So I found this insane ketchup and mustard cake recipe on Facebook, and decided that since they didn't show a taste test, we had to make one and try it out! So Safiya and I baked a ketchup cake with mustard frosting and yes, we actually ate (some) and kinda liked it... Would you try this???

PERM ur hair Tyler!!! In the UK a lot of people have that hair cut. The lady was right its called 'Meet me at Mc Donald's' but yeh Tyler, it would look so good, cut all the sides off like short back and sides with a nice fade, then keep the top long and Perm it. omg would look so good I can imagine.

Ketchup and mayo have been used to make very moist cakes for a long time now. And it makes sense if you think about the fact that ketchup is actually mostly sugar, and mayo is mostly eggs!

I exaggerated. It's the internet; forgive me. High-fructose corn syrup is actually the third ingredient of ketchup (and corn syrup is the fourth). The idea I was trying to put out there was that ketchup is actually rather sweet when you think about it.

The cakes, were made during the war, when food was in short supply. The ketchup cake is made out of tomato soup, as well. Never heard of mustard frosting seems like too, much. PS, tomatoes are a fruit. When you have no food, these are a treat.

I've never had a tomato soup cake, but my aunt did once make a cake with tomato and cheese after reading the recipe in a magazine. It was okay eating it cold, but if you microwave it for a bit, it is fantastic.

Little tip!: use *gel* food coloring instead of liquid. This is not only because you are able to use less for a more vibrant color, but also because you are able to use less, it won't change the consistency if your recipe is consistency sensitive

My grandma always made her chocolate cakes with mayonnaise. I grew up thinking it was normal.

Sierra its a common thing from the depression era, fres eggs and fats were scarce and expensive, mayo contains both these things and was much cheaper and had a loger shelf life :)

Mayo has a relatively neutral flavour in comparison to ketchup or mustard. Plus the oil and eggs in it are definitely needed in a cake. Tomatoes and mustard... not so much.

My great grandmother used to make mayonnaise cake, which was basically a regular chocolate cake (a little more like coffee cake/banana bread texture) made with mayo instead of eggs/oil, and some chopped walnuts and dates thrown in. Pretty good, and you'd never know it was made with mayonnaise. ;)

Ketchup cake has been around for years. My grandmas cookbook from the 50s has a ketchup cake. The mustard is weird tho. But when you make meatloaf you add ketchup mustard and brown sugar for a sweet/savory meatloaf

I made chocolate cake with onions in it in highschool when we were required to do a thing based on a specific fruit or veggie. it was actually really good. Very moist, and you couldn't taste the onion lol

In Switzerland there's a jam made out of mustard. I don't like spicy things, so can't tell if it's good. But everyone I know who tasted it love it. Sweet and spicy.

At Danish Hot dog stands, a popular cheap option is a "scratcher". Just a paper tray with a hot dog bun, sennep and ketchup. Nothing else, just that piece of cakebread that you dip in mustard and ketchup for more taste.
