We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

If you or your Husband smoke Cigarettes you gotta quit ASAP while still young, Your Hub said he's out of breath early in the video, IDK If he smokes, But make him stop if you want to go lifetime homesteading. PS. Go on walmart and look up inversion table for your back, It's like a Roger Teeter Hang up but much cheaper. It will fix your back, Just make sure your wife is right there with you when you do use if you go to the full 180, Plan to talk every minute, That way if you pass out she can stand you up and hold you till you come to.

I've done several complete rehabs for myself/family & dozens for clients throughout my remodeling life. Retired ( kind of ) now, but I miss it. I know how excited you guys are doing this. Especially having a partner that gets as involved as she does.. Enjoy it , enjoy the kids , because man oh man life goes by Wayyy to quickly. 10 yrs goes by in a blink , the older we get, the faster life seems to pass by.. I get sad thinking about younger yrs, though get excited thinking of all the beautiful memories we've made & I get to watch you both doing what I used to love to do, which definitely gives me happiness.. Thank you for all you do for us out here. God Bless. - Jim Gibbs C/O Gentleman Jim's Construction. From Maine to New York to Arizona & in between, many wonderful clients/families I had the pleasure of working with...

@Wild Wonderful Off-Grid - Josh and Erin - My wife and I, not too far from you here in WV, have been massively renovating/re-engineering our home for years. Don't worry about the backseat builders opinions. It is clear you guys do your research, planning, and cost analysis. It's hard work, a lot of learning, a lot of sweet equity, and a lot of adaptation! It's funny how much stuff/tools we have in common! Keep up the good - hard - rewarding work!

Nailing and wrapping your barbed wire to a tree will eventually kill it. We usually nail a 2x4 to the tree so the wire doesn't kill it. It will also rot your wire too. Just a little info for you from one farmer to another.😁 Enjoy watching you guys!!!!

What I find most rewarding is learning the most basic things you know about farms. It’s answered so many questions that I never would have known growing up in suburbs. My biggest regret is not asking more questions of my Grandmother, who was a lifetime German farm girl. What her daily life was like. She was a wonderful business woman when I came along. She and her Sisters carried our family.

Eaves YES! Was going to suggest that in one of the previous episodes but got distracted. A painter friend of mine told me my eaves were too small (18"). He said he would never build a house without 36" minimum eaves. He painted houses for over 40 years and claimed paint on a house with large eaves lasts way longer and the shade reduces air conditioning in the summer months. Keeping water away from the walls, windows and doors is a major plus. Maybe not an issue in your area but potential ice dams in the winter months is the only drawback I can envision. Great work and those suggesting a full demo haven't priced lumber and other building materials. Not to mention the awesome content for your videos of demo and challenging repairs.

If you nail wire to the trees, the tree will grow over it in just a year or two. If you attach a board to the tree and nail the fence to the board, you can keep the wire out of the tree and easily maintain your fence over the years.

Good call on renovating vs complete knock down. At least in California, if you knock down a house and rebuild you are now taxed on a "new house." If you renovate you are taxed on your improvements or additions. I look forward to every episode. Your family is awesome. Your chemistry and banter, is a joy to watch. Thank you from Los Angeles.

What isn't taxed in California. Soon they will be taxing you for every thought you have and every breath you take. Helpful tip # 5,338B- Do all roof repairs and extentions and probably new shingles and flashings BEFORE you hang any drywall or refinish any floors just in case you get some leaks while redoing the roof. It is also a good idea to have some large tarps for covering the unfinished roof over night or ? Take care
