Yep, if you can't kill a battery by cooking the starter (on equipment known to be out of fuel), then you should hit the most critical and delicate battery part with a big hand sledge...😂

Well, with that battery terminal half-melted off, using a hammer would work as well as anything. If push came to shove, and you just needed to move the machine, screwing a clean lag screw between the screwed up post and the equally screwed up battery cable end would work until it could be repaired correctly.

Trying to drive on the starter motor for minutes at a time is a really good way to burn up the starter. The melted solder is a symptom of over use. It may have more damage inside.

It's possible the battery terminal melted because of running it on the starter but more likely it was a case of a loose connection on that terminal when you were trying to start it. Was a logger for ~30 years and had that issue innumerable times.

Speaking of starters, keep an eye on the 7.3L starter wires. Those connections are known to corrode and give a slow crank when starting. That affects your injection pump pressure. Always check in the fall to make sure they are clean and ready for winter. Good to see Boone back on camera.
@MrGrimCarnage

Between the skid steer, Army truck, dozer, generator, and now the big excavator, y'all should consider putting in a bulk diesel tank. You would get better pricing buying in large quantities.......and Riley might be less prone to running things out of fuel. 🙂

Congrats on the Ex120. I have had a EX120-2 for 14 years and it has served me well. Correct about the start but under normal circumstances they last quite awhile. I might recommend installation of a bat disconnect switch on the neg lead just in case. Stay on top of the fuel and eng oil filters and on the bottom of the fuel tank there is a sump drain to get rid of crud. Best of luck
@ericdillenberger9003
@ericdillenberger9003 Жыл бұрын
What he said! We had this same machine for about 7 years. There's a little screen in fuel line at top by filter, crud gets sucked in if you run empty. Get yourself the factory repair manual it's awesome! It'll save you a ton of trouble. The number one problem we had was the front idler track spread out and it throws its tracks until we welded in bar stock to close in gap, this is another known common problem. Re; noise and smoothness of travel, You might have some bad bogeys, good news they aren't super expensive. Ours was a grey market machine from Japan. Japanese beer cans, snack wrappers and porn under that 'baby seat' ledge. lol. Only difference besides badges, yellow paint between this and Deere was the engine. Also go easy on ether if you ever use it in cold, we got excited and ended up having to replace some valve pushrods. Good luck with that bad boy, its a great machine!!

The excitement of getting on a big machine after a long time on a small one is real, I've gone through it several times! all of a sudden you can reach and lift things you never could before. 120 is a good size for what you do, it will do almost everything a 200 would while being a bit more maneuverable and a bit slower. And while it's bigger than your mini, you'll learn to get it into tight spots real quick. I think you made a good choice.
