As an American, I can confirm that is how America is. When I went to Tokyo for the first time I was blown away on the huge difference then lets say a place like LA. Here in Sweden we've probably come the closest to "beating" homelessness, but sadly in our last election a coalition with the most right-wing party in Sweden won the majority, and our welfare system was already being heavily restricted as is. They plan to restrict it even more, because they think it'll create less criminals. I don't get it, putting people in poverty is what leads most people to crime! It's so sad to see when the world moves backwards.

I'm sorry for getting so political btw, it's just something I'm really frustrated about. It is a complex topic but I feel like a lot of Swedes aren't thinking critically or empathetically. They're angry at the increase in violent crime from immigrants, which I get, but they want to punish them for it which isn't constructive it's actually just going to make things worse for everyone. Especially for the innocent poor people who stay away from crime but need welfare support.

Connor's flood story reminded me of the one time my dad decided to build a fence in our backyard between our garden and the neighbour's garden. Now, my dad's done that before so he got the supplies and started digging holes for the support pillars, went really deep to make sure it would be fastened properly, and finished building the fence the same day. It wasn't a big project and so the same day we drove to Germany (from Denmark). As we're on the German highway, my mum gets a call. "Do you live on [our house's address]?" My mum confused as to why someone randomly calls us asking this: "Yes, who is this?" Apparently my dad, in building the fence, had destroyed an internet cable and had caused not only our house, not our neighbours, nay not even our entire neighbourhood, this man had singlehandedly caused FOUR neighbourhoods to be without internet 💀 We were getting called from the official municipal internet suppliers asking permission to go into our backyard and tear the fence down 😂

As a Seattle/Washington guy, it makes me happy that you enjoyed the city so much. I lowkey worried that you wouldn't be able to get the best experience of the city in such a short time, but if you viewed it so highly from just a brief visit, it's definitely even better with more prolonged stays. Easily some of the best parts are the nature around the city and in the state. And agreed with the food, the more a travel, the more I realize that I miss the diversity in the cuisine. In the West Coast especially, it seems like there is a desire for authentic tastes from different cultures, so while it might not be as good as getting something in the country itself, it's gonna be hard to beat it in America.

I find it nearly unbelievable that the 3 of them saw America as "direct" and "tell you what they think". The hardest part about socializing for me is getting anyone to talk about anything they actually know or care about, and not just the same 3 topics. Maybe it is just worse elsewhere, or maybe what Americans talk about feels more direct to foreigners.

As a born and raised American, I fully agree with Garnt's opinion of the culture between the West And East Coast. Historically speaking, Americans moved out west with the intention of finding Gold, wearas The people in the east have had generations of the same old same old. So it makes perfect sense, from not only a historical perpective, but a literal cultural perspective as well. Hats off to Garnt for literally nailing it.

The true power of American food is actually the diversity. Sure, we have lots of comfort food places that are good, but I cannot recommend ethnic places enough. Good Mexican, Chinese, etc. Places are amazing. Also, if you're on the east coast, seafood is the way to go. Before I saw Trash Taste in the TX show I told my bf that one of them was going to show up in a cowboy hat and boots and that Connor would try to do a southern accent. Turns out all three were in a hat and boots and Connor was still the one trying to do that accent

As the person in my family who is known as the one who reliably orders chicken and waffles; your reaction is understandable. The main issue is when it's Belgian waffles. People try to give you the thickest waffle and what you need is a waffle that isn't dry when you eat it. Also, mixing a little hot sauce with the syrup is superior since most maple syrup you will get at restaurants is an approximation product. Birch syrup is a great option though.

Garnt YOU are correct....I am a Native NYker and have lived in various states on either side of the coast and there is ABSOLUTELY a huge difference between the East & West coast and between every single state....Each state is different, many states have their own accents, their own lifestyles, their own vocabulary. NO TO : POLITICS RELIGION....BUT... one thing we all have in common is that: WE LOVE TRASH TASTE!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS!!!!

It was interesting hearing Connor talk about the subtle presence of politics when interacting with Americans, and it was even more interesting to see it come back when they were talking about the homeless. With all due respect to Connor on the subject of homelessness, it's not that the government doesn't acknowledge homelessness as a problem. The issue is the government is split trying to find out which fire of the MANY to put out first. Different people and different states value certain problems differently and that's how politics grew to be such a divisor.
