Perfect timing! We just finished our unit on the War of 1812 in US History.

Beautiful painting, and timely for me because I recently discovered the two fantastic series of novels, with heroes Horatio Hornblower by C.S. Forester and Jack Aubrey-Stephen Maturin, by Patrick O'Brien, all about the British Navy circa 1800.

I didn't intend to watch this one today, but the badass title drew the rascal in me to it, lol. "It has pleased the Almighty to give... a signal victory..." 🔥 I liked Perry's sophisticated (and reverent) tone in telling the news. I was inclined to celebrate this news until the lessons on the consequences for indigenous populations came.. One person could sing or sob for the same reason. As if this painting wasn't impressive enough, it's even moreso because of the technical knowledge that Birch drew on to accurately recreate the ships! That's amazing. It's true enough that I don't often stop to consider the creation of this nation (much less the War of 1812's role in it), so it was great to receive some education on that.

Glad you liked it. You are not alone, there are several significant conflicts that we, as a nation, seem to overlook. The War of 1812, the Spanish American War, the Mexican American War, etc.
