Waylon Jennings was a country and western music icon. He was involved in the early days of Rock N Roll and then he went over to country music where he helped pioneer outlaw country music. He was one of the bigger artists throughout the 70s and 80s. He was also known for his distaste of Nashville and the record industry there. We will also be visiting the grave of Ernesto Miranda who is the reason why people are given their Miranda Rights when they are arrested. Two outlaws in one cemetery!

I had the privilege of interviewing Waylon Jennings back stage after his performance at the local county fair in I believe the 1980s. I remember that I asked him about the incident with Buddy Holly and I regret to say that I didn’t tape record it and I don’t have the article anymore. I did take photo or two of him inside the RV and he was gracious to sign my photograph of him and then Jesse Coulter signed the back of it. Those were the days when I would interview a lot of famous people. Also at the county fair I got to see Johnny Cash and his wife perform. Glad you honored him!

Oh how awesome you had that privilege. He would certainly be a guy that would be interesting to talk to. I know he experienced a lot. You certainly interviewed him when he was still really big! @@RhettyforHistory all the country folks were folksy. Waylon was actually very nice! Sadly my most negative experience interviewing a celebrity was Michael Landon, who was rather short with me and a bit arrogant. It disappointed me as I figured him to be so different.

I would have too. I always loved him in Bonanza and of course my mother loved Little House on the Prairie. Seemed like his roles were pretty positive so that seems like such a shocker. Are celebrities not as willing to do those types of interviews because of social media?

Carol Bearce, Interesting how time affects/changes a person. Back in the 1960's mom use to listen to country music all the time and I could not stand it when I was a lad ( I'm a Boomer). Then in later years I learned just how good the country music singers 1970's and before really were. They had to have talent. One song always stays with me when I think of mom ( 1942 - 2014). Mom was raised in Kentucky and had 16 brothers and sisters. Back in the day mom would always tear up when " Coal Miners Daughter" came on the radio. Years later I found out why as " Coal Miners Daughter" was exactly like mom's childhood growing up, except with more children running around. An outhouse out back, single seater, pump for well water and such. Her father survived a mine collapse in 1945 and passed few months later and few months before his last son was born. I remember sitting on the couch with her watching this live on TV: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJ-Ve9Nor7DLoWw.html

Always admired his staunch stance for individuality and being the creator of his own style and protecting his hard crafted work...This speaks volumes of respect for this man, in a once over controlled industry...Rest well ""HOSS"" A fan here always, Robert...😊 🇺🇸

I'll never forget what he said as he took off his cowboy 🤠 hat. " I bet u girls thought I was bald under this hat" He actually took the time out to chat with us but only took one picture and that was with a young girl who resembled his wife Jessie and it wasn't me 😪 but hey I had an awesome time that night. I often drive by Waylon's old house in south Nashville. It still has the arched gateway with the words "Southern Comfort" written in wrought iron letters. I get a little sad every time I drive by there -- Waylon is still missed by many fans. 😪

Another great video. When Buddy Holly asked him to play bass he told him he didn't play base. Buddy handed him a guitar and said "Take this home with you and learn to play it." He had less than a week to practice before they went on the road. My high school buddies and I saw Nashville Rebel at the drive-in movie when it came out. If you listen to his early stuff he had a really great voice.

Hey Rhett, I never read the Miranda rights to anyone when I was a Deputy Sheriff or police officer. Not that I didn't because I didn't want to, it's I didn't need to. The people I arrested were not felons. Mostly, detectives give those rights and not patrol officers. Waylon Jennings was a great performer. Loved his music. Thank you my friend.

@@RhettyforHistory yes, there were times when people were in the wrong place at the wrong time and were arrested for being where drugs were or a burglary had occurred. Waylon is the lone reason new artists in nashville can play music they way they want, he was the first triple platinum artist in nashville and a legend of country music. if i had to chose just one singer of the last 100 yrs he would be the one... I am saddened that he is buried alone and in such a meager grave, he deserves a memorial and headstone as grand as george jones has.

Interesting thing about the " Anything you say will be used against you in a court of law." Navy sent me to police academy and when the Miranda rights were taught in the class room we were told not to say "WILL" be used against you. But to say "MAY" be used against you. Reason being saying "WILL" makes it a promise and if what they say is not used against them they could claim we violated their rights by not using it against them.

@@dscobellusa, The chief who taught classroom had his 20 in at the time. He came in one day in a huff and started out by saying he did not agree with what he was about to say but was ordered to instruct us on it. He said due to political correctness we were not allowed to call a police car a black and white as it might offend blacks. We could not call a flip board a flip board because it might offend Filipinos. He went on with more of the PC terms we had to use. During this time he kept shaking his head and saying when our class graduated he was walking over and turning in his retirement papers. He said he felt sorry for those who planned on making the navy a career as it would only get worse. We graduated and that very same day he turned in his retirement papers. Where are the four quarters?? You're supposed to pick up the four quarters placed by someone who came before you,and put your own four quarters down for him so he's never broke again. This comes from something he said. He said "I'm so broke I'm four quarters short of a dollar." It's been a few years since I was was there,so I guess they arent doing it anymore. When I was little.I played dice with waylon at a bar named JD's. My parents were playing music there and when my Dad and I went to talk to the manager about set placement,I was left sitting at the bar with soda. The bartender gave me some dice in a leather cup to play a game called Horse with him. A few minutes later someone came and sat down to have a beer and noticed me there. He said he'd play dice with me and I said ok. I didnt know who Waylon Jennings was at the time. We played dice until Dad came out,got a beer and we left. He was really a nice guy.
