Even not understanding the technical terms, your videos are so cool!! Before watching your videos I though that type of companies like yours change the round metal disk to another HDD and then you could save the data. It's harder than I though, but I like it! Keep uploading videos! +1 subscriber!

There's actually SATA pins on this board. I've managed to solder wires to them and recover some data from my WD Elements. It was pretty ugly, so I decided to remake it and messed up with polarity. Funny, the USB part of the board died of the same thing. Could you please tell us more about those SATA boards you use for recovery? Which ones can be used? Where to get one? Soldering and such is fine for me. I can recover an HDD unless it doesn't require opening it up. I'd really appreciate if you answered my questions.

I've had mine for years but I think it's just gone. dead. the light doesn't blink and there's no movement. I've tried different cables and nothing. It's a wd elements se portable 500 gb usb 2.0 external hard drive. I was in the process of doing my quarterly back up and it just stopped working.

hey , i got a similar problem but the issue is drive will show up in the system after 2-4 minutes and will load data also(2-5 minutes) but while copying data it takes hell lot of time(for 20-30 MB files it takes more than 10 minutes)

Hello ! i have a problem ! my external hard drive has been cloned some how with my other external hard drive. It's so strange and frustrating. My WD has a problem. It can read only after my Mac shutdown suddently while Time machine is backing up. Then it takes time to show the data. I can copy out but not copy in. Dropped my father's 1TB USB one 2 times on the floor frm tower yesterday..l carpted floor grante dbut a rough tumble IM sure. Iti's SimpleTech 1TB which shows a WD WD10EAVS inside (1TB obviously). It won't mount in Linux or WIndows thus far. IT clicks a lot, very noisy. Should I continue to test around with it or is there any one thing I should do with it? I know these are laptop drives, that you're showing here... I feel the data isn't recoverable maybe unless it's somehow attempted to be mounted via a regular SATA or ATA hookup.

yes it has. that was rhe reason they sent it out. they told me in order to open it they would have todo it in a clean room which they didnt have. it got back from the clean room and thats when they told it wasnt good. lots of replacing.

What drives are reliable. it blow my mind that i bought a Seagate 2TB "Expansion" for back up and you said that you are getting this externals all the time. I should have bought a proper drive (which brand make proper drives ?) and a caddy. Back in the old day, WD Caviars, Maxtors (before they turn into crap) ... man, I have old PCs at work running NT4 with insane old disk, people just turn them off from the SWITCH every single day. Still running. But I bought a brand new fresh drive and wont give ar near 1% what this old dinosaurs did and still do. I regret spending money on one of this drives. I would aprecciate very much your sugestions on which brand / type is reliable and suggestions to avoid issues... Well this started long ago with Maxtor and IBM making bad products. But grab and old WD or Quantum, the only way to stop them is with a hammer. I have 3 or 4 of them no matter how old they are, how many service hours they have, improperly stored, I plug them into an old PC and still working. What happened to this people ??????.

Hi I have a 2TB external drive that for some reason is not being picked up by my computer. My computer operates on Windows 10. It reacts when I connect it to the computer as the light starts flashing and has a slight vibrating sensation. How can I retrieve my information from the external drive. my guess would be to save costs. making 1 PCB instead of 2 to have an external device is going to cost less. Very first passport drives were SATA with a USB 2.0 adapter

HDD Recovery Services Almost every time a HDD has failed me in the past, I've been able to solve the problem with a new caddy, SATA, SATA>USB adapter or similar. Now, not only is there no SATA interface, but the data's encrypted between the controller and the disk, even if regular full disk encryption / password protection is disabled.

omg. i'm researching this today. i was just thinking of buying a second unit and replacing on original drive, but are you saying the built in encryption would prevent the drive for being able to be recognized? get to the data possible, or would the encryption stop it. ?

If your WD Passport Ultra is reading slowly or not recognized, gently tap on top of hard drive to make it start working. Recover your data through tapping trick and store it on some other hard drive.

I highly recommend to NEVER EVER tap your hard drive no matter what the situation is (unless you want to look for professional data recovery services later that will easily charge you over $1000 for head replacement).

in my experience cable is almost never a problem, but if you want to try feel free to use any similar type of connection cable on it. WD passports came with 3 different plugs.

+michael dean if it does not spin at all you may have bad cable, connector is damaged in the PCB, or PCB itself is fried.

I have a seagate external hard drive slim that I've been using with my MacBook for about 2 years. One day I was uploading information from an iMac desktop. As the process was completing, the computer shut down. I restarted the computer but the external hard drive is no longer recognized. The external hard drive still spins and the light still comes on but the drive is not recognized on the screen. I attempted this with several mac computers as well as a PC. The PC can recognize the drive in it's administration tool but the file manager doesn't. I am unable to see the files on this drive on the mac or PC. Because it spins and the pc shows that it is functioning correctly, I attempted to clone the drive but that didn't help. I've also tried changing the sata adapter. this didn't work either. I'm looking at all of these videos about how to recover data from dead drives but I don't think my drive is dead because it's spinning. I've also tried cleaning the connections on the card. I don't know what else to do. can someone help.

Hello, I have a passport ultra drive that's not working. It turns on and the light comes on and you can hear it spinning but it's not seen on my computer and it makes a kind of clicking digital sound and the light goes off and it restarts itself. Almost like it turns off and restarts. I tried disk utility but it's not discoverable. I'm going crazy as all my work is on this drive. Please help

George, if the drive spins up then clicks few times and powers down, then you have a failed head assembly. There is no fix for that, only data recovery service. First of all thanks for replying. Sadly am using an old laptop because my other one got stolen. The one I have now has Windows XP I been using it for 2yrs now then one day the laptop couldn't read My Passport Essential SE 1tb hard drive. I tried all four USB slots but it won't work. It shows the name on the Device Manager - Disk Drives but not in the My Computer just shows local disk and letter. When I click it a window pops up: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. The USB slots work because I have connected other things and they work. But it works on my Xbox one.

Hey mann, I have a hardrive i dropped it but plugged it in to check if it was working it was. so i tried tried transffering something it was taking long so quit everything it was taking long so i plugged it out. I plugged it back in and it took for ever to come up i think i banged it and it accidently came up. I have a mac

Did you go to school/college for what you do for work im interested in that filed but did not graduate spent 8 years learning computers from 18-26 is having a college diploma maditory for working in that profession.
