New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our toddler Puck and baby Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

Long time no see. A pity, since you have a talent for making everyday simple things look really interesting. You know, some kids move around, a dog looks in the camera, two chicken run for their lives. No fuzz, nothing big. But in a way, these vlogs cover happiness. Which is always small and never big. Happiness is never complex and always simple. I imagine hearing your children refer to their youth, once grown up as fine citizens. They'll remember this.

Good job! When I built a porch at the back my house I used some of that type of strapping from corner to corner, attaching to each beam it crosses. It really helps with stability and avoiding the wobble in a strong wind.

Nice to see you again. Great value building. I built a greenhouse with pallets and used fence poles (2,5 m x 6/8cm) at the corners, inside the pallets to act as fundation and connect the lower and upper pallets. Its super strong. Greenhouse plastic is also good if you want it dry andless ventilation. And gravel on the floor makes it look and feel much cleaner.

Very nice video and great build project. I built something similar a couple of years ago in Nova Scotia, Canada. I used 6mil plastic for the roof! It withstood 2 fully winters of snow before we moved. What I have got to say about your structure is that I hope it withstands whatever wind and rain storms that you get. I really tied mine down to the ground very well. It’s a great video all the same, shows people what possibilities they have from relatively cheap/free materials.

Nice job! When you get round to filling in the spaces, I´ve used expanded polystyrene 2 and 4cm thick sheets which you cut to size and slide in the spaces between the planks, or just tack them on the inside or outside directly. You then fill in the spaces with foam. I´ve made two sheds and the dog kennels with this system and they´re standing up well to the elements.

Great job of reusing old material! A tip for 'next time' is to place the pallets staggered from each other to create a more stable construction. If you could add a few more horizontal planks it would create a more stable construction as well. And regarding the wind, I'm not sure if the pallets are mounted into the ground but you might want to think about fixing it properly before it will blow away in the next big storm?

@@ourportuguesehomestead Yes, OSB will do the trick. You probably don't need me to say so but many building and renovation projects seem to produce scrap OSB and plywood that can be collected for free (with permission) and recycled, especially towards the end of a project when the site is being tidied up - at least that's the case in the UK.

Holy crapola , what a feat !! I bit my nails the whole way through but I have to hand it to ya's , you did it! Pallets are the best aren't they? The wood is so strong and they serve a great purpose to build just about anything as you just proved, I can't wait to see it progress further. The only thing I think you should do is get at least one rain catching system set up for the roof runoff and have the barrel on the inside where the shade is so the water doesn't evaporate in the sun as fast..congrats! I'm so glad to have you guys back making videos, I missed my Dutch fix..lol😉👌✌️
