This nearly-completed piece is a commission,& as It neared completion, it struck me that the final stages would make a great demonstration of just how much the use of shadows can add drama, dynamics and really help to impart a sense of light to a painting.
I mention the colours I used for the shadow colour in my commentary: the paint is all Daniel Smith, and the paper is 300g Saunders Waterford rough. The subject is a street in the Yorkshire Dales village of Appletreewick - oddly enough, pronounced ‘ Aptrick’ by the locals.
