it's a joy to have you back. i always leave your videos with some new ideas to turn over in my mind. i've found the more i appreciate and respect the bars of the cage, the better the writing becomes. rattling the bars can sometimes distrupt everything.

Indeed, the cage can be a useful thing, even something that paradoxically acts as a gateway to freedom.

My vocabulary has certainly expanded after watching this deeply interesting talk - thank you!

I'm so thrilled you found these ideas stimulating, too!

not to complicate things, but some essays in Loitering by Charles D'Ambrosio provides some reasons why we read (creative) [non] fiction"

I welcomed your recommendations! It looks like I have that exact book on my list-perhaps a previous recommendation from you? Thanks!

@@LeafbyLeaf probably! I wouldn't be surprised. That book transformed me.

"Precisely down invisible threads these oak leaves fall, leaf by leaf in low afternoon light" (from October Elegy by Margaret Gibson.) Thanks for this new episode of WDWRF: I'm already waiting for the propreantepenultimate (= expanding our vocabulary) one.
wondrous video! there is a question i have wanted to pose to you, also, if you see this - i recently read miss lonelyhearts and was profoundly affected by it, and ignoring the fact that shrike is burning in my head like a hot iron, i was very interested by the prose style; in your video, you said it had 'no fat,' which i agree with, but i've been wondering - do you know of any long pieces that you'd say also have no fat? i am doing a lot of research into large-scale narratives and encyclopedicity, and i'm interested in thinking about whether that can be reconciled with the sort of economy of prose style west uses - if you can think of anything that might fit this, i'd love to hear your thoughts on it

What a cool question! Two such books that spring to mind are _A Naked Singularity_ and _theMystery.doc_ but I will kept noodling on this and swing back.
