Having had a CJ5 it brought back good memories and terror from watching Tommy bouncing madly, the rig creaking and banging…. Say what you will fit nostalgia but new 4wd’s have come soooo far. Running Finns and Hells Revenge in an FJ60 and having the carb starve in inclines then upgrading to an 80 series Cruiser and running those trails felt like a huge jump in trail ability as I imagine going from a CJ or YJ and going to a TJ or a JK. 😆

When I was off-roading with a guide out in Moab what he really stressed was smooth easy acceleration up the obstacle. Essentially find the obstacle with your front tire and then smoothly roll on, and sometimes you need to give it a bump. That's how I see them do it on the off-road channels that I watch. Whenever you guys do these you're always very start and stop or else you just full send. Now these vehicles don't necessarily belong on this trail in the first place, but I still feel like you would have more success if you could accelerate more smoothly. And maybe you do it off screen, but I also don't see much in the way of rock stacking or things like that. I also agree with everybody who said that they could have definitely modded them more. Sorry about the negativity, I hope everyone had fun.

I generally agree (the old land rover quote - "As slow as possible as fast as necessary"). In this case for Tommy, I think that Jeep didn't have the luxury of being smooth becase of the lack of power. For the rock step he pinballed off of, I'm fairly sure even in low range he would have struggled to get up the ledge with his power deficit. But overall good advice

I see both of these liberty’s as long as aspen and Durango E V E R Y D A Y in mass here in Detroit. They are literally everywhere. So are the last 3-4 generation town and country / grand caravan, and last 4 generations of ram. With a dose of stratus and Sebring 2.4, and some neons. These are all very old cars , yet I see them out Working .

This one is good… but I would’ve preferred something like one of the older 4x4 challenge. We didn’t know which vehicle they bought until the series actually aired, while in this case they made about 30 videos on all those jeeps so we knew what vehicles they actually had. Aside from that tho the filming and everything of this series is VERY well done

KJ FTW. put a proper OME lift kit on it, some properly sized tires (what did you guys use? 245/70R16 on a 16x7 wheel? if so, too tall and wide), cut the fender liners properly and pound over the pinch welds. if you have a little more cash throw in at least a lunch box locker in the rear diff and you'd have yourself a cheap honey badger.

Well at least they really went off roading which is a plus; and always great to see Moab. The mods were clearly not well thought out, rushed or something. It could have been more honestly labeled how much can you do with a cheap jeep and new tires. Andre in particular could have done significantly more of course. Also it was crazy to have allowed two of them to select essentially the same vehicle, yielding less interesting insights into what kinds of vehicles had particular advantages etc. In the end the series provided little actual information on what can be done for $10,000 but it does show you can have a good deal of fun with an almost stock cheap jeep on good tires and that was interesting in its own way.
