Lots of movies overstate it. Yes the French resistance existed but there were a lot of collaborators as well. And I'm talking about every day people, not just the horizontal collaborators. If you want more as good as this I can point you to a film called the contents of my lavatory and it's 5 hours long and the gripping part it when it refuses to flush and the suspense is unbearable.
