This was first released in 1971 on their 4th album. Rolling Stones pianist Ian Stewart was featured on this song. It came from a spontaneous jam session, with Jimmy Page playing a Chuck Berry style guitar riff and John Bonham playing the drum intro from Little Richard's Keep-A-Knocking. Basically 15 minutes later one of the greatest rock and roll song was made. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦

Yes, there is definitely a lot of 50s roots of rock sound here. Besides Chuck Berry, the piano recalls Little Richard & Jerry Lee Lewis..also some JLL & Little Richard vocal styling. They took this song from the 50s and Zeppelin'd it.

If ever a song was born of frustration, it's this one! Zep were working on When The Levee Breaks and Bonham was having a bit of bother getting it right. Out of frustration he broke into the intro to the little Richard number and, as you say, 15 minutes later, this monster was born. Been rockin' and rollin' ever since.

Astute observation! That’s what makes the best bands so transcendent. Bass is so steady the drummer can do some cymbal romp. And yet he’s so steady the bass can get busy at the same time because maybe the guitar riff is holding it all together. At that moment anyway. Then it changes! In a band this strong even the singer can call them all home. Of course jazz players are expected to do all this from the get go but expecting and doing can be two different things. This band had it all.

I can't imagine Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. However, when Jimmy Paige was forming "The New Yardbirds" (later renamed Led Zeppelin), a singer and guitarist named Terry Reid was Paige's first choice. They weren't able to get it together because of previous commitments by Reid. If you react to Terry Reid's song "Stay With Me Baby", you'll know why Paige wanted him. If Janis had a younger brother, he probably would have sounded like Terry Reid.

Released in 1971. Only ten years away from the heydey of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and other early rock pioneers who heavily influenced these young Englishmen. It's funny how it can still be nostalgic fifty-some years later - when listening to this is the definition of nostalgia. They were the "new thing" that only existed because of the 1950s rockers...

You guys should print out the lyrics to glance at before, during, or just after the song so you can refer to them. It would probably help you guys better interpret the song meaning cause during the song when you are concentrating on the artists voice and the instrumentals, and also due to pausing the video for commentary, it is easy to miss critical lyrics that could help with the meaning of the song. Many people noticed on the song “traveling soldier,” you guys missed the point that the soldier died and that was why the girl was crying. Also, on the song “he stopped loving her today,”he stopped loving her because he died. I know it’s hard to always get a song meaning, especially ones with subtle lyrics you really have to pay attention to, but I think that’s why it would help you guys a lot to have the lyrics handy!

Their tribute to the the old school rock and roll of the 1950s. "The Book of Love" in verse two was a song by The Monotones, released in 1957. "The Stroll" (1959) was a song by The Diamonds, and also a line dance. Ian Stewart, on the piano here, was one of the founding members of The Rolling Stones. When they began to make it big their manager, Andrew Oldham decided Stewart wasn't attractive enough and didn't project the bad boy image he wanted for the Stones. Stewart was relegated to playing behind a curtain, and he was never pictured with the rest of the band. The good-natured Stewart went along with it, but he deserved better. Eventually he branched out and began playing keyboard for several bands as a sort of sessions man, and his cnsiderable talent was always respected by everyone. Stewart died in 1985. Long afterwards, Keith Richards said, "Every time I play I'm trying to please Ian."

Another flavor of Zeppelin is the rockabilly sound of "Hot Dog". It's truly not like anything else they have recorded.

You should consider some of Robert Plants solo stuff. "Big Log" and "In the Mood" are classics.

Led Zeppelin is always good. I suggest you try Robert Plant--Ship Of Fools. He went solo after this band in the 80's. If you want more, try The Honeydrippers--Sea Of Love. Enjoy!

Sweet banger from the best rock band ever. Y'all still need to react to the studio version of Stairway... live version is cool and all, but it's not the same.

Yes! Led Zeppelin II is perhaps their album most dedicated to straight-ahead rock. (I is about Jimmy and his guitar, III is about a "heavy" sound, IV is mystical poetry. I'm hugely simplifying, of course.). You've done "Black Dog", you've done "Heartbreaker", and now you've hit this. And it hit back, lol! Bangers, we got your bangers! Keep 'em coming! :)
