We need a plan of action for tomorrow. Generation Z is not at fault for their failures. Nate Turner explains accountability from all other generations. Nathaniel A. Turner was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. Despite graduating in the bottom quarter of his high school class from one of the worst and most impoverished school systems in the country, Nate went on to earn several degrees. Nate holds a Bachelors (Accounting), a Masters (Theology & History), and a Juris Doctorate degree.
Nate is an entrepreneur and has operated a financial services practice for two decades. Not withstanding his professional accomplishments, Nate's greatest passion is helping children realize what he rarely experienced growing up in Gary: feeling valued as a human being and knowing his life had a purpose.Today, Nate's counsel and advice are included on his blog "The Raising Supaman Project", his radio show "The Road Less Traveled", and in his books "Raising Supaman" and "Stop The Bus". Nate encourages parents, guardians, and the community to raise children to become great world citizens and he challenges us all to maximize our abilities to their fullest potential. Nate also speaks nationally and contributes to other nationally recognized blogs, publications, and radio programs.Nate believes each day is another opportunity to share valuable experiences, tools, methods, and resources with those charged with preparing the sons and daughters of our Nation. Nate considers it a calling to make certain that OUR future is ready for this awesome journey called life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I heard from my phycology teacher that we are The most stressed generation he’s ever seen. Said something’ll never forget. “You guys are expected to do everything but aren’t given the resources to do anything”... really it’s f*cked up. We are overloaded, stressed to the breaking point, given ZERO help for mental health, usually only one (not trained) counselor PER SCHOOL! Half of us want to die everyday and 3/4 of us have extreme anxiety disorders. And we are expected to do MORE the past generations. My parents tell me that there’s nothing to be stressed about. Ok, is 2 papers, read 2 books, 7 pages of math work, with 6 extra worksheets, a science worksheet and lab, history notes, and vocabulary not stressful enough? Oh I forgot, keeping a social profile, keeping up with friends so they don’t ditch you, look right, talk right, hope you don’t look too tired, tell you parents you’re fine, mental breakdowns in school, trying not to fail but you don’t understand, depression in quarantine, the struggle to get out of bed in the morning..... is it not enough We’re just suffering in silence now..

Gen z is the generation with the most mental health problems. They really don’t get it. Things are so different now. It is so much harder. We are up till 3 in the morning trying to finish assignments. Plus you forgot to include all the tests we have to study for. It is impossible to keep up with everything. I spend so many nights just crying myself to sleep and having a mini panic attack cause I have no idea what to do. We are not prepared for this

@@hllyenaylleth9576 Who said they did so happily? Japan happens to have the highest suicide rates. Besides, war time and assignments are not comparable. Also being overloaded with work is a perfectly valid reason to be stressed. Not only do we feel overwhelmed, but we also end up sacrificing too much personal time, missing out on family events and holidays, blowing off friends and families, losing relationships and friendships due to distance, etc., all just to keep up with assignments and stay on top of the class. Lack of human interaction, personal time with hobbies, and hygiene is really bad for one's mental health, and it also causes the type of loneliness that hits you like a truck and eats you inside at 3am when you've finally finished the assignments and studying you started at 5pm. Please do not downplay the mental health effects caused by being overworked at school.

These “issues” seem to be self-created issues. With all due respect to the speaker here, he’s clearly missing the mark and making excuses. We have gotten to a point to where life is truly SO GOOD, then we must create problems to “fix”… everything is solved; generation Z just needs to be more innovative. I can see how that is difficult, given the massive strides made in the past 200 years, particularly the past twenty years. What else is left to create? What technology? … 21st century innovators seem to be far and few in between. Innovation is what needs to be focused on, not political talking points.

as a millennial I've noticed something. Old videos talk about how "the next generation will save the world" and "our kids will do great things" all the way back to the start of video. Newspapers and books printed the same sentiments even farther back. It's been a game of pass the buck for well over a hundred years. "I couldn't do it, so I'll pass the buck to my kid. Surely they can do what i couldn't." No. You want us to do what you procrastinated on and now that the time limit to get it done is coming to an end you can't decide if we're gonna be great and fix it or if we've failed to do it in time. The problem isn't us, it's YOU for putting the whole world in our laps and doing nothing to help. YOU failed and now you're yelling at US for YOUR failures??? Shut up and get to work. If you want us to save the world then start being a better example of what you expect us to do about it because WE'RE NOT THE ONES WITH ALL THE POWER.

I heard someone commit suicide and heard an elder one say "they died and left their loved ones at such a hard time. No kid should do that. They should tell things to their parents." And i felt the disgust. No one commits suicide without thinking about the things they are leaving their loved ones with. No one eventually goes like "bye i am leaving this world" and dies.. It takes so much effort. Every depressed persom thinks about their loved ones before they take such decision! They prevent themselves so much times just because they can give their people hard times due to their death but when no one feels like caring or giving a hand of help to them when they are down, they can't help it. They tried and tried and then made the decision. Suicide is not normal. If people cared more about someone who is living through everything hard, there would have been less chances of such cases. Everyone deserves a hug, no one deserves to die in this world by such causes at such young age.

Suddenly I turn 18 and have a political opinion? Just because I’m young, just because I’m in gen z, i can’t be educated? My words don’t matter? My mom once told me during a fight to give her my phone bc I was “talking back” and she said the words “you don’t get to dictate your life. I do.” Why doesn’t my voice matter? Just because you don’t like what I have to say? What I do with my life? I’m tired of being “too young” to have an opinion. I’m tired of not being able to “dictate” my own life. @@THEREALZENFORCE I think you have a large bias, it is insanely easy to lie with baseless graphics, the 2008 recession was the largest increase in housing price and largest stock market crash because there weren't enough regulations on what corporations could do. and of course inflation is going to happen a lot, it's a compounding formula, it exponentially increases with the inflation rate. wages have been stagnant with inflation making it worth less. Housing prices were brought up due to having more standards. No more asbestos, they had to be structurally sound, couldn't skimp on anything if you wanted them to be able to be sold. National debt is majority caused by student loans which are not a product of millennials.

It’s easier for the older generation to blame the younger for failing to live up to their expectations than to recognize their own failures of being parents, mentors, and proprietors of government, society, and resources. It is not the failures of the youth they truly fear but their own.

Nothing will change, we are all pining for destruction in the end, even though we are becoming more intelligent. Also, seems like you are a lost cause, the end of a burning ship, and most of you are the wreckage or among the wreckage. No hope even if you tried. You, for being human, automatically fail. I resonate with this so much. My parents have such high expectations of me, and gaslight me emotionally into thinking I exist only to self-sacrifice to please them. I spread myself thin to make them happy and proud of me but they're never satisfied. When I'm sick they still expect me to honour family commitments and please everyone around me. They legitimately cannot wrap their head around the fact that I want to be my own person and do the things I enjoy. When I was small I played along because I wanted their approval so much, but now I'm gradually processing all this and realising how hurt I am that they never bothered to see me as a person, just a token child who cannot ever make my own decisions without criticism.

EVERY GENERATION has a few good people, a few assholes and most that are somewhere in between. And Life has thrown different kinds of challenges at all of them in many different ways. It’s never going to get better because it’s never been easy. It’s always been a rollercoaster where the masses don’t have control of the wheel. Don’t be so fast to blame a particular generation... just work on yourself and do everything in your power to reduce the suffering of your family, friends and neighbors. How I see it is: If you’re apart of Gen Z (as myself), then you’re in the “Can’t Sleep because Everything Is Constantly Changing and It’s Eat or Be Eaten” Era. With the access of so much information, can you honestly expect us to never be doing anything? I could do everything on my phone from reading books to submitting digital paperwork to applying for jobs. The possibilities are endless. To add onto that, it means school curriculums are steadily growing. You quite literally cannot rest too much or you’ll fall behind. God forbid we do get a chance to rest and you see it as not using time constructively. At this rate, your child needs to know the fundamentals of Quantum Physics the moment they pop out the womb. As much as I’m motivated to do better and actively be better, I get tired too. Shoot! I haven’t even properly started college yet. Can I get a chance to make mistakes? The answer is no. We’re expected to just _know_ and stay 16 steps ahead of problems. Like I said though, I get tired too.... and I’m pretty sure most of the Generation is still in school....
@Manj_J
@Manj_J 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I felt like this when I was back in school, and I got too overwhelmed because there was so much I needed to do to keep up with everyone and I didn't give myself time to rest, and I suffered so much because of it. From my mental declining to my physical health declining to my social life, everything was falling apart and I had no support from my family and society (the exception being a few of my friends and teachers whom I've made connections with). Up to this day, whenever I make mistakes at home, I always get shouted at even though I usually learn from all my mistakes after making them once or twice, but I wouldn't have learnt anything if I didn't make these mistakes in the first place! And even after I learned my lesson, I still made some mistakes because of how tired I was and how there never seemed to be an end to the things I need to do so I can finally get the rest I need, or to do research on stuff I don't know but am pressured to just automatically *know*... It's exhausting honestly

@@vaughnrob4548 Hey... I feel you, but after reflecting (in my situation) I realized that it won't give me any positive benefits if I keep making those people (you know who) affect me negatively. So I thought that I'll prove to them how much I'm capable of and make them regret "those days" that I was being helplessly humiliated in front of others that (little do they know) would scar me for life. I know that feeling when they don't take you seriously and it's just sad to think how your mother just missed a perfect opportunity to help you out, especially when you gathered all that courage to share your thoughts, feelings, and opinions... only ending up to feel betrayed and judged. I'm writing this public reply not because for pitying you, but instead I'm doing this out of compassion. I want you (and anyone else who took their time reading this) to think of this or any problem/s you have encountered as an obstacle that God has planned out for you. (to make you stronger and grow brighter as you charge head first into the future) In other words, don't let "them" affect you and accept it as a challenge from them instead. Let's both do our best! Ps. If you're being judged, don't stoop down to their level and be patient until you prove them wrong.
