Great review! I just put down a deposit on a 2018 rxtx and a 2018 GTX 155 (for the wife) and yes I got the sound system on both machines. I can definitely say this review helped persuade me to take a look at seadoo when I was initially leaning towards Yamaha. Once I saw this machine in person i instantly went gaga over it. Thanks for doing this!

Good job Kevin, I enjoyed watching and learning. I'm a Seadoo'er at heart, just can't beat the dependability and fuel of the yamaha for now. I'll be glad to get back to the Seadoo, maybe this model will do it. I'll have to wait a year. I know never to purchase year one of a new model. I did that with a RXT in 2010. It had a lot of manufacturing issues.

That's probably a smart policy. Also, keep an eye out because it is VERY likely Sea-Doo will be dramatically increasing the size of its fuel tank in the next couple of years. We'll have a feature article on that coming soon.

I rode one of these yesterday. I was quite excited to see the new version rxt x and what it can do. I must say I was pretty disappointed, my favourite ski for the past 2 years and still is the 2016 rxt x 300. S3 hull felt better, didn’t like the new dimensions , and my favourite feature on these ski’s are the ergo lock. I have never slipped out / off of a 2016 300 and I came of twice in the 2018 model in 15min. Torque felt less on the 2018 but in saying that it still clicked over very fast. Usually theirs the rear handlebar on the seat which is what I use to get back on the ski, the passenger handlebars don’t wrap around, they are on either side and nothing behind. And the leather strap on the seat is so far forward that I couldn’t reach it. I thought that was silly. All the storage features are fantastic but if I were to walk in to a dealer and by a brand new 3 seater. I’d be trying to get a 2016/17 300 rxt. Good luck guys.

Hey Kevin nice video. Question for you. I’m liking what they have done but have to question lowering the seat. I know skis years ago along with snowmobiles were lower and would pound your knees a lot more then the newer skis/sleds. Did you notice any discomfort from being lower or was there really no difference? Is the seat height comparable to to older seadoos?
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
Funny you ask. I literally took a GTX Limited 300 out in some really rough, windblown water today and it really behaved well. Impressively, actually. The seat AND footwells were lowered, so the height between the two has remained more or less the same (ie. your knees are not up in your chest or anything).

Great video. We bought this ski and the Yamaha FX cruiser a couple months ago brand new. On our first day out we noticed that turning to the left on the SeaDoo was wide and almost dangerous in that it took so long to make the turn. Turning to the right was on a dime. The dealer finally acknowledged the problem but is saying that BRP says that based on the photos they sent after dismanteling the hull it's normal yet when we watch the videos online clearly the machine can turn on a dime in both directions. It's now become a safety issue for us and we refuse to take it out on the water like this. Just checking if you ntoiced anything similar in your review. Can't say I'd recommend SeaDoo after having it tied up at the dealer for two weeks and no resolution.
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
This is the first we've ever heard of an issue. No, we have zero problems with our '18 RXT-X 300 test unit in this manner. I strongly suggest circumventing your dealer and contacting Sea-Doo's customer service dept. directly and making a BIG stink. You'll find BRP very motivated in wanting to keep the word of mouth positive on their new craft.
@laurieroddy6 жыл бұрын
Watercraft Journal They are now saying ts due to pump design and refuse to work further on it. They tried to also say in the video we sent had we been at full throttle it would have worked but thrown us off. We videoed at equal speeds in both turns and a huge difference is seen. Dealer originally agreed too and tested it and said there was definitely a problem but now everyone including dealer is saying its normal . We are so upset as its a major safety issue. Our yamaha turns equally in both directions but this model takes forever to go left. Very disappointed. It's brand new.
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
Again, circumvent the dealer completely. Call BRP directly at: www.sea-doo.com/shop/customer-service.html And let them know that you will upload the video, the terrible experience you had with their dealer and any other bad news you can online.
@laurieroddy6 жыл бұрын
We have. BRP told the dealer it is totally normal. Insane. If you ever are out on yours again and can capture footage of you cutting right and cutting left we'd sure appreciate it. Seems like until we have proof that other machines operate differently we are out of luck with them. Very disappointing.

Then simply let them know how truly disappointed you are and that you will be publishing your experience online on all the major forums and social media sites. Squeaky wheels get grease.

How is the ST3 hull in choppy waves compared to the FX hull? Which is smoother?
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
Our experience with the ST3 is a mixed bag. One of the most comfortable cockpits to date, but we find a lot of "hunting" or bow steering in heavy chop. It's a fantastic lake or river ski, but in open ocean it tends to be unpredictable. We like the central storage, but not at the cost of a useful glovebox. Little parallels like that. Frankly, the RIVA sponsons radically improve the ST3 hull's all-around behavior.
@jeffg66356 жыл бұрын
Since you have ridden both the Sea Doo RTX-X 300 and Yamaha FXSVHO - Would you buy the RXT-X300 over the FX SVHO if you were looking for a PWC? I'm looking for the acceleration, towing wake boarders etc and overall great reliability.

If you're looking for great reliability, get a naturally aspirated ski - the Wake 155 or FX HO are good options.

@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
That is a very good observation, Robin. The units we tested were "fully loaded" and did include Cruise control. Now, according to Sea-Doo's website, Cruise is not listed as a standard feature, yet weirdly, is not listed as an option. So we'll reach out to Sea-Doo today and double back with an answer.

Of course, BRP is going to recommend using strictly XPS oil (because they own it). We've been told that full synthetics actually allow too much slippage with the supercharger clutches, but we've yet to verify this with any definitive data.

Kevin RXT X or GTX 230 or 300? Whats your favorite. Also does Yamaha have anything you would consider equal to or better? I'm trying to decide what to buy. Thanks.
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
I'll always pick a 300 over 230 because I love burning dinosaur bones. I'm kinda torn between the GTX Limited and the RXT-X, because the T-X has launch control and the foot wedges, but the Limited comes with the sound system, storage organizer and USB plug standard, which are MUSTS.
@alexwencel37196 жыл бұрын
Kevin, Am I correct that both the 300 and 230 achieve the same top end but the 230 might take a few seconds longer? Moreover with two up riding I assume the torque output on the 300 would allow achieving its top speed whereas the 230 may come up short. So I'm leaning towards the 300. What's your take on comparing the performance of SeaDoo's 300 v.s. Yamahas 260 hp SVHO? Dinobone Burner might be a good name for a race boat or my new ski. Thanks.

It all depends on your riding preferences. It's like asking me what kind of shoes you should buy. It all depends on your intended usage. Maybe this is a market Riva and other aftermarket companies can touch on Similarly on the older Seadoo's with suspension implemented seats. Possibly brands can incorporate adjustable seats on PWC?!

very nice watercraft i love the new design , im owner rxt x 260 rs year 2011 and in my opinion there is two big problem in that new rxt : (1) the first one and biggest problem the handlerbar integrated to the trunk , fixed by two screws in the front simply screw without screw nut , and two plastic hangs right and left simply screws by three screws and without any screw nut !!!! so if on an old rxt 260 the screws of trunk go away , and need to add new in inox with screw nut , so what's about a 300 new generation more powerfull and with a handlebar integrated ! perfect to drive slowly on a lac , but to use it on waves do some jumps , or speed in sea or extrem drive in extrem situation waves wind ....... i think we will have some nice surprises ... (2) Second problem , after every launching ( salt sea ) we should wash it out and inside with clear water , right ? clean the engine and put lubricant ! My question is how to do it perfectly without take off the flatform ? that platform let a small space without any acces to the back and the most important place where to clean and do lubricant ! So we should everytime remove all the scraws and they are about 10 if isn't more . it's embarassing and with the time the salt ect remove reset remove rest they will deteriorate , the platfom will be badly fixed and the chairs too and it will infiltration ! why they doesn't done the same chair as the rxp .... Very sad that inginners doen't think about it , a beauty and powerfull machine as that rxt 300 and after all these years of experience with rxt 260 since 2010 with all the problems happened , i can't understand .....

How many new cars are less than $16K? A KIA? Yeah maybe.
@dirtbiker22026 жыл бұрын
thats true, but 16k for a pwc seems insane we have a 89 yamaha wave blaster wrapped and swapped for a 1200cc 3 cylinder for like 6k and thats the most fun you will ever have on a pwc. it might blow your ears out but its still fun as hell

They keep making it harder and harder to fill my ski in the garage with cans. Balancing a can while on a ladder is getting old
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
Not to be glib, but maybe don't fill it while inside the garage.
@allaroundgoodtimes6 жыл бұрын
i mean fuel from the station is $3 while on the lake is $5. I save $30 every time i fill my tank and sometimes its even two tanks a day
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
Oh I get it. Save where you can, but maybe consider filling your ski (when it's on the trailer) on the driveway instead of inside of the garage, that's all. :)

use a hand pump, or a battery powered one, if the hose is long enough, you can you leave the gas can on the ground.

Don't get me wrong it's a nice machine but ... a tow pillion isn't useful on a 2 seater ski ... in NJ you need an operator, spotter, and a spot for the person being towed ...

@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
Sorta. Sea-Doo had those big, one-piece hinged seats for a decade, so the change is notable. But yeah, two-pieces seats aren't anything revolutionary.

@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
When you consider that the JL Audio system for the FX Yamaha is $2,200, and the Kawasaki Jetsounds system is only available on their $18K ($1,700 more than its next-up JetSki), Sea-Doo asking $700 for the only Bluetooth-compatible sound system is quite impressive.

700 is extremely well priced compared to what it could be. when youre already spending 16k on a machine whats another 700?

How do you know? A day after I filmed this, I literally handed James Bushell the lanyard to this exact ski and let him take it around Body Beach's buoy course. He came back saying it was better than the RXP-X 300.

Wow.... Here's a question for all you Sea Doo owners... How are you supposed to repair the hull/deck cosmetically? The reason I ask is because it's NOT GELCOAT!! It's ACRYLIC!! So who do you call for custom color matched Acrylic BRP?? Good luck with that!!!
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
The process of CM-Tech is actually very close to how Yamaha paints its skis. The process is identical. Repairing the material is a different story.

Seadoo doesn’t stand by their warranty I’d steer clear. They do everything to avoid having to cover anything and I’ve experienced it first hand myself, I didn’t believe my friends at first now I see why every single one of my buddies went with Yamaha instead. Seadoo is pretty shady!
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that, Jay! It definitely sounds like the dealership failed you. Did you contact BRP itself?
@nautilus90086 жыл бұрын
Yea and you think yamaha will? I don't knock their products because i love yamaha offroad vehicles. But they are just as dodgy as the next dealer. My 2016 vxr has been in the dealer more than on the water and yamaha leaves it to the dealer to decide warranty claims. So if they dealer says its on you... yamaha stands behind them. Tell me how a head gasket on a stock machine at 18 hours is not a warranty issue?
@Islanders835 жыл бұрын
Yamaha is great. No problems with them yet. I heard bad things about seadoo from more experienced riders, so I went with Yamaha.

@ 11.56 what a joke. they need to design something a bit more fitting and comfortable. stop with all these gimmicks.
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
The "gimmicks" work, and they're what make Sea-Doo a pioneer in the industry. I'm above average in height (and weight, but let's not talk about that here). They make the seat fit the average adult male, which is several inches shorter. The French Canadians all fit the ski very nicely. LOL!

Watercraft Journal sure , and you think a PWC is a Boat , what a joke.
@watercraftjournal6 жыл бұрын
How is it not? What doesn't this machine do that a boat of equal (or even similar) length does not? Under USCG regulations it's classified as a "small vessel" and thereby must meet certain safety and regulatory measures. Certain states require boating certificates, licensing and registration identical to those for small craft (ie. "boats"). Most small craft lack marker lights like PWC as well, so it's not that. Some small dingys are make from fiberglass, so it's not that. Some larger ski boats feature jet drives, so it's not that either. Hmm, maybe it's handle bars? But wait, don't outboards have similar if not less sophisticated throttles, so it can't be that either. Well, shucks. It's a puzzler.

No videos of it in the surf just straight canal or calm river. Why do we need the background music?? I want to hear the ski. Gas cap under the hood, why? $16k after taxes, why in my mind would I do that to my bank account when I can get a 98' searay for 7k lol. Intelligent brake, reverse, throttle??? No thanks, we want violent gut wrenching g-force donut spins. If you can't park or avoid hitting something with a jetski then you shouldn't have one in the first place. All of the addon linkages are made of plastic, let's see how that looks in 10 years. O"ONE OF THE LARGEST ACCESSES TO THE ENGINE ROOM"?!?!?!?!!? My 97' waveblaster has a bigger engine access than that!!!!!! This is NOT the mechanic's dream, do you not see how tight all of that is?! They installed thumbpads T_T . We don't care about our thumbs. In the good ole skis, we don't have to hold down a button to access super insane mode, we hold down the throttle. #oldschoolyami
