I had one in the 70's. He was a great dog lived to 12 years. He was black like that, but it turned grey when he grew up. His tail was docked when we got him.

I have my second OES. She's 2.5 years old. Start getting him used to the grooming brushes now to make grooming easier and establish a routine. I do a general brushing with a regular brush, slicker brush and metal comb(on muzzle and ears) daily or every other day. Then once a week I use a rake brush to remove excess hair from the second coat. Finishing with slicker. Also, only bathe every 6-8 weeks so you don't disturb their natural protective oils. Very high maintenance if you want to keep the long coat but so worth it in my opinion.

I had an old English sheepdog as a kid. Wonderful friend. I see now that some countries don't allow docking of their tail anymore. They are adorable dogs.

DashDrones My OES still thinks she is still a puppy (6 years old) and tries to fit in small spaces with her long front legs with her fluffy front paws out in front of her crossed over. I love my squishy!

he has a nice tail. usually they chop off the tails of english sheepdog which is really sad

Thanks! Yes it's illegal to dock their tails in the UK and Ireland unless they're working on a farm.

Love Seattle, beautiful part of the States! We're just outside Dublin, Ireland. We have two now, looking for a lady to breed Teddy with, they're the best dogs. 100% no regrets, the only sad thing is how time flies.. Teddy is not a fan of baths, but he's well behaved at least! He's 6 now, still acts like a puppy and we love it!!! Stay safe

It really depends, I have two now. One loves sleeping next to the door as there's a draft and the other likes to be wrapped up in a blanket. Their coats can be kept long or short, they love playing in snow. I'd probably say they enjoy a cool to medium heat climate.

@@NabiLois we haven't got our puppy yet, but a woman that my wife was talking to says that she gives her OES 2 tbsp of yogurt a day which balances the ph levels in your pup and the stains are controlled. I haven't tried it yet, but what could it hurt. I've had other dogs that I gave yogurt to with no issues.

Old English Sheepdogs are lactose intolerant. I'm guessing yogurt will definitely not be good for them

I thought the same. I left mine with its tail but unfortunately he's gotten it injured so many times I can see now why some people decide to dock their tails.😓

Karla Navarro That’s like removing your eyes cause you accidentally looked at something bright a few times, and you want to “prevent” it ever having happening again. It’s a necessity for dogs to have tails, they us a lot of information with it.
