Hi they are basically heavy clay soil, covered with landscape weed control fabric then slate. It is super low maintenance and the water in the pots can drain easily. Hope that helps 👍

Very informative video. Is it safe to always water, the way you exhibit in this video, when the moisture is in the "green area" of the moisture meter? Or we should occasionally leave the soil to dry out more?

Even in full sun and hot temps (zone 7a) I only have to water my potted Mayday JM (about 10" tall) about once a week. I flood the pot, water drains out the bottom, but the soil stays moist for about a week. The plant looks good. I'm surprised at how little moisture the plant takes from the soil. Do I need to make changes?

@@johnthorne1429 sounds fine to me, rather like some of my trees here in the uk 🇬🇧 during times when it’s cooler and overcast 👍

This one has allready been very helpful for me and today I bought a hydrometer, works perfectly👌🏻 quick question, I see you use the ceramic pots for almost every maple, what are the dimensions of the pots? How much liter? Thanks very much!!

My moisture gauge came today. They were wetter than an otters pocket. They just felt moist to me. 😬

Hi Robert, I hope that you find it as useful as I did, saved me loads of time and water. With variation in heat, humidity, tree size in proportion to pot, leaf type and of course wind, I think they are invaluable. Thank for the post!

Hi Derek, actually I’ve now got a single prong device that only does water metering and it’s kind of better as it goes into the soil more easily. If you don’t need pH etc. might suit you better!
