The search for a Weeping Willow Leather Coral has been going on for awhile, finally thanks to Remy (Bahama Llama Coral - / bahamallamacoral ) and Jim (Telegraham - / telegraham , I was able to get a frag of Remy's famous Weeping Willow! This week I was also able to get more Aiptasias for the Berghia Nudibranchs as well as adding another type of red macro algae to both systems! And... cloudy tanks struck again, of course.

Clam's do love spawning and clouding the water...regular like clockwork kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nraomrad3s68eIE.html I would only buy more Berghia if you have an Aiptasia problem again it is possible their are still baby Berghia in your tank as it is often the army of offspring that takes the aiptasia problem down rather than the parent's themselves ...like I said before breeders end up chasing around trying to buy up aiptasia to feed their farm (now you are doing it 😀)....it's a lot harder than people realise to successfully maintain a berghia farm a very delicate balancing act, if just one of those berghia gets into your aiptasia growing vats.....that's it you have to strip it all down and start again from scratch, they are worth every penny of what people charge for them because of the difficulty in maintaining them

I had nonstop cloudy water with the white slime too. Found out that it was from my ro/di system's old filters/membrane being contaminated so I changed all the filters, the membrane, the resin, sanitized it, and the problem eventually went away. Could be different for you since it comes in cycles but it never hurts to check the health of your ro/di rig.

3 years latter... would you sell a frag of the weeping willow leather, if you still have it?
@atfinthehouse8631
@atfinthehouse8631 3 жыл бұрын
Still a Frag. That’s how stuff go in nature. Babies separate off mother. Wave and current and weather damage. Small pieces however they come are really fragments of the original. New corals come from spawning. Gametes meet and fertilize. Larvae then if survives attaches to substrate.

Hey man! Long time fan. Just wanted to put out there that the berghia nudibranch may have died of old age not of lack of food. When they get that big they don’t have long left to live. Always best to get smaller ones than bigger because they only live for 6 to 9 months. Just a possibility.

When are you noticing the cloudy water, before or after the cleaners? Are you running your central air? Im thinking its either the chemicals if its cloudy after the cleaners come, or maybe you need a new filter/hepa filter for your hvac. I wouldnt put any corals on the RFG's as they will be covered in coralline soon enough. If you want, I have some pink star polyps that you can have after I do a bit of research on shipping. They would match pretty well with the coralline growth that will come to the RFGs

Why dont you set up a nano tank with aiptasia so you can have a steady supply? Then you can feed them mysis in that tank so they reproduce fast ;) That way you can also avert introducing unessecary pests to your systems (besides aiptasia)

Garry Cole lots of people calling regular Japanese toadstools weeping willows to cash in. I saw one that was literally cut from a short tentacle Japanese, but placed in a lower flow area of the frag tank so it developed tentacles 2.5-3”. Selling it as a ‘real’ WW for $130 for a 1/2” square cut. Parent leather was $30 for a 1”. Despite it having a green base and nowhere near the tentacle density. The original WW I believe was collected personally by Jake Adams and may represent a unique morphological form or species entirely. That’s my personal understanding of the WW saga, but I don’t know any of the players involved, so this was gleaned from watching almost all of the available WW videos out there (of which there are few)

I discovered that if I mix my saltwater (coral pro) at any temp above 65ish then it will cause calcium precipitation and my water will be cloudy because of that. Calcium is more soluble at lower water temps. I started mixing with Unheated water and it solved the problem. You said every two weeks at the same time with both tanks so it sounded like a water change schedule to me. Idk tho.

The cloudy water could possibly be from the Lysol spray. The Lysol kills all of the beneficial bacteria and allows a harmful bacteria known as alcaligenes faecalis to rapidly reproduce in the water column. I would try dosing dr Tim’s nitrifying bacteria to outcompete the harmful bacteria.

If its bacteria blooms, a UV should take care of it. If you think it's outside pollutants, you should try a carbon reactor. If its snail spawning, there is nothing you can really do about that other than remove the snails. If it were me, I would run a carbon reactor on it with ROX carbon for a month and see if it happens again.

"Why am I watching this, I don't even have a marine tank!" I do however, have freshwater tanks. With no intention of going marine. However, I wish there was a freshwater nudibranch that would eat hydra. Fresh water hydra has been a pain for me. I got rid of them, but with chemicals. Which I was skeptical about doing, as my gugdeons were on the verge of having fry. What happened? The fry hatched the day after I treated the tank. To my surprise, they all survived. This video is just.. man.. maybe I need to do a marine tank. So interesting.

On a cycle every two weeks? Seems to me like fall/winter is coming. You have wide open windows and get tons of natural sunlight maybe because the days are starting to get shorter and you have marine plants in your systems, this might be causing them to go sexual.

Something thing I heard a few months ago that has stuck with me..... if you look at any of the Japanese planted tanks, they all have a great sense of scale between the scape and the fish. As reefers we tend to kind of ignore this situation in our tanks. Bigger fish swimming around smaller frags or "mini colonies". Your mangrove tank is an exception.
