Ok, so I'm assuming that "quiz game" was Kahoot. That kid didnt "hack" the game either. He just used a bot website and entered the code. It probably took him 5 minutes to figure it out.

A good way of explaining it is millennials listened to 50 Cent and All American Rejects and hated on Britney Spears and Justin Bieber. We older gen z'ers listen to classic Chris Brown, (but remember when he beat up Rihanna), Migos, and hate on Justin Bieber and 6ix9ine. The Fortnite gen z'ers listen to Lil pump and think OUR music is classic hits, and they don't remember a time when rock was anything but ancient history

I’m not a teen, but I’m close. And I agree. They shouldn’t use 2nd graders to tell everyone about Gen Z because most younger kids in Gen Z are extremely spoiled. There are Gen Z kids that were born before, and used other things before iPhones and Mac books. I remember using dvds and Disney fast play when I was younger. Most adults think that we are the most spoiled Generation, but we aren’t, we just happened to be born during this time. We may have good things, but we have so many things to worry about, like getting shot at school by a murderer.

And every time someone talks about our generation they HAVE to bring up technology. Like jeez, sure we've grown up with it, but also... Climate change? Suicide rates skyrocketing? Being born after/during 9/11 (and a recession) and not knowing a world where people could just chill? That's what we dream about. Oh, and yes, we desire to be treated like humans, without having to request that you treat us as humans.

Man, just talk to us like intelligent human beings. Be prepared for words to be used in a way you may not have heard them, but most of the Gen Z people I know (myself included) are perfectly happy to explain the way we use slang. The biggest thing that blocks communication with us is belittling us and thinking that because we use words, grammar, and punctuation “incorrectly” means that we’re dumber, when really we just have a different way of viewing communication.

Anyone else hate the term iGen? It’s like, there’s always the misconception that it’s always about the internet and it’s simply not true. We’re just the generation that’s had access to it from birth.
@BenoHourglass
@BenoHourglass 5 жыл бұрын
The term iGen was originally a proposal to describe Millenials. I'm sure Generation Alpha will be given that name by Boomers as well. Then Beta, Gamma, Delta, Charlie, etc.

The funny thing about that is, I didn't have consistent internet access until I was 14, I'm almost 19 now 😂 I got my first laptop when I was 14. Before then I had to use my parents' phone (yes they both shared a smartphone), and all I really did when I had that was text school friends and listen to music (never watched videos) on KZfaq.

@@taylorbritt499 You didn't use blackboard, desire2learn, or equivalent at all at your school? Where did you go when you needed to do research for a topic? What did you watch on TV? Did you watch TV? @taylorbritt499
@taylorbritt499 5 жыл бұрын
@@BenoHourglass no, we didn't use any online classroom site until freshman year of HS, when I was 14 (we used Google Classroom). Which is why I got the laptop, for school use. And before that, I watched TV, played on my PS2, read (a lot of) books, and played outside with my next door neighbor. If I had to do a paper, I stayed after school and used the school computer lab or used the in class computer time that was usually given. We had iPads available starting when I was in 6th grade, but only ever used them in class for subject-specific apps and games (like math games or going online to read articles) and those iPads stayed within the classroom.

Great presentation, he made some excellent points. As a 16 year old guy, every time someone talks about gen z, it's always about being addicted to video games or always on social media. But they never actually include us into their conversation. We're very capable of talking to adults and having an actual discussion. We're not only on xbox or social media, we also learn through this what they won't or can't teach us in class due to time or something else. A bunch of us are watching Ted talks like this one. Have a presentation where you have a couple millennials, gen z, and gen x together. Don't grab the first volunteers from gen z, the ones that raise their hand first for something like this in class are usually the weird kids or the wayyy too into school kids and probably won't properly represent us well

I feel like most points about Gen Z still apply to us, though we of course always grew up looking up to Millennials, which makes us more alike. Also, of course all the typical teenager stuff doesn't apply to us anymore, like, we can hate on Fortnite players, because they're 13 year old little shits, right in the middle/early stages of puberty. EVERYONE objectively sucks at that age. We should probably wait a few years for actual stereotypes of our generation to develop. The basics are already being laid (personal involvement, especially in charity, often less of a strictly capitalist mindset, entrepreneurship) but it takes for the first of us to turn 30 for things to really get started. Right now even the oldest of us are mostly still in college.

I think Gen Z is right around 1996 to 2013. The cut off is basically if you're old enough to remember 9/11. So anyone born before 1997 would have been 4 or 5 years old when it happened, and I would think at 4 or 5 you'd remember something like that. Especially being school age. So yeah. I'd say 1996-2013 is Gen Z.

There is some psychology to this. As you get older, your ability to think with more flexibility reduces. Meanwhile your crystal intelligence, or your ability to recall old things that you’ve done increases. Thus when new technology, like phones, comes out, it’s easy for younger people to pick up and learn. At the same time, an older person who’s familiar with a task will likely be able to do it better than a younger person who is familiar with the same task and has done it for the same amount of time. They don’t necessarily grow less smart. They become less intellectually flexible.

It seems Gen Z is extremely tech smart, and “street smart” from the internet; they know everything you think they don’t. They are very wise for their ages when you get them one on one, and have a conversation with them. They also don’t care or follow the rules of old systems, so it’s hard to be their teachers unless you get on their own level. As a Millennial/Gen X cusp (1982) I have a lot of faith in these new kids sometimes known as “crystal children”, they do not see color, and don’t put up with inequality, so it means great things for humanity; IF they can learn to speak right and turn off the slang at inappropriate times in order to get their insightful messages out. ✨

Look, maybe 10-20% of us use slang. Most of us will only use acronyms such as lol, ttyl, and many others in texting and chat rooms, and some when appropriate, such as HAGS (have a great summer) at the end of the year for yearbooks. The around 10-20% who use slang only use it when in contact with another teen around their age, and wouldn’t say something like “bruh moment” to a teacher. We follow rules and old systems when necessary, and we aren’t going to send an email to our teachers that reads: HAI MISS HEMINE I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD GET AN EXTENSION ON MY PROJECT CUZ I WAS ON IG ALL DAY LOL SO CAN I HAVE AN EXTENSION. Thank you for your comment on our generation, since it was mostly positive, but please remember that a stereotype is always focused on the most vocal.

My social teacher in grade 8 had an Instagram page where he posted photography(he was also a photography teacher) that was relevant to our classes everyday. He'd have us analyse the picture and make observations to start the class and get us into that days topic. He was my, and many others', favourite teacher, though I think that may also be due to the fact that instead of treating us as students or lower than himself, he treated us like actual people, which, for some reason, a lot of teachers don't do. He also didn't try to put on some facade to make himself seem overly official and like someone who should be respected. He had fun in class, being honest, while still teaching us the curriculum in an interesting and engaging way, and, through that, everybody actually had a lot more respect for him than if he had put up some facade. Also, in our literacy class(basically, depending on your reading level and comprehension, you were split into different classrooms for one period to work on different things), he took the group with the highest literacy level, so we didn't actually work on literacy. Instead, he tasked us to get into small groups and for the semester our task was to create the plan for a business with a triple bottom line. Most groups, including mine, went through the process of designing a product and a campaign and working out what we would need to go through with it, but some groups actually made a real business.

I’ve only had 2 teachers I would call great, although a good deal of it might come from them teaching high level classes and as such having no reason to look down on their students. Both of them held the classes to rigorous standards while also encouraging the students and were fully willing to admit to their mistakes. Both of them had general outlines for their lessons but were adaptable to the point where they would shift around the order of lessons for every class as they thought fit to best help the class understand the material. Note however that I say this from a very biased perspective because they both taught subjects I enjoyed and I had them both for multiple years over. That and the fact that they stood behind me in my desire to take a class I hadn’t taken the prerequisites for but wanted to take and that they felt I was capable of handling definitely makes my view of them more favorable.

I can only talk to my friends through the internet. They all live in completely different states than I do, except for one who l lives near LA, and a few of them live in Canada! I'm home-schooled, as I am thirteen, and I take online courses through an online school, adding on to the time I spend online everyday. However, I still find the time to read, and learn new things outside of school. In fact I'm currently learning Russian, Spanish, studying many different diseases, sicknesses, different medical terminology, Police codes, and more all online. I've been told many times that I should go outside and play more with the friends I have, but as I said before none of them live in my town. Not to mention I'm told that I need to get up, and learn something. I can't even begin to tell you how absolutely annoying it is to not even have the chance to explain what I'm doing, or how even if I do I'm told it's too hard for me because I'm young. It's constantly a matter of either "You can't do it." and "I don't care." I get no encouragement to do such things my people other than my family, which is technically my friends. In fact, I'm quite sure they're the ones who pushed me to learn such things. I don't mean to flex, I promise. I just simply want to tell people that Gen Z isn't all about memes, although I will admit I have nearly 2,000 in stock, we can learn complex things just as well as anyone else can. We aren't just browsing the internet for pointless reasons, we have goals and dreams just like you. The bottom line is, just because I'm on my phone doesn't mean that I'm playing games. I have many different things to learn on my own, and it doesn't help when you pull me down for my efforts. I appreciate help, but it's heartbreaking to hear you tell me I can't do it just because I'm young.

Hey, since you study diseases I thought I should mention this because it's severely under researched. If you haven't already (and tbh I doubt you have because nobody knows about it) you should try to research or study an autoimmune disease called chronic fatigue syndrome (or cfs - also called myalgic encephalomyalitis or m.e). It comes across as just long term tiredness/ fatigue at a first glance, but there is so much more actually going on than just that. I have this and so do a good few people in my family. It affects millions worldwide I believe but not even doctors properly understand it. It's explained as an inflammation of the brain and spinal chord but plenty of doctors are taught that it is psychological which is awful because it is untrue and that leads to people with this illness being incorrectly diagnosed and treated. It is most common in adults but can and does also occur in children and teenagers. The prognosis for people who have this is unknown. It could last years, decades or months, every person with this is different. For me personally it took me almost a full year to be diagnosed because there is such little knowledge of it out there. Anyway sorry for the rant but I thought it was worth mentioning seeing as you are researching illnesses and diseases

This video just made me so mad. I'm 20 years old, you can have an actual conversation with me. I'm sure many younger Gen Z people feel the same way. If we can understand you, then it can work both ways. Gen Z isn't a language that needs to be deciphered, and you as a millennial doesn't make you some magic rosetta stone that can translate between the young and the old. We are all alive and willing to talk to each other, but because so many Gen Z people are still so young (7 years old and they're already being judged), please try to talk to the older people of this generation before forming opinions. 12-year-olds in middle school are going to change so much in a few years. And of course we spend so much time on screens, our parents don't let us go outside without supervision and so much of school and homework is digital.

And if they're 17 then they're absolutely not between generations. Everyone born after 1995 is gen Z. As of 2019, the youngest age of millennials is 25 and the oldest age of gen Z is 24. All these idiots saying "I'm not 7 years old like the video" don't get it. Generations are terrible at defining themselves. And generations don't get defined until they enter the workforce. Nobody was calling me a millennial when I was 7 years old because baby boomers didn't have to accomodate 7-year-olds in the workplace. You don't know how a person or a generation is going to turn out when they're still 7 years old. The term millennial didn't exist until I was in my early to mid 20s which, as it turns out, is when a generation enters the work force and becomes defined by public perception. Generations are a way for OTHER generations to describe yours, not for yours to describe itself. A word to all the 7 year olds, your generation doesn't have a name yet because you're still a baby and nobody knows how you're going to be yet when your development finishes around age 20-25. Until a generation has a name it just temporarily inherits the name of the generation before it. If the 7 year olds don't turn out remarkably different than gen Z then a new generation name is not warranted.
