📺 VIDEO DESCRIPTION- In this video I started out in a funk, then while scrolling social media and watching a random group of strangers having fun I realized we are all faking it. We fake our happiness to show other people around us that we have our life in order and we are happy when in all actuality we are faking it. Most of us aren't even aware what true happiness feels like. I bring up a few examples and we talk about this topic while we boondocks camp in the American Southwest Desert of Arizona. We cook with cast iron over the campfire and make beef liver and a special delicious recipe I learned which includes A&W Rooter and golden potatoes. Hang out with me tonight while we live full time in a slide in pickup truck camper.

Larry we love your show. Jesus is the way to true joy. An internal joy that I can't even explain. And you are right, material things mean nothing. Save up for the things you want and you will enjoy it more and appreciate it. We sold our home a year and a half ago and moved into a fifth wheel and absolutely love it. We have a truck camper for weekends and vacations. Things dont make you happy. But boy My husbamd and I love our life and God. I did it without Him and have no desire to do anything without Him ever again. Im going to pray for you. Be thankful and appreciative with the small things, and you will be happy with anything else that comes your way. I can really tell you appreciate the gifts from your followers. It is so cool!

Thank you for sharing a part of your life with us. It feels good to know that we aren’t alone in how we feel. There are certain KZfaq channels, and yours is one of them, that really give others a boost in others’ daily lives. So be please remember that your channel, for how long you want to keep doing it, has a purpose for others. Very heartfelt video this week. I wish more people saw how their actions affect others. I don't particularly agree with the term "fake," though. I'm typically aware of my moods and forewarn my coworkers. My mother agreed with you, though--we watch your videos as a family! 🤣 I think you can rest easy knowing you're never the only one who feels these frustrations. I don’t think it’s fake, a lot of people are genuinely happy and at peace. It’s all about balance - family, spiritual health, physical health, work, play, building things, friendship, challenges (some people call them problems) - we have ruts but when these are out of balance life can be miserable

Wow Larry, thanks for your honesty! Same boat here, lived single most of my life,tried marriage, didn’t work out. Tried a girlfriend, even worse and realized I was only happy by myself with my puppies! 😎 I was diagnosed with Leukemia a few weeks back but I’ve got it on the run towards remission so it’s all good. I’m almost 79 and have an entirely new perspective on my mortality and life in general! 😎 Enjoy life and look after your health! ❤ Btw… we had a Long Haired Chihuahua when I was a teenager named Tippy but was only about a 3rd the size of Mason. lol

I think you should call it “Campfire talks with Larry”. Love the stories and personal views of the world you have. I have to agree Brother, it’s hard to be nice to people that aren’t nice back or don’t care at all about anyone but themselves. The world has become a cold place it seems. But then every once in awhile you run into people who are experiencing the same thing and it makes you feel better.

I know exactly what you mean about more and more people these days. I'm a woman in her 60's, and I'll hold the door for people and not even get any acknowledgement whatsoever, or let someone go ahead of me, no thanks for a little bit of kindness of whatever. It's sad really. But then there are so many good and sweet people out there that it makes up for it and gives you hope, you know? 😊 We can only be responsible for our own actions and keep smiling. Most people will respond to a genuine smile, so I'll keep on smiling. It sure feels better than a frown, so turn than frown upside down! Lol. Love you and your doggie and your videos are great! Keep it up, and it's refreshing to hear your down to earth stories and feelings and philosophies on life. I appreciate it!

This is an amazing video. Raw honesty is becoming a lost thing. One of the points you made about people being surprised when you said how you honestly felt stuck with me. When I ask someone how they are I am prepared for a conversation. I think more folks should care. Love watching the outdoors by the way.. A goal I am working towards being out in more for myself. I feel the same way as you. I am surrounded by the Fakers. As you have Mason, I have Bailey. My dog is my camping partner. I worked my whole life nonstop. 17-38 US Army. 38 to 60 worked nonstop and was not happy just surviving. At 60, I had enough. The last 2 yrs have been awesome. Life is short, and we have no time for the bs projected by others. I enjoy your content. Hi Mason.

Larry, thank you. I'm starting up my camping channel this year. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time. I've been struggling with depression for a long time as well. I'm 30 years old. I really needed this video today. I think this was the push i needed to start making the moves i want and to start putting myself and happiness first. I use to joke with my husband (his names Larry too) you could cook a cat turd in bacon grease and it would taste good. LOL but now I can say the same for liver. I think you got a case of the winter blues! Everyone is looking for happiness and it's different for each and every being! I hope you find yours! I love your openness and willingness to share your experiences. Everyone's journey is their own, but it's ok to ask for help along the way. Being open to help, being honest in our feelings, and genuinely caring for and about others all contribute to our long term happiness. I wish more people recognized that. I also love the 'smile' Mason had when he was sitting on your lap in the sunshine. He's a happy dog in that moment.

You are SO onto something here. I spoke to a bank teller recently, who told me that through her work she has seen the majority of society completely, financially leveraged and couldn't write a check for $50 the day before payday. That doesn't stop them from driving $100k white SUV's, having toys in the driveway, and credit cards max-ed.

Thank you for sharing. My husband and I are in our 60's and we share the same feelings as you. No one is nice anymore. We thought about hitting the road next year when my husband retires get a van or SUV selling our house and just live. You are not alone and now we know we aren't either. We live in a cold hearted world. We have a neighbor that is always causing problems to the point we end up having to call the police on him. All we want to do is live in peace, our house is old but it's home, for now. Thank you again for sharing this video about your life. God bless you and give you a long and healthy life🙏🏻💞🙏🏻

I love watching your videos! I sold my house in 2020 and bought a 16x32 shed. My son and daughter-in-law finished out the inside for me. I love it and was one of the best decisions I ever made. Keep doing what you do because we all love watching. God Bless!

Wow! This video really hit home with me. I’m going through such a tough time and life changing things and everything you said on your video is true, so very true. I was hoping KZfaq would help my situation but it hasn’t. I think my channel just isn’t good enough. It so hard for me because I’m an Empath and can really feel all the negativity from people so deeply. At least your getting better and your KZfaq channel has really picked up. I think you need someone to help you like Kenny Of All Trades did for you. I’m so very glad your happier and I’ll keep working on me Have a great week and thank you for being so honest. First of all, I thought that chapel was gorgeous! I would love to get married there! Second of all, KZfaq Was the hardest thing for me to learn in my entire life! I know it seems dumb to say this, but there is so much to it! You just gotta keep plugging away and making videos! Trust me the first 20 or 30 videos of mine are horrible! in fact, the first handful I ended up deleting because I don’t ever want anybody to see those again 🤣 But I think it’s because KZfaq was so hard is why it changed my life so much for the better! It really just took a lot of me looking in on myself to figure out why people didn’t wanna watch my videos. Eventually, I learned that I just needed to open up And be authentic. The hardest part was trying to figure out who the authentic me really was! There, I just saved you three years at least 🤣 Seriously though I hope that helps. Thank you so much for watching. 🙏

You know, I feel the same way, sometimes about people not caring about what goes on in my life. It’s really hard to find a good friend that will truly listen! I don’t like to talk about religion in my videos, and I definitely don’t like to push it on people but for me, it helped when I finally gave in and started believing and a higher power. 🤷 I hope whatever it is that you’re going through gets easier. Brother it's what most people don't want to hear but you are 100% right. The two words I've said more than any others in response to inquiries in my 56 years on this planet was.........IM FINE. It took me 50+ years to realize, it's OK to not be fine, and it's even more ok to make yourself vulnerable and let people know.......I'm not ok right now. That doesn't have to translate to someone being in a life or death situation as far as the gravity of them not being ok.

You’re describing things perfectly. I’m currently trying to cut back on debt and payments and move towards a more simple and happier life moving forward. Trying to stop focusing on things and focus more on mental health and experiences. This became one of my favorite videos of yours because of the serious and important conversation. It’s very hard to be “real” today, there’s a lot of fake people who seem to be trying to make their lives something it’s not. Your very correct about society, no manners or decency in public. When’s the last time you saw a man hold a door open for a woman and if they do there’s no acknowledgement or thank you. My wife has had doors close in her face because the person just lets the door close behind them without concern there might be someone behind. Our great grandparents would be appalled.

I agree 100% with what you're saying. I am about to retire at age 60, mostly because of a lot of serious health issues. My husband died 7 years ago and I used the life insurance to buy a very small 120 year old house out right for myself and my kids. As long as the taxes get paid, we will always have a roof over our heads. And working was no longer making me happy and the job stress was making my health worse. I decided I deserved to be happy, so I quit after 22 years at the same job. Feel like I'm in free fall off a cliff, and a little concerned about money, but we live a small life and don't need a lot. We spend more on our dogs than we do on ourselves, as it should be. 😂 The taste of freedom is amazing. Tell Mason my little chihuahua says hi. And sending you a virtual hug, you're truly a good guy.

Hey Larry,thank you so much for your lovely videos,they really are uplifting and cheer me up when life is tough. Life can be hard and folk are definitely turning more rude,entitled and mean but I believe it is because they are unhappy in their lives. I have felt at times since I moved to the States from England down and depressed as there have been numerous people where I live,complete strangers out at just the grocery store,come up and threaten me and insult me just because I have an English accent,I was even attacked back in 2021 in Kroger carpark because a woman hated the English so she had heard me talking at the checkout, followed me to my car and punched me in the face. Folk can be cruel but I know now that they are the problem not me. As long as I have my three dogs,I am happy!❤ Look forward to your next video and love to little Mason,he is such a character!❤🐾

I appreciate you sharing, so honestly. Sharing your life experiences with others is a courageous and compassionte thing to do. It opens doors for others to share their experiences, which helps us help each other. Some folks are ok skimming the top and staying shallow in sharing, other types of folks prefer the deeper end of conversation. I find the deeper conversations...more thought provoking... and more likely to teach me more. Keep doing you wholeheartedly.

You seem very well adjusted to me, you get your camp all set up lights and all have festive fires, hike and explore, cook your own interesting dinners, love your little dog and take great care of him.people that are alone and lonely and depressed just hibernate and sleep. I'm glad that you are finding yourself and discovering what makes you happy. I'm retired, but used to work over 60 hours/week in my work life. Despite being retired for 6 years I still get job offers. Recently, I was offered a 12 hour a week job for an unbelievable salary. My old self thought, "Wow I should take this." However, the thought gave me a sense of dread, and so I thought about it. I realized that I was very happy with my retired life. It is simple, but I'm a simple person. The extra money would not objectively make me any happier, and I treasure that I now have control over my life and schedule. Instead of following the cash I followed my heart and I am so happy that I did. Keep the faith and follow your heart, it will lead you where you need to go.

OMG…you sound just like me! I live in north central Florida and same thing here! People drive like nuts and everyone seems mad..especially at the grocery store. They block the isles, never smile and don’t make eye contact! I’ve lived here most of my life and the last few years here have been awful! I wish I could just take my pup, Willie and go camping like YOU and Mason. (My Willie weighs 7 lbs and looks just like Mason!) You are truly living the GOOD LIFE!😁✌️

Thank you Larry, and Mason for yet again another great video. I know and can relate to so much of what you shared. I grew up not worrying about money, so I didn't know how to truly appreciate what it can do for me. I know all too well about living a fake life. When my mother died unexpectedly in 1989, I was only 18 and had just graduated high school. That sent me into, well a life I wish on nobody else until June of 2017. I then spent an intense 2 years of my life finding..me! I've had so much in my life, that I can honestly say I was miserable. I am now the proud owner of a 2015 Jeep Patriot that I use to tow my little DIY 4x8 teardrop camper. I can also put everything I own these days in my vehicle, camper, and my rooftop cargo box. And I've never been happier! I have a very small group of people in my life that I've had the privilege to call family for the last 30 years. I think I might start rambling my thoughts now, so on that note..your videos bring happiness to so many. Thank you...Can't wait to try the root beer potatoes! And yes dryer lint is awesome for startng fires. My family collects it for me, along with all the paper towel/toilet paper rolls. The can also be used in so many ways as fire starters as well. Plus let's in the land fills polluting the planet.

Thanks for making this video, it means allot to come across actually. I'm 26 and holy moly it's been a ride. Moved to Colorado about 4 years ago, met a girl, even bought a truck with money I didn't have, Went back and forth and got into campers. The final time I went back I had a 94 Lance slide in that I was living out of, went back to her, felt great FOR A COUPLE months, sold it, then I remembered why we didn't work together. Just like you said, I had everything I ever thought I ever wanted and the most Mayberry life anyone could ever ask for, but I still wasn't happy. Finally stopped chasing her, moved back into the back of my truck, and I started learning Whitewater kayaking, was mountain bike riding and working at the same time. Doing THAT gave me everything I've ever wanted since a child and I'm going to chase it as long as I can. I'm in Tucson right now fixing up a side entry,I hope I see ya around!

I think there are more unhappy people than we realize. They want to make others as unhappy as they are though they have no clue that they're unhappy. Philippines 4:11 speaks about being content. Things, money, fame, prestige and on and on will not make you happy. You have worked hard to find happiness within yourself, in the simple things, in unexpected joys that will come your way when you set your heart and your mind right. With the world now it is a full time job! But even if you're the only person being nice you may never know how your actions helps someone else, and the added bonus is you can face yourself in the mirror knowing you did right, you took the high road and you didn't let people, things or circumstances get you down to their level. I am still learning this and as you stated we will for the rest of our life. You are a good person Larry, it comes through in your videos, just those little actions and of course how you treat that precious pup. His contentment shows as well, it wouldn't be so if you were not a good person. I can see why you two return to that area- beautiful and quiet. Mason has to water every plant, the desert is dry! 😉 He is such a joy to your viewers, as you are as well. Stay safe and GOD bless

Haven't had liver and onions forever, mix with mashed potatoes and gravy. Now I want some.😅 For some serious concerns, I'm temporarily disabled with terminal cancer, 62 yrs. old, a retired union carpenter. Serious illness is out of this world expensive, lost home, possessions, bank, and 401K. My faith in Father God is all I have, you fill sad for me but, without God, I wouldn't be receiving healing in my body, I wouldn't have hope, I have everything I need, including His peace. Zero worries, I give God all my problems. With peace my emotions are healed, my life is sorted if you will. Point Being - with God He'll turn everything for our good, no matter what life throws at us. I couldn't be in a better place. I fill you.😊

I've had a similar journey based on different circumstances. I see tipping points as necessary even though painful. Thanks for sharing some of your journey and letting us get to know you better. I have noticed that despite all the disappointments life brings, things have always turned out better than i ever could have imagined. It's a tough process though.

I've learned not to compare with others who on the outside look like they have it all because having it all comes at a cost somewhere down the line. I have lots of friends with nice houses, toys but that's not me at all and they can have that. Your way of life is nice and simple and there's nothing wrong with that , enjoy those moments of peace and quiet because to many out there that is something they will never have.

Whereas I think it’s cool to slice the wood to make strands for easier lighting of campfires, the easiest method I’ve found is to swipe a cotton ball into petroleum jelly and light it while it’s placed under some wood. It has a decent burn time which gives the right amount of time for dry wood to ignite.

Great video. Thank you for sharing how much chasing the material things in life had you numb and cut off from your feelings. I’ve had it even blind me to my sense of right and wrong. I’d tell myself it was “survival of the fittest” so oh well. I love watching Mason run! He is mostly chill until he gets to run like a dog and then he is Super Dog like you said.

The first time we spent winter in Mexico in our van people who knew us thought we were crazy all that bandito crap swirling around . Here we are years later in our van next to the Panana Canal this winter. Those that thought we were going to die have dropped away. None of what they think has changed what we have done. I watch you because you do you and I don’t do what you do, not because I’m not enjoying my life. Maybe when we get home I’ll get into axes and campfires! Maybe not. I hope that helps because I’d like you to enjoy your life as much as I usually enjoy mine. And my spare part still hasn’t arrived from the US! Grr…

I don't know if I'm brave enough for liver and onions, I'll have to take your word for it. Looked gross going in the pan, but once it was all cooked it didn't look too bad at all. You're definitely not alone in your observations and how you feel about the things you mentioned here. I'm in a very similar boat. I hold doors, say "hello" and smile on trails, try to talk to the checkout person, with little response. Been divorced. I retired three years ago and travel mostly part time until this coming Spring then it's full time. I faked happiness too. Single for about 15 years, rarely dated then I met a walking partner that turned into a little more after a year of just walking. But I miss being on my own so much, so I have decisions to make. We are in charge of our own happiness. There's a LOT of mental illness out there to include racism here in the dirty south. It's sad really and I'm only one person so I'm disconnecting from it all and I'll be AZ bound soon. All of your vids resonate with me in particular this one. Be safe, see you down the road perhaps.

I’ve felt the same as you , I bought things to make my self happy ! I changed my life by changing my mindset ! I would get a different vehicle every year or two , now truck i drive is 23 years old and rough but paid for and gets me around ! It’s not things that drive me anymore ! My children and my dogs make me so happy now !

Mason is so precious! Thank you for sharing your story. I read a good book several years ago titled “ No more faking fine”. My happiness and contentment came from developing a relationship with Jesus. Studying my Bible everyday keeps me fed and focused! I stuff the cardboard rolls from paper towels and T.p. with lint from the clothes dryer. It extends the burn time while the wood ignites.

Our son has that same French press for his backpacking forays. You are inspiring with all of your outdoor cooking! You aren't wrong about a lot of people faking it. That is some of why so many people are mean or unfriendly. Often I just think, wow they must really hate their life or they must be having a bad time today. Thinking about that lets me shrug off the bad vibes and not let it bring me down to their level of grumpiness. Dogs are so good at having joy in the moment, we can learn a lot from them if we just pay attention. Best wishes for true happiness.

I have been down the mental health journey also brother. The end finally came when I accepted Jesus in my life. Now when people do things that used to upset me I can feel peace and love for that person and myself because that’s the way God would want it. He wants us all tomorrow have salvation and the Holy Spirit. Then we can help others feel the awesome feeling of the nine fruits of the Spirit. Have you ever read the Bible and studied it everyday and prayed. It will set you free. God Bless you and your channel and I hope you will take the time to think about what I have said. ❤

Hi Larry. I'm new to the channel and I really can't remember how I got here. Maybe thru Kenny of All Trades? I wanted to tell you I understand completely what you're saying. I think some folks need to run around, making a lot of noise and acquiring the latest "thing," trying to find happiness, pretending they are happy. I really believe it comes from within. When I decided/realized I had enough, enough stuff, enough time to myself, enough room to do what I want to do, I am happy. (It's a whole lot less room than I thought I needed.) We are living in uncertain times, no matter what one's political opinions are. I think that alone makes folks a bit cranky. I think we all need to reflect on our lives and situations occasionally and this is your time. Kindness also goes a long way and I wish more folks would embrace it. As for sleeping away an afternoon? Why not? Every so often, I think we all need a nap to relax and sort of reset. Hopefully, soon your outlook will brighten again. Perhaps by the time the desert blooms.

When we start working on ourselves!! It’s amazing how we can turn things around. And become happy. I used to always take on stuff and fix things for others. Came from a strong line of women. Larry, its ok to get in a funk. Its normal for all to get like this. I think when we all say "I'm good", we dont want others to know we're not good to avoid a conversation. Used to watch Hobo Shoestring, a train rider, and he used cotton balls and vaseline to start a fire. Carried it in a backpack as part of his regular gear. He passed away s few weeks ago. Your channel popped up and i like your style. New subscriber.

You know what I started realizing that, even when you’re in a good mood, you go through waves of feeling good and bad I’ve just learned to realize that, and it seems like the bad moods go away a lot faster. Before when I would start getting into a bad mood, it would sort of spiral out of control And I would be mad at myself for feeling that way, which just made things worse. I hope you find happiness soon to get out of your funk! I know winters can be hard! Thank you for watching. 🙏

The trick with KZfaq is to just keep plugging away! I wanted to quit probably four or five hundred times 🤣 but luckily I had Kenny from Kenny Of All Trades to talk to, and we would call each other on the phone and talk each other off the ledge of wanting to quit our channels 🤣 KZfaq knows how to make you feel worthless at times.
