You know as someone who had leukaemia, there is merit to the “thinking it away” thing in the sense that staying positive and happy is really important when undergoing treatment . I used to consciously tell myself “I’ll be fine” a lot, and I think it helped me a lot during chemotherapy.

The placebo effect is an actual thing. Thinking you're not sick or have been cured can sometimes actually help. Similarly, the nocebo effect can make you sick when you think something will make you sick. However, I wonder if in this case there's also some confirmation bias because when you're not _that_ sick, you get better before you come to terms with being sick, so in hindsight you feel like you tricked yourself into getting better. But when you're really sick, you don't get better as quickly, so you come to terms with being sick, which makes it look like you get sick when you accept that you are sick, even though it's really the other way around.

On the subject of guided tours, the worst one for me, was when I was a kid. There was a group trip during October for a corn maze. It was a guided tour. For a MAZE. What Connor's saying about falling asleep and feeling like he hadn't missed anything in the movie, I relate to so much. I remember seeing the second Fantastic Beasts movie in theaters. I had been awake for a long time and saw the latest showing, so by about half way through the film, I just kept randomly passing out and waking up until basically the movie was over. I felt bad that I missed it so I looked up the summary on Wikipedia. I knew everything that had happened despite me not being conscious 50 percent of the time.

Doctor here, gastroenteritis actually refers to any inflammation of the stomach and intestines (literally: "gastro" = stomach; "enteric" = intestines; "-itis" = inflammation). The more common terms "stomach flu" and "food poisoning" would differ in what exactly causes the disease: stomach flu being caused by viruses while food poisoning by bacteria. Both of these can result in the irritation and subsequent inflammation of your digestive tract, hence gastroenteritis can actually refer to both stomach flu and food poisoning. So yes, "food poisoning" is also considered a disease! (Sorry Connor)

If you are, for some reason, in Germany and you are really looking for an enjoyable Theme park experience, I really recommend you the "EuropaPark"!! As the name already suggests the regions inside the park are themed around European countries (no not every European country is represented) the rides are really nice, everything really nicely decorated, and the food in my opinion is actually good. And I agree a lot with Joey that it's all about how do the museum presents the pieces and the general atmosphere of the place. Of course we have that curiosity of seeing this iconic thing but there's many ways to make the experience better.

The Netflix intro thing reminded me of when I had to deal with pretty severe depression. The amount of times I changed my mind about going outside while I was in the process of putting on my shoes was too much. Eventually I got into the habit of just wearing my shoes all day every day, just to reduce the amount of barriers I needed to overcome to actually go outside. That worked well for many years, until last year I got a fungal infection and I had to stop doing that

As a History teacher, they are totally right, it is wholly dependant on the way you teach it. Tip, if you involved it into a modern phenomenon can help at least show interest. Thanos hit it out of the park when I teach Malthusian theory. Also Civil War(movie) helped a lot when teaching International Relations theory.

I think outlook can help too though. If you approach a museum or a historical site like "ugh, this was a lot of money, this'd better entertain me" you're more often going to leave disappointed than if you come at it with an open mind and curiosity. A good history teacher helps people develop that curiosity, and it sounds like you're doing that.

1:45:00 one good thing my school did was for whatever reason, we had a whole group of historical actors come in to our school and play out a medieval battle in our school field and allowed us to fight each other with swords and stuff. Apparently a pretty major battle happened where I grew up so it was supposed to teach us about our local history but I just remember it being pretty cool and a nice interactive way of teaching us history. Another thing we did in school was the ‘evacuee experience’ where we all dressed up in clothes from the 1930s and spent a day being a WW2 evacuee. We took an old steam train and learned about the war and rations and stuff which was really immersive and a good way of teaching kids about such events. So yeah, those were pretty cool.

It's only really worth visiting the touristy spots if you know a bit about them going in, imo. The crowds, costs, and waits put enough of a damper on the experience that going in blind can be a recipe for disappointment. Some of the tours and exhibits do a good enough job that you don't need it, but it's just a reality that not all of these places are up to that standard, especially accounting for different learning styles. But if you know a bit about what you're looking for and interested in going in, it's easier to find things to like.

Crazy to see how far this stomach flu reached all over the globe so fast, I had the same thing Joey did around the exact same time (caught it from a co worker) and it’s no joke. I had a high fever and couldn’t eat or drink anything for a week because it would immediately just be expelled from my body, ended up having to go to the ER where they used an IV to keep fluids in me, it was intense. Hope everyone has been staying safe and washing hands, it’s been a rough season for getting sick!

I've only ever heard it called Gastroenteritis too, I've had it twice in my life. 8 days is an unusually long time though, maybe he wasn't treating it from the get go, if it was new to him. The treatment is rehydration powder mixed into water, because with the constant puking and arse water, you dehydrate really quickly. It's so horrible that I've got a few packets on standby in case I get it again. I also got ill on Christmas Eve and I've yet to recover. Luckily it's just a cold and not as bad as what Joey had.

Avatar 2 was a great movie in the 3D IMAX experience. My family and I enjoyed it, it was so gorgeous to watch and even though it was a bit long, I didn’t mind. It’s similar to how long the LoTR movies are where you appreciate the info and details into their universe. Also, in the US I saw a lot of promotions and advertisements for this movie. Everyone in my group of friends was talking about it and people are still watching it. I’m going to see it again now that the crowds have died down 😂

Or when a doctor here tries to explain a diagnosis to me and I go "... oh, so you mean [random Greek words]" *confused French Doctor* "yes... that... that's correct actually".
