It a real shame that after 2 years, many YT commentators still can't tell the difference in the level of security between 3d "IR" data and 2d image "optical" recognition, where both widely uses in fingerprint ID a decade before. This improvement to mobile device because of the development of xbox Kinect and IR camera in general.

This is straight up dumb. Those androids have basic 2D facial recognition, while the iPhone X has this special 3D sensors that manage to make a better scan and ultimately be more secure. It was obvious that the iPhone was gonna win (because of that 3D system) and the androids were gonna loose (because they have 2D facial recognition). This immediately puts the iPhone at an advantage. But, to all of those saying that that's why iPhones are better, let's make Forbes make the exact same test with Android phones that have 3D facial recognition systems (such as the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro or the Oppo Find X) and we will most likely see the exact same results. This test is just dumb and senseless, because the iPhone clearly had an advantage from the beginning.

Strongly agree with MIXED GEMPLAYS. This test makes no sense. @Big Foodie : I personally have a OnePlus 6 and yes, facial recognition is much faster than on the Iphone X but I also know that it is less secure, it is no secret if you are a minimum informed. It is a fully assumed choice.

Test make no sense. Why forbes does not use Huawei Mate 20 Pro or Xiaomi Mi8? Both using same 3D scan technology like iPhone. That would at least be fair. This is embarrassing. I will test which phones can best write to a memory card and select the iPhone to test as one of devices. Upsss iPhone does not have an SD card slot - So the iPhone lost. Same logic.

It takes a few days for making such a fake head, so cost isn't the limiting factor here. You can reset your phone remotely in less than a minute. By the time the head is made, the phone will already be long reset to factory settings.

@@offgun6466 the fact is that even the dumbest but not really dumb biometric ai system should be able to recognize a photo because by knowing the camera FOV you can try to calculate the depth of the image therefore know how if something is flat or not, i can't do it myself but i know that photogrammetry software do work in this way

Forbes has led you by the nose. There are many smartphones that cost 500 USD or less that has the SAME face recognition system as the iPhone has. The tested Android-smartphones in this video are special as all of them LACK 3D-face scanning which is present on the iPhone (and pretty much most other 400USD+ Android smartphone, launched mid 2018 and later).

For all Samsung phones tested, their "face-id"equivalent is Iris Scanning, not the standard facial recognition. This is not even a fair comparison, but a commercial for Apple.

And to anyone who think no one uses Iris scanning, at least a dozen of friends of mine uses it on their s8, s9, note8, note9, or even one guy who uses note 7. It unlocks RIGHT AWAY if you look directly at the top portion of the phone, almost as fast as Oneplus's facial scan and definitely faster then FaceID!!! There are independent companies out there testing Iris scan option and found it more reliable!!!

Should have tried "Intelligent Scan" on the Samsung devices, it does facial recognition + iris recognition and it's probably way harder to bypass with a dummy head

I had expected you'd need better eyes on the fake to make this work. I thought a lot of facial recognition relied on finding your eyes (the blacks of the pupil tend to be easy anchorpoints for recognition). That probably wouldn't be too hard to fake either, but I didn't expect matte plaster for the eyes to function...

It’s Face ID not Eyes ID. Although I would say if you want Facial Recognition then the only good choice would be the iPhone as it is extremely secure especially as it is the only phone with 3D Face ID.

let's be honest. Unless you are a celebrity and your ex is not a genius trying to get your secret identity with billions of dollars. I doubt would have anough data to collect for the 3d scan, first, then spending the money to print it just to catch with who are you dating now. If you happen to be rich, the best security feature is having a low profile IMO.

i am artificial intelligence student face recognition also includes eye scans nd its 96 percent accurate more than our thumb impression so i dont know what all they are talking about yup to recognize one have to take the persons eyes too i dont know if its possible to make eyes patterns exactly the same using 3d view however i think its too critical to copy that

You can do the apple one using a bad picture mask but you have to have similar eyes. It checked the eyes and eye movement.

The model probably wasn't very good. The Vietnamese guys hacked Face ID within a couple days of its release back in 2018. Also, those Samsung phones have more secure iris recognition which is actually faster and more secure

Difference....Face ID is for secure unlocking/banking etc , face unlock is to access you phone quickly.....and they even say it’s not as secure. That’s why on these devices you have to use either fingerprint reader or code to access banking or other secure sites.

To the people saying how would you scan someone's face in public,if someone's hunting you down to unlock your phone then you probably got bigger things to worry about, the people who are trying to unlock your phone probably has to resources to scan your face from afar I mean getting fingerprints ain't that easy either, you need to do a full on forensic test which would be pretty suspicious in public

Flaw in the video 1st The phones which u have taken doesn't contains 3d face recognition hardware. U should have compared with the huwaei or oppo find x which had 3d depth scanning module. 2nd note 8 and s9 uses hardware based Iris scanner and face I'd is 2d hence it's non hardware based. 3rd one plus uses the same 2d and one plus never claimed there face I'd is secured . 4th it just shows 3d scanner vs 2d and states 3d face I'd is better then 2d face I'd 5th u have hardware based fingerprint scanner which is secured . And no one till now has proved that face I'd is more secured then fingerprint. 6th apples face I'd is vulnerable to twins. Apple is always late to the game and most of the time they are behind the competition even tough they come late best example is oled apples oled display is not as good as samsung.i can tell u more but the comment will be longer.

@@debojitmandal8670 Face ID is based on a 3D depth map created by a flood illuminator and an IR dot projector (basically a miniaturized version of a Kinect) while most other android manufacturers are using a 2d image. Face ID is 20x as secure compared to Touch ID due to the additional number of features it has to scan (your face has more unique identifiers than your fingers). It doesn't matter if other phones could do better than the iPhone, the point is that none of the phones tested could do better. and finally, the iPhones screens are actually made by Samsung and are the best screens put into a phone ever. period. @@SxC97 best screen put into an iPhone ever does not equal to best screen in the industry it still goes to Samsung and stop at least this bullshit. It's best for an iPhone yet it's not best in the mobile industry. Even tough display mate claims that iPhone xs way better calibrated . Better calibration doesn't equal to better media experience. The iPhone x is way dull or much less bright in direct sunlight or high ambient light source display mate. The hdr is better in note 9 and cover higher gamut source display mate and many more . Display mate soley focuses on calibration and viewing angles altough my experience was better in note compared to iPhone x. Now about touch id yes face id might be more secured compared to traditional fingerprint scanner but it's not yet proven . Even if it's secured but is face I'd more secured then in display fingerprint scanner. Bcs as per my knowledge traditional fingerprint scanner can be tricked by a cellophane tape with fingerprint adhered to it .but with the new in display fingerprint scanner u cannot do that even tough it's optical and since it's under neath the display and as the screens are capacitive u need a physical skin to enable that fingerprint scanner to fooled so it's way more secured then physical fingerprint scanner. And also oppo and huwaei also has 3d face I'd with flood illuminator,it scanner and dot projector but they dint use that. Instead they chose which doesn't has that it just shows he is based and also it tells us 2d face scanner vs 3d ( which is apples ) . Plus the s9 has hardware based it scanner which they dint test instead they chose the less secured face scanner. Yes I know the Iris scanner can be tricked by some other method. So does the iPhone x face I'd if u have twins. The article which u sent doesn't say face I'd is secured compared to touch id it says what apple quoted in the event . And I feel it's s desperate move by apple to say that face I'd is better then touch id y bcs they weren't able to identify a method to hide the fingerprint scanner underneath the display.jusy like vivo and oppo did . How about bypassing the open up photo entirely and feeding the data from your own initial scan into the software? Thus you use the master data instead of trying a physical spoof entirely.

Use smart intelligent scanning which use both face ID sensor and biometric Iris sensor for unlocking the device in Samsung s9 plus and s9 its impossible! You can't beat that 😉
