In this episode we fly from Dar es Salaam to the island of Zanzibar for a few days of cultural exploration. This tropical paradise has a long, tragic history as it was the main slave-trading port for the African Great Lakes region. Today the Arabic, Persian and European influences from the past still linger around the small streets and are ever-present in local music and cuisine. Join us as we learn, laugh and wander. The Swahili coast is simply magical!
This is episode 13 of the Long way South Series; a 6 week journey flying the new Sling High Wing aircraft from The Netherlands to South-Africa.

How fabulous was that?! I smiled through it all. I was in South Africa (I live in Switzerland) and enjoyed a lunch with Stephani and her mom, Reneé on a wine farm. We had a nice chat about you. Told them what a fan I am of yours and Mauritz. 🙋🏼‍♀️🇿🇦🇨🇭

Minus 34 degrees celcius here in eastern Norway this morning, and more than one meter of snow. Such a contrast to your adventures flying through Africa, and walking on hot sand!

Wow! My brother and I used to live near the yacht club and learnt to sail by heading across the bay to Bongoyo island in the Mirror Dinghy our Dad made in the hallway! There used to be a gunboat moored permanently in the bay that 'you couldn't go near', the pride of the Tanzanian Navy. The challenge was to tack and gybe ever closer to see who would be the one to summon the shout 'Weka mbali!' from the rusty decks! And now, 30 years on and with a fresh PPL, I'm soaking up your adventures combining the flying and travel filming.Great work & thanks for the memories of Killi, Dar and the Yacht Club 😍 (Note to self, must get to Zanzibar one day👍.)

I was vacationing in Zanzibar in February this year and tracked down Cedrick and we flew one of his Ultralights around the island together! I can recommend it to everyone! it was amazing 🤩🛩

Just had Missions week at our local church and one of the missionaries lives in Dar Salam (spelling?). He is originally from Mexico City, lived in Northern Idaho, USA for awhile, and then felt a calling to go to Africa!

I stayed in Zanzibar for sometime, but I didn't see any dog around. It funny to see one of them, I thought it's illegal to have a dog in Zanzibar 🤭 Lovely series as always, congratulations Pilot Bambi and your partner 🎊

Again thanks for sharing your great adventure, really great to watch. Great mix of travel and general aviation content. I guess that knowing a place gives one the edge on a re-visit. I hear that your Swahili is still on song. I am looking foreward to your last flight of your trip. It's great to see young folk putting themselves out there and having fun. At 81 I am still looking for fun as memories are great but now is the time for more wonderful experiences.
