In three months, I don't want to wake up from being human and taste that!" I actually have some mixed feelings about Capaldi referencing that. It's a little bit too 4th-wally, since that line from Tennant was never intended to make it to air, it was just part of his nonsense ranting so it'd look like the Doctor was still talking through the bits that Martha fast-forwarded through. It's funny anyway :)

Anyone who thinks David Tennant is being overused is very young and doesn't remember Tom Baker. They don't realize how ubiquitous he was. During his run, he was EVERYWHERE, not just in Doctor Who media. And after he left, even to this day, the most recognized depiction of the character is teeth and curls, frock coat and scarf. Folks need to spend more time with their history.

I don’t think he’s being overused, but your logic fails and is kind of both gatekeepery and grumpy old person at the same time. Mind you I’m 50. I can call that crap out. On a simple logical basis, it’s quite possible for someone to think David Tennant is being overused and to think that Tom Baker was also overused. Furthermore, one’s age has very little to do with one’s memory of Tom Baker. There are these things called “DVDs” and “Torrents” both of which don’t care whether something is 40 years past. Age only really affects whether you remember seeing Marco Polo, etc. Stop acting superior.

Which is weird but no one seems to be offended by one of the slightly icky things in history which is the concept of regeneration in itself Which came because William Hartnell had a decline in health but they wanted to continue the show probably because it made money The crispy master has a kind of yuck in it's making it's because they have the successor of an actor who died betrayed as a living cadaver no reason to get offended over any of this the creators probably just didn't think it through and if they ever did realize that they were probably like oh s*** that's kind of ehh

I saw these pictures on pinterest and I just assumed they were released back in RTD era. I thought these pictures were beautiful, it really makes me nostalgic and miss elizabeth sladen even more. 😭 Ten is the most obvious doctor to have her with because him and sarah jane have the most emotional and developed relationship from nuwho. I think if it couldn't have been ten, it shouldn't have been any doctor at all and sarah jane should be on her own. I do feel bad for ncuti having to share the spotlight with an already established doctor, but we still don't know how big a role david will actually have. Since the season is 8 episodes long and the david specials will be 4 episodes I'm hoping that we get to see ncuti shine even in the special episodes!

For me I think it's just important that doctor who magazine has taken the time to remember sarah jane, the picture on the cover is lovely and shows that the doctor was just a big a part of sarah jane's life as she was of his. And having david tennant on the cover for the 2023 doctor who annual is very appropriate I think, considering that he'll be in the 60th anniversary specials and as far as we know ncuti gatwa will only be in the christmas special and possibly parts of the 60th anniversary specials. I am very excited to see david tennant in November's episodes, but I'm also really excited for the 15th doctor and ruby sunday next year! We should just be excited for all the adventures to come in doctor who and remember how amazing sarah jane was! 😊 RIP Elisabeth Sladen ❤️❤️

Its a great picture, I think it made sense to have one of 'grown up' Liz/ Sarah Jane rather than however old she was when she left the TARDIS (late 20s I think) and obviously she met the current Doctor, also RTD said it was supposed to be a Radio Times cover but didn't end up being used so she was probably disappointed that this picture was never seen, so it is honouring her with the picture that never was used!

It's a tribute to Lis and a mark of respect to her loved ones because they'll *know* it was intended as a Radio Times cover. I remember Lis being interviewed for an early issue of SFX Magazine and being flattered and delighted that she was going to be featured in one of the "glossies". Had this been chosen as the RT cover she would have been similarly thrilled, and that unfortunate omission is being rectified - posthumously - now. People who are objecting to this aren't really championing Lis, they're cynically using this as a pretext as part of their anti - DT agenda. Sad that this nostalgic affection is now being weaponised in support of that agenda.

We don’t know what’s going to happen and how it’s going to happen in the next set of DrWho’s. I personally just like to enjoy reading speculation, avoid reading negative views and look forward to the undoubted surprises RTD has in store for us. If using DT, which I’m never going to get bored with watching in anything, as a shallow attempt to boost the Dr’s popularity again, I’m all for it, because I gave up on JW’s last series. Not because of her, but because of the chaotic writing. I have faith in every motive RTD has because I’m sure the storyline will be spectacular. So I’m just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. If I don’t go nuts with impatience before November. Lol. One little thing that irritates me is that Christopher Ecclesston doesn’t get nearly enough praise. If he hadn’t been a fantastically awesome Dr, the show would have sunk and disappeared. It’s a shame he has an attitude about it now because I would have loved his dynamic energy in the multiple Dr episodes. But it is what it is & it’s a shame he gets overlooked a bit. ❤

I for one am excited to see what Tennant does with the role later this year. I always loved Tennant in the role, but also thought that when he joined he was still on the younger side and still largely a character actor and as such he was somewhat limited by some of the scripts and the different interpretations of the character (I love Smith and Whitaker too but thought they had a similar problem, whereas I felt that Capaldi, an older and more experience actor, largely rose above the individual episode quality with a clear vision of who his Doctor was). Now that Tennant is older and a much more experienced actor, with bigger roles under his belt, I am very interested in what he’ll bring this time around.

I love David Tennant, his return almost brought me to tears (really wish it had) and having him be the Doctor again is like being a little kid again. He can come back as much as he wants, but this Doctor has one last tale left to tell on his own. When David comes back in the future it will be super complicated to do since again, he is the only actor to play two different incarnations. But this is likely his last hurrah and if we do ever see him again, his role will likely either be relegated to a flashback. They know a small cameo would upset the fans and then they’d have to pick, which one’s coming back, 10 or 14? So in reality it would likely just be some small role they give him in the future. I’m just really happy he’s back!!

I know a lot of people are getting really sick of David Tennant being everywhere and there are some fans who think the Tenth Doctor is an overrated incarnation ( The Review of Death ) but I think this much backlash over nothing but a damn cover is ridiculous. DWM know what they are doing and know how to market a magazine for a TV show. During the Wilderness Years, they worked tirelessly to add as much engaging content to their magazine to really try and support Whovians with no new Doctor Who to watch on TV. They would review the books, VHS releases, DVDs, Big Finish and spin-off media such as Downtime. Even the comic strips they would make a massive selling point, particularly with the Eighth Doctor as it gave them such big creative freedom to go in all sorts of bold directions with the stories and concepts, even the characterisation of the Doctor himself.

Tenant was a marvelous Doctor, and I want as much of him as we posibly can get, for the new Doctor, having an episode with Tenant, and standing on his fit near him, could be also a big boost to say, ok, he is the Doctor too, and make a lot of people probably accept him sooner, so if done good, Tenant's Doctor can be a huge help for the new actor's Doctor to be accepted by the fanbase a bit faster, since we all know, the first episode/s are a bit hard sometimes when a new regeneration starts (except Matt's Doctor ofc, he literally send that eye to run, best first episode for a Doctor in my opinion).

I'm not against Tenant coming back, though he's not my Doctor (Capaldi for me everyday). I think it's pretty clear that the Chibnall era did major damage to the brand (whether people want to admit it or not) and when they brought RTD in to save it, the idea was that they needed to bring the audience back with a Doctor that is universally beloved. Tenant fits that bill. While I will always prefer Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi, Tenant is arguably the most popular New Who Doctor so it just makes sense that they would bring him back as a teaser.

Since the reboot, on many occasions the Doctor did not appear on the DWM magazine cover. We had the Moxx of Balhoon. Remember him? Mickey had his own cover. Sontarans, Daleks, the Master and many more. On a broader issue I think that it will be time for David Tennant to bow out of the series for a at least a period. As the history of Doctor Who is so enormous and vast DWM alongside other agencies associated with the program need to ensure they maintain some balance between past eras of the show with the current day. There can become a risk, if not careful, that the show will be viewed by audiences as some condensed version of what it actually is. Tom Baker and David Tennant are both very popular and that is nothing to be concerned about. All shows have leads that are fortunate enough to have the popular vote of the public. However, if the producers, writers and promoters begin to use this as a ploy to get in more viewers then it possible future difficulties may arise. During JNT's reign, he was continuously accused of spending far too much time celebrating the shows past instead of focusing on the present. Many, including writers of DWM, were concerned that the show was too much focussed on pleasing fandom leading to casual viewers switching off as they could not comprehend the storylines. I have no issue with this cover. My giddy aunt, there are far more important things to think about. Whether bringing Tennant back is a good or a bad thing, like everything else in this world, will be debated intensely for ages. Only time will tell whether this move was a good or bad idea and of course even after the event people will hold different viewpoints. All we can do is sit back, wait and see. Patience is not very common among DW fans but excitement and anticipation are prevalent. The latter is a positive thing but sometimes I feel us fans get to far ahead of ourselves. For me, I will sit back, relax but also enjoy waiting to see what unfolds. Then the real excitement will begin.

Agree with everything in this video! Personally I think there's no need for the complaints. Although I do think Ncuti Gatwa is being overshadowed, not necessarily just with DT return, but the 60th anniversary etc, because the excitement was somewhat taken away by everything else happening. RTD said that everything in the previews is from the FIRST special; that would imply that the 15th Doctor is introduced alongside the 14th Doctor. An interesting multi-Doctor way to play, isn't it?

I don't mind David Tennant coming back they set it up in the day of the doctor when Tom Baker replied to Matt Smith doctor that a few familiar faces would come back, however I hope he doesn't just jump straight back into ten as there have been 3 other doctors since then and I believe that this new ideration should be different l.

I am a big fan of Doctor Who and it's my favourite and I also saw three of the spin-offs (K9 and company, Downtime and The Sarah Jane Adventures. I do know about the other two, but I have not seen them.) I understand that Sarah Jane did not like being called Sarah, but at the same time she didn't mind the Doctor calling her Sarah, because he called her Sarah from the 3rd, 4th 10th and 11th Doctor. He still did called her Sarah Jane some time and some time called her Sarah

Big Finish audio output addresses a lot of positives for me personally 🤔 I'm thrilled Christopher Ecclestone has joined that 'universe' 👏😊 It's exciting that the TV version has a former showrunner back, I'm excited about the present coverage and immediate future 🌤 I agree with you about David Tennant 💫🌟

That picture is BEAUTIFUL! Her smile is so lovely and joyful to me. He looks handsome and charming while not overshadowing her. The fact that she is above him in the shot destroys the “patriarchal” argument in my eyes. Fantastic cover. Yes, I said fantastic. 9 was my first Doctor. I like 9 but love 10 and 11.

Pardon me for using this Field(Basho) for a bit of Star Trek predictive analytics, but as I've been channeling the Spirit of Gallifrey off and on throughout the day, it seems appropriate. At this point in the Space Time Continuum, the two most likely characters I see as dying are Riker and the Star Child. It looks like the Picard producers are just going to stick to the script, and heap more weight on Jean-Luc's tired old soul.

Before the 2005 reboot of the show even happened I remember reading about how producers would get nervous recasting the doctor and the idea of returning to an old one (like Tom Baker) was thought about. I was relieved they never did it as it would be cringeworthy and embarrassing trying to recapture old glory and admit the show is going in circles. Now they have done it I'm not mad but I'm not surprised there's backlash, they've opened themselves up to this. It needed a trigger and this magazine cover is it.

Regarding the "gender-politics" aspect of this cover, I'd just like to point out that Lis's head is higher than David's, and her hand is on his shoulder. Just reverse their positions in the picture, and he'd appear very much the proud paternal figure showing off his grown offspring (which, honestly, in terms of the Doctor/Sarah Jane relationship, can absolutely make sense, although she was already a kick-butt investigative journalist before she ever met the Doctor,) so in the current configuration, the meta-commentary of Classic-Who superstar Elisabeth Sladen proudly presenting boyhood-Whovian-made-good David Tennant is absolutely appropriate.

Question is, the people that complained, did they complain during Tennant's original run as the doctor? Most likely not. Why do people complain about the most stupid things. I think personally it's a lovely picture of the doctor and sarah jane. House of the dragon s2 doesnt start filming till later this month, so potentially matt smith might have had time to make a quick appearance in the specials. Paul Mcgann would be amazing if he appeared again, he defo deserves more doctor who screen time. Ncuti gatwa will get his time, we will get a mixture of both the 60th specials and series 14 in advertising so I dont think David is overshadowing ncuti at all.

Way back when, when I first became aware of Dr. Who, it was Tom Baker in the driver's seat and I quite enjoyed the show. After watching the 4th Doctor, none of the actors following lived up to my expectations. As far as the older Companions go, I liked Layla and the Brigadier; hated Adric; I thought the 4th Doctor's Master, Anthony Ainley, was a really good foil. I found Sarah Jane's character tedious, I tried to watch hoping for something more than the same old, same old story. I mean come on, how many times did she have to roll down a ditch, or need the Doctor to get her out of whatever jam she found herself in? I guess in a way she was like Lois Lane from Superman. Then came the 2005 reboot and I looked forward to seeing it. Christopher Eccleston was good at getting the ball rolling, but it was really David Tennant's run as the Doctor who really brought the character to life. Is he being overused? Maybe? But he is who people are tuning in to see, in time he'll decide when he's had enough. And if or when another actor with such a presence is ever found, then they will become the new face of the Doctor.

What I would Love to see, is if RTD is going to go down the Marvel route (which in My opinion sounds like a Multiverse), get several actors to portray Alternate versions of Popular classic characters or even Doctors. Set it up that Jo Martin's Doctor is from another Universe who came before Hartnell, and she came through that Temporal Rift, purposely or accidentally. Have Richard E. Grant come back as an Alternate 9th Doctor, or go as far as trying to get April Walker who was Originally casted as Sarah Jane, but just Did Not fit with Petwee, etc. If not her, then Angelia Cartright of Lost in Space fame. And either have her cross back over or stay.

DOCTOR WHO FANS ANGER AS DOCTOR WHO ON THE COVER OF DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE. I haven't got down to WH Smith to buy this months magazine yet but last months is still next to me and the cover is a robot that last appeared in the show in 1977. I feel it's a bit strong of some on Twitter to suggest that Doctor Who Magazine is worried things wont sell without David Tennant on the cover. I understand a little bit more the reaction the annual, as it felt like a good opportunity to celebrate the show we'd seen in 2023 and Jodie's time more widely, but there was also a yearbook which did that and had Jodie on the cover. As Ellie says I think David is just the most happy to come back right now. Clearly he's probably a Doctor with a decent home studio set up because since covid he's really been banging out Big Finish dramas left right and centre too but I think it's more his enthusiasm for playing the part than anyone saying that any other Doctor or Liz Sladen alone wouldn't sell.

I’m American, so I really need to figure out how to get Doctor Who magazine. I feel like I’m really missing out! That being said to the point of the video, I don’t understand the controversy at all. Of course Sarah Jane wouldn’t be on the cover of Doctor Who magazine by herself and David is the current doctor and he is my doctor, so I am very happy! I suppose if you don’t like him in the role, you wouldn’t be happy but still I don’t think it’s a reason to be upset I think this is a non-issue

Im certain theres a type of person who gains some form of sense of superiority if they can think of a reason to be offended that literally no-one else has noticed or cared about. It's not fact based so there is arguably no right or wrong, or maybe the majority view should be the accepted one? Either way, got to love social media! I think it's a lovely picture from a great episode, and Liz Sladen is one of the few famous people that was a genuine personal gut punch when she passed away, so I'd defend her to the ends of the earth (Galaxy? Time?)

With a cover headline that screams "We ❤️ Sarah Jane" having Tennant front and centre is a bit perplexing - especially when you consider that the same set this shot comes from contains a photo that is far more balanced and provides far better layout opportunities than the one chosen.

I haven't seen Doctor Who since the Girl Doctor got outsmarted by the Master's Time Lord Cyberman army. Really, the whole interdimensional originator of the Time Lord race twist was a kick in the face, and knocked the taste for the franchise out of my mouth. Now that I think of it, I'm still a little sore about it and won't finish watching this video.
