maybe? I'm so glad your video popped up on my youtube homepage tonight👍 I'm going to explore your channel now - thanks again, Buffy💞

You will love the Mineral Marvel paints, a perfect way to get to know which colors you prefer, here is another video I did using that set: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNaEoNKQm77Fnas.html

The Graphite Gray color caused it to be matte, a really cool color to play with, shiny wet and then dries matte. Really fun

Thank you so much for what you do I totally enjoy every one of your videos I’ve watched. I am also a watercolorist and I’m wondering what type of board do you use when you paint?
@watercolorpour
@watercolorpour 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Sheba, I use the Artboard by Robax.com - it’s under their palettes section, scroll all the way to the bottom, expensive but will last

Buffy, where do you get the containers for your watercolors and the containers you use to hold them?
@watercolorpour
@watercolorpour 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim, the containers were made by Sawyer Ceramics and the muffin tin they are sitting in is a discontinued metal muffin tin palette by @cheapjoes - You can pick your own by finding a muffin tin to use or there is a similar muffin tin palette offered by Jack Richeson and other containers similar that are listed on my Amazon Art Page, here is the link: www.amazon.com/shop/watercolorpour -(the empty Richeson palette is offered at other sites) - hope this helps!

I was wondering how you feel about the graphite gray, now that you’ve had the chance to use it for awhile? It does look cool, but I’m on a money diet for awhile and wasn’t going to make a purchase till I heard what you thought…many thanks, Mary

Good Morning Mary, it is a specialty color in my opinion, meaning I will use it on occasion when I want a matte finish but do not use it regularly. A very cool color if you like variation in texture and finish, but if you are a more traditional painter you might not use as much. Hope this helps.
