@@victormaniaci2104 Yeah - take a long trip in heavy rain, have a super foggy visor and you don't need no peeling no more. I'm from Germany and let me tell you shit doesn't improve north of 100mph - with impacts on the neck that is, visors just fly shut anyways and I've never been quite stupid enough to do those speeds in the rain or with an open-face. Sometimes you hit a little patch of rain when going higher speeds though and that really hurts. A friend of mine once hit a fly or a bee or something on his naked neck going about 230km/h (~140mph). He got a nice little, bloody bruise to show for it the following couple of weeks.

What's funny is all the haters that say it's so fast from not having body panels but at this point body panels would literally help you run a 7 faster, shows how much the internet experts know about aerodynamics and weight aerodynamics are super important once you get over a hundred miles an hour in the quarter mile probably even sooner

@l8rn3rds
@l8rn3rds 6 жыл бұрын
honestly all he needs is window panels, roof, and a formula 1-style front wing to deflect wind off of the wheels and that frame rail and he'll be golden. maybe a suuuper mild rear wing to counteract the front wing and keep weight on the rear tires. thats like 3 days of fab work and plexi work
@l8rn3rds
@l8rn3rds 6 жыл бұрын
Nerdy, Retro, Gaming - a wing wouldn't do anything for traction off the line because he won't be going fast enough for aero to matter in the 60 foot but if he puts a wing on the front he'll need something to put more down force on the back wheels so he doesn't spin his tires at the top end. Like one of those drag wings that lay flat but extend the length where the air passing over drops back to the ground. If he puts one off the back of the roof it wouldn't add much drag but it would keep air from dropping in front of the chute
@katieadams5860
@katieadams5860 6 жыл бұрын
The problem with adding panels is that they would have to redo the entire setup, they would have to relocate the turbos, maybe the roll cage and the frame of the car was already hacked off too when they bought it and it didn't come with any body panels
@l8rn3rds
@l8rn3rds 6 жыл бұрын

I never comment on videos. Like legit not once in about 3 years. But these are the kinds of videos I love. And I just need to show respect when it’s due. Extremely entertaining, funny, filled with personality, but more importantly, I love learning, like legit mind blowing stuff about aero. I’ve always known and learn to appreciate body design from what I’ve personally gone out to learn about aero, but leeroy was a hell of a good teacher 😂 Keep it up, and I hope to see more content where we can learn something👌🏽

Drag has relatively little to do with how the wind hits your car but more so to do with how it leaves your car. The bigger and stronger the area of low air density behind the car, the more drag you create. You can have the most aerodynamic front end in the world, but if the rear is as flat as the back end of a transit van, you'll have massive drag.
@ericjohnson8482

Yeah, form drag is a bitch. You can see all the low pressure areas in that smoke.
@WhatnotSoforth
@WhatnotSoforth 5 жыл бұрын
Yup, that's why they picked up drag when they did the cardboard nose, it just let the air go over that much easier to make an even bigger bubble in the rear! They just need to close off the cockpit, especially the for roof, and add some fairing coming down over the rear bars and it would cut down drag immensely. And hey, their parachute might even deploy on time!

Well. Yes and no. This car has a lot of “holes” which create turbulence. Even with the car in its current shape, if it was one solid enclosed space it would do much better. Imagine if you seran wrapped the whole car. Next offender would exposed wheels. They create their own boundary layer and move about twice as much air as their physical size. Then the shape would be next

My Transit van is a 3,2 meter (10,5ft) high box... Fuel consumption is 1,3 Liter per 10km in 90 to 110km/h and it accelerates pretty ok up to 70km/h but after that it is slow.

You should test a Ground Effect car in that wind tunnel. Also, you should really consider using wheel covers and a front wing on Leroy. And really, just working to improve Leroy's aerodynamics in general.

I’m not saying Ferrari’s aren’t beautiful. I’m saying that quote was taken out of the context of formula 1. Jim Hall and Colin chapmen proved otherwise. Both took victory after victory using smaller less powerful motors. Aero allowed the use of the long tooth Cosworth DFV V-8 from the 60s to 80s in multiple competitive teams and chassis across the grid.

Guess you slept thru the part where the wind tunnel guy said Cleetus is using about 1/2 his horsepower just to overcome wind resistance and would need 3,000 hp to do what he wants. Aerodynamics AND horsepower=better. Guess some people just can't get away from that junkyard refugee look.

I think if you panel the bottom flat with the defuser you could lower your drag/and increase your downforce. I believe that 7° is the most rake you can get down there before the air detaches. (Could be wrong)

I think that the lower door panels and roof in combination with some small panels on the side of the wind shield that can deflect air away from entering the cabin would make a huge difference. Then it would act less like a parachute. Another thing that you didn't test was putting panels on the back of the car. Just putting panels between all the bars in the back (with a hatch so you still can access the stuff ofc) would mean that the air will leave the car more smoothly.
