Agree, I've been looking at some 2 part car body filler and it says its polyester too, very fast drying ( 15 minutes ) and ideal for sanding, it's very likely the same stuff. I wonder if we can get some MDS sheets and compare to see if they are the same.

Mori-Mori is legendary and to summun it quickly: polyester putty you can find in store are mainly for car repairs and Mori-Mori is made for sculptors; I use it time to time since 2006 but i's been a month since i finished my last 120gr tube, Tamiya one is almost the same but without the incredible history of Mori-Mori which made possible the Garage Kit market in the early 80s.

Ok, i think im not allowed to paste links... sry for that.. Im just realy happy i finally found a video about this putty. Thank you for sharing !! 🥰 It is very hard to find indeed and im sad for that so i did some research and came across "Motip Polyester putty..". Polyester putty is elastic and very easy to sand. Can be sprayed over with all paint systems and resistant to chemicals and weather influences. MoTip Polyester Filler can be applied in layer thicknesses up to 2 centimeters. Processing time: 3 to 5 minutes Layer thicknesses to be applied: Up to 2 centimeters Sandable: After approximately 30 minutes Can be repainted: After approximately 1 hour Heat-resistant: Up to 120°C For more information, please refer to the Technical Information Sheet, which can be found under the documents tab.

Tamiya's polyester putty is discontinued that's why it is hard to come by. The best equivalent solution is to use bondo. It is the exact same polyester putty, same mixing ratio and cures the same. Also there are 2 types, standard and fine grain and both types are way cheaper than Tamiya or mori mori but more importantly you can find bondo everywhere. There is also a bondo type with glass in it. You should avoid that because it leaves imperfections.

BTW, I searched for the components using the characteristics you described, and the thing itself seems to gather some characteristics that make sense on why USA would make it unavailable for the general public to avoid to "death by stupidity". 1. One of the components in polyester putty (I think the alcohol based one?) is flamable before mixing and it can catch on fire on as little as 35°c, which is probably a strong factor for it not being readily available for the public in USA which is quick to place blame on companies. Epoxy resin is also flamable before mixing, but apparently its temperature threshold is much much higher, which would explain why epoxy is favored over polyester. Once the components are mixed, it becomes fire resistant and it's no longer flamable. 2. Mixing the two components *does* cause toxic fumes and has a "strong smell" (likely the one you report), which makes sense why you would need a mask to manipulate them. Usually using a mask is more than enough, but when competing against epoxy which is generally safer and doesn't need a mask, makes sense why epoxy would be favored despite having a slower curing time. The polyester putty IS available but mostly for sale on regulated industries, like cars (for re-painting jobs) or construction work, which means they usually most commonly reinforce it with glass fiber AND it also means the stuff is only available in larger tin cans which will harden after being opened, thus being wasteful if you try to use it in smaller quantities and slightly more dangerous to manipulate (it hardens in as little as 30 minutes, too). RIP. The middle point people online seem to have reached is to use Milliput instead, an epoxy resin which claims to have a 4 to 5 hour long curing time, idk I haven't touched the stuff.

I don't need that stuff at all and I was curious. Not curious enough to use any links, but curious enough to watch the whole frigging video without getting bored. I still don't need it or want it, but thanks for the video.

Amazon sells the regular TAMIYA Putty (Basic Type). Which is good for filling holes. This might be a good aslternative until the polyester putty is avaiable again

is there a big difference between the polyester putty and the basic type one? (the basic type putty is the only one I'm able to find anywhere online that ships to my country)

unfortunately yes, the basic putty is not at all intended to fill any gaps, it's mainly to fix surface level imperfections but even then it's just takes ages to dry and it also crumbles when you try to apply it as it start to try as soon as it's out of the tube making it very hard to smear over the surface
