Something that cracks me up about how people react to Marie is when people who are skeptical of her act like they have something to prove against her. I remember this one article that said “I found a way to make extra space in your home without getting rid of your pictures, and it’s going to leave Marie Kondo shaking!! I scanned them all and put them in the cloud before throwing them away!!” And a lot of the comments were like “....Yeah, she’d literally be okay with that if that’s how you wanted to sort” lol. I wish people stopped acting like she’s ORDERING you to do anything. Is my house as minimalist as hers? Nope. Are my picture boxes still full of pictures from vacations where my finger is covering the lens? Nope! 😂

i have something major to prove against her. she is a neocon who came to america in order to educate the american people against buying chinese stuff which presumably doesn't "spark joy" and hence undermine china's economy. she works against her own asian kind. she and dalai lama would make a great couple.

The Kon Marie method isn’t just folding but learning to respect your belongings so that they are the most effective things for you! Her other advice to reduce belongings is simply with our economy even though we aren’t making as much as we used to continue to try to find contentment by buying useless stuff that ended up overwhelming us! Her attitude of anyone can do it gives people the confidence to try and succeed at prioritizing their things so they don’t overwhelm their environment, emotional stress from having to find a place for all of this stuff which is now dominating so many people’s lives! Her gentleness is a lost art form in America! Gratitude is lost, ask grandparents who don’t receive a thank you for all of the presents they send, the time they spend in many cases with no pay just so their children can succeed in spite of being unable to afford or obtain quality child care! She advocates that we treat our things with respect that carries over into other aspects of our lives! That isn’t just folding!

Why is that funny to the people commenting? Is her spirituality to be made fun of? Sure, you’re uncomfortable with the idea of honoring your house and speaking to inanimate objects, but you have to respect her beliefs as she respects yours.
@tamashiranai1091
@tamashiranai1091 5 жыл бұрын
@@whitneyhoustonstan2472 its not that its funny , not for me at least it just explained a lot of her beliefs and behaviours since Shintoism often believes that treasured items have a soul - the reason why you will find sort of "burrial" ceremonies for everyday items in Japan. Finding out about her beeing a Shinto maiden explained to me why she greets the house, an the way she treats each and every item.

Marco Murillo Well, it’s very different from what probably most of us watching are used to. That type of thing isn’t usually portrayed positively in our culture, after all. It’s more of a crazy, hippie kind of thing. I’m sure they find things about Western cultures just as strange. One convention I went to had a Japanese guest who mentioned she was shocked at the huge portion sizes at restaurants here. So it’s not like it doesn’t go both ways.

She is Type B with North Americans because they can't handle anything else. If you read her first book, she's quite type A with her Japanese clients. Meaning that she is very strict about certain things and won't budge. But that would make someone here throw a fit and cry in the corner, so she adjusted her ways a bit.

That is a stereotype! The messiest person I ever knew was Hispanic! What was really funny is to keep people from knowing the truth rather than putting stuff away she would just throw it in the back room! This was a family of 5 daughters and a granddaughter and a poor outnumbered husband! With a family that big you would think that you would want every bedroom you could get! Instead Mom and Dad one room, Oldest sister in room alone because she installed a lock saying there was another whole room so use it! The rest were in the other room! The 4th room hadn’t been used for sleeping for six years! When I told her I would help her clean up the room I didn’t know this beforehand! I went N.A.V.Y! Never Again Volunteer Yourself! It took us two months of six hours a day to get it clean so the other kids could use it!

Folding is the least of her talents. She has helped numerous hoarders and people with executive dysfunction get back control of their life through her simple method of organization. It's not so much the folding as it's her attitude and point of view that has made her so loved by the media (when she's not suffering racist microagressions on national television of course)

@summydots

She folds stuff in a particular way, holding them upright. So everything is visible at once in a drawer. She believes the clothes should be folded vertically (some like denim jackets should be hung) than the usual laid out, horizontal way of putting up in shelves/cupboards, not sure why. Maybe she said it adds longer life to those. Anyway lately many people seem to be switching from traditional shelves to drawers for fold-ables, so this metthod is convenient and effective
