That tool you are using on that rye seems to be doing a real good job. You mention the crimping effect on the plant, is this crushing effect pretty all the way up the stem to the head? I shall be interested to hear how well this straw rots down. Over here in the UK it, as threshed straw, used to be considered a close second material by choice to reed when used as a thatching material for houses, barns and stacks of produce such as wheat, barley and loose hay. The straw would last for very many months without rotting down, we tried some as bedding and it took at least two years to rot down outdoors heaped up in a field. Regards, Dan
