When the Glazers took over United had planning permission to extend the south stand and increase capacity to 99000. The glazers didn't fork out for that so I can't see them parting with the cash to demolish and rebuild.

They are basically running out of time, at some point they’re either gonna have to renovate or build something new. And because they’ve let our home rot for so long rebuilding might be cheaper than renovation. We can’t let them take our stadium from us seriously.

I totally understand and get the history + 'atmosphere' considerations but really any redevelopment decisions have to be made like any other major investment with a proper business case and studies (which in themselves can be very costly) looking at all the options. It may be that the mathematics and logistics answer these questions so that there is, ultimately, only one viable option. Whatever that option is, it will have a very hefty price tag attached to it, and the owners will need convincing that they will benefit from the investment. As for us fans... well we have the choice - continue our support, year in year out, or shop elsewhere. That's the commercial world reality we're in I'm afraid - I wish it were different and that top level football could escape these commercial shackles; sadly that feels like an unrealistic dream.

The problem with United is this constant nostalgia trip their fans and ex-players and pundits seem to be on. They need tp wake up and smell the coffee. Football's moved on since SAF days at the club and indeed I feel his constant appearances at games casts a massive negative shadow over the club and whover becomes the new manager. Other clubs in the EPL have realised that you need professional people to run the club successfully and this is one thing along with player recruitment that United failed to do well. Rather than being angry at the Glazers the fanbase should be angry at the people in charge at the time of the sale and for allowing the club to be sold in the manner it was.

I know rio is a huge old school football fan and he is going to love the history and the tradition of old Trafford since he was a former man u player but he sound like the typical football fan when he says 'new football stadiums are soulless'. If anything atmosphere created by West ham supporters at the London stadium when they faced Sevilla should disprove that and there have been some times at the Emirates where the atmosphere has been really good, like the game against Barcelona in 2011 and the game against wolves recently.

@SreatfordPadduck Jay I have to disagree with Rio Ferdinand. The facts are the stadium was rebuilt & reopened on the 24th August 1949 so to redevelop the ground it’s about what weight the current structure can hold & what was agreed about the South Stand before the Glazers bought the club could now be uneligible or unrealistic now. Plus it won’t fix major issues at Old Trafford since it was rebuilt after World War 2 . Now as unpopular as it is if we take Old Trafford apart to its foundations & reuse the old stadiums materials to rebuild a smaller 30.000 seater version of Old Trafford in its place. Then beside that they build a brand new 90.000 seater stadium that will be fully up to date in all including full accessibility to all areas for the disabled. The current ground is was never built to adapt with full equality laws if you look at the current equality & disabled laws you would see Old Trafford falls way short. But they do have a good disabled section & ability Street & a good disabled supporters club & a great accessibility department at the club. Fact if a disabilled supporter dose the Stadium & Museum tour all te get in the stadium is the disabilled stand &yjough the back of the South Stannd then you go out to the Munich tunnel into the tunnel to the dressing room & players lounge out to the pitch over to the dugout & out into the Munich tunnel & we pay the same price as the full stadium & museum tour is with or with out the membership 10%. If Rio Ferdinand & Jay want to do the disabled tou rthey would see. So the new stadium would be a more realistic thing to do. Now the history & legacy dosnt be lodt doing rebuild cause the stadium is only bricks & Motor the history & legacy is in the museum & story’s told by them that was there & keeping them alive keeps that there & we are not leaving the site we are just moving up a bit & staying on the site. We needed to fully modernise & open to change cause Old Trafford was never built to last forever. Sir Matt Busby never thought that the stadium would last for ever. I am a disabled fan since 1986 so I know what I’m talking about. Why do you think you never see a disabilled commentator or a disabled reporter at Old Traffords press Conferences unless they are at the AON training complex as well.

We want players to not only come to Manchester United (the biggest club in the world) but play in a beautiful stadium, just like the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. THIS IS A MARATHON, FANS EXPECT INSTANT TROPHIES FORGET THAT OTHER TEAMS ARE GROWING AND GETTING BETTER TOO…THEY FORGET THAT IT TOOK KLOP SEVEN YEARS TO BUILD AND START TO CHALLENGE WITH LIVERPOOL AND STILL CITY IS STILL NEXT LEVEL. ARSENAL, WEST HAM, CHELSEA, LEICESTER ARE ALL CHALLENGERS. MARK MY WORDS WE ARE GOING TO END UP LIKE EVERTON THESE NEXT TWO YEARS WITH THIS CONSTANT MANAGER CHANGES. WATCHHHHH

Sentimental FC. One thing that made us successful in the 90’s was the first to get on the corporate game early and embrace modern football practice and overhaul the stadium. I went to the athletics track at City’s ground yesterday. They have their mint training ground over the road and connected by a tunnel. We are now miles behind on and off the pitch. Knock it down and build something better and bigger than city. We need to the the leader again.

Florentino Perez gave Ronaldo a career. Madrid tormented the whole of Europe with cheating for years and Ronaldo enjoyed all the benefits. I'm not surprised that he's been ghosting since he left Madrid. In the last 4 seasons he has gone out of the UCL to Ajax, Lyon, Porto and now Atletico.

That’s the whole problem right here. We need to respect what has happened in the past but move on to newer ideas Find a new playing style And if there is a need for a new stadium to keep up to date with modern ones then do it This is exactly why we are in the position we are in on the field and off Love you guys but still come on let’s move on

But you don't need to demolish the whole stadium, Liverpool didn't demolish Anfield, they added improvements to it, Real Madrid are currently improving theirs. The last thing most Man utd fans would want is have an iconic, historic ground with so many great memories down for a boring modern day bowl shaped stadium.

I agree. The issue I have is that even with Bigger revenue, the Glazers would still be in charge and won't care about the on pitch product

How about the Glazers just sell the club, then lets worry about the stadium. Whatever they decide to do it will be in there own best interest, why now? or as Arnold has taken over he's decided to put the footballing side / team first and the 'Brand' social media and making money second.....come on, no chance, he's Woodward no.2 and the Glazers will always be money syphoning parasites.

Just knock the place down and build a new ground on the site. Stop whinging about history like a bunch of scousers, because a new stadium doesn't affect it.

Like the team we need to move into the 21st century. The stadium needs demolished and a state of the art stadium needs to be built. Old Trafford is below par. From the glazers perspective enhancing the stadium will improve the income stream. A new 90,000 seater stadium with a mini stadium for the reserves and woman’s team will be an improvement. Any player we are after will look at the crumbling old Trafford and think why sign here. The management structure is tired, the stadium is tired and the results are weak. We need to move forward. If the planning is done properly we won’t lose the soul and atmosphere. We are a bigger club than spurs we should have a better stadium than spurs.

We can. If it mean we can generate more Revenue, I am ok with it. As long as it's not with the Glazers though. Obviously we would take a HUGE loan to do this but I am in favour of "New Trafford"

Well Said Rio, Expansion, Modern refurbishment & a Levelled new Roof! There's an completed stadium design on WHF!🔰@UtdWesleyy with a comment stating: So apparently we are looking at an expansion of Old Trafford. It’s been talked about for years but put off because of the complications around the south section of the stadium but if we do manage to do it…🔴 2 Tier SBC Capacity: 88,000 Worth a view, please share!
