Ive been in CRAZY construction for almost 40 years. These guys face problems and issues with “Coolness” I enjoyed watching this on Jan 1 2024. As a contractor, the most important thing is a damn good fun working team. This they have. I am very impressed with the gentleman with missing fingers and how he adapted flawlessly. I have 1 missing with another half missing. And i love to work with my hands to improve life. We all know, rarely in construction do things work smooth. Nice work guys! I wish i could have you guys work on my house.

I'm a carpenter / contractor that started working in NYC in 1974 up till I retired in Long Island NY in 2019. I've watched your videos mostly because I like the corroboratory the crew shares but you guys also care about the content and what your working on. I also like to see people using new tech since I'm out of it and there's new stuff out there daily. I say all that because I generally don't comment on videos because there are more and enough trolls out there and I don't want to add to it even if it's a good comment, which this is. I see you nailed the bottom plate (shoe) to the sill and built the wall stood it up and toe nailed the studs for the first time and then you mentioned you've never done it that way. That always surprised me watching you and it's not just with you guys. I live in NC now and have made friends here in the business and they do it the same way as you. It shocked me at first but different strokes and so on so I just rolled with it. Anyway, why I'm writing to you because you mentioned it and I wanted to re-enforce any thoughts you might have trying it moving forward. While I like that your open minded and willing to try new stuff you going to have to take it one step further. The way it's done up north and I'm not saying it's better, I am saying it seems faster because there are less moves and ladder work to straighten out the top plate. After you nail the shoe to the sill, toe nail (hand nail with 8d's) on the inside of the top plate to the shoe every 2' or so leaving the head out so you can take them out later. I say the inside so they don't interrupt your layout. Once the shoe is all down double it up to complete the top plate using 10d nails leaving a space for any interruptions like other walls intersecting and so on. Leave the 2x4, 2x6 or whatever start the double up again. it's very easy to straighten out a top plate on the ground vs off ladders not to mention your layout goes very fast because you can layout the walls, joists and rafters all at the same time. When your all done with your layout take the 8's out, now transfer the marks to the top of the shoe and the bottom of the top plate and your done with your layout and everything lines up. Plumb an outside corner and all your studs are also plumb. Of course this is based on what you were doing on the project. It works on framed floors with plywood of course. Anyway, I like your show a lot. Keep it up, if you read this I hope you take it as intended. As a little advice from an old carpenter to a younger one. Best

(TLDR: ~half:) Ironically around midpoint (to my memory so plz don't go quotin' me here ;) right after the stone wretaining wall w 'stairs' went up and they just got the 'sewer' approved there was a conversation where they had actually planned on building this other house as they had a double lot (hence the quotes around 'free' in the description. So anyways it was *approximated that they 'saved' ~1/2* due to already having utilities roughed in when they did their own structure which was on a double type of lot (prolly a corner offf shape lot or somethin). So about 4/5ths through when cameraman goes to the fellow fumanchu mustash is handmaking and individually bending those near 15 brackets outa ~0.25"x~1.xx" reclaimed looking train track trussling (hehe), says politely yet so solemly; "never assume what a woman wants". This is just before they're roughing that shelving in after she (co-wner, wifey & 'walking boss') brings in the electric coffee pot to size (I think she wasn't quite picturing the really heavy duty shelving'd be near ~2" thick (hey bespoke 1/4" brackets, god likes hand made things thick SHE knows that :D) Anyways somewhere around before these parts there is a discussion about cost and voice behind camera & fellow on camera basically agree that it isn't always about cost (atleast not on this project is the sorta the undertone). Little scenes like the few I just described especially involving the walking boss, really call to attention all the 'lil' details that should be sure to help keep the Plott House Est. 2022 off of the 'Cosplayu Steampunkers' todo list.. :)

So all true perhaps but the real reason is that it stops dirt dobbers from building nests. It is a southern remedy in that respect. I have used it for years and it works 99.99999% of the time. I think once in a while a dirt dobber is born color blind and you get a nest. Cleaning one nest is much preferable to 100's.

Ya, I let out a lil laugh when he presses stop on the phone he had filming him steaming the curtain, which went from ironed look at top left to straight outta box the closer to the bottom right it got :) He prolly setup that shot thinking it was gonnna be this great timelapse montage thing and it was all of 3 seconds including him burning his face on the steam jet - till "I'll just press stop on this" as you see he has that phone w ~5 lenses framed in on the 'curtain' up on a tripod near as tall as he is, hehe, it was a full size tripod, 3 seconds, nearly burns mouth but 'walking boss' is luckily right there, oh, I luv it :) edit: Just meant that A LOT of work goes (can go) into filming - not to mention you'd hear "the real work starts in the editing bay", said often. Certainly in the comments of some DVDs it's a wonder the film ever released except for the studio financial investment. Of course that was before we had digitized virtual editing bays, but still, great comment! ;]

Hi guys You may already know this. Copper roofing’s nails will react with aluminum. Hopefully the roof cap is all steel and not aluminum. The reason pressure treated wood eats away at aluminum flashing is because of the copper in the wood treat. My builder made a small mistake on my home and that’s how I know this. Keep up the amazing work and content!

I haven’t watched you guys in a while. KZfaq for some reason doesn’t show me them even when I put the bell. I’m a cancer patient that’s been fighting bone marrow cancer for over 11 years and I just got the word this week that I have another blood cancer called MDS. It means my bone marrow is not producing blood or immature blood that doesn’t work so I’m going for transfusions and going through hell again. 11 years of this. Also, I’ll be starting chemo in a few weeks. I don’t know how I do it but I’m here. Love you guys. You’ve helped me through a lot of times and today I watched the whole episode.

Thank you for this video. As satisfying as it is to watch each step leading to the gorgeous end result is to also see the teamwork this group of people brings to a project. You guys are a truly great example of excellence and pride in your work.

I love this vid. The way these 6 play off each other is great! Too funny! I have learned so much from these guys. I love it when they explain things. #Let Jamie Talk🙂 I can't even imagine how sharp Jamie's chisels are with as much as he loves wood. I watched this one being built in episodes. Ashley did a great job designing the place. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all

Loved watching this and what a beautiful home this turned out to be. The craftsmanship on this was far and beyond. I did learn why there are holes in my trim work as they used pine wood and not paint it well. I bought the place and didn't know about that. As have had to run off Woodpeckers. Thank you!

I been watching ya’ll for a few years now, and if I had the money to fly ya’ll out to west coast to build, I would. You’re the only company I would love to work for, learn from, and the attention to detail is superb. The way ya’ll carry on is like one big ol’ family and I hope ya’ll carry on for many more years. Happy Thanksgiving Ya’ll! And God Bless Ya’ll.
